Yes, for example at the ROH the boxes have very side-on views, so you can miss a lot of the stage. I don't think I would ever choose to sit in one, but I guess some people like them. I've found several times when I've booked a relatively expensive seat with a full view that I've had to be moved into one of them, and it's a real letdown at times.

RDB Dancers in London - radio feature 3 Jan

Did anyone go past Leicester Square today and see if there was anything going at tkts? There wasn't online when I looked this morning, but the list on there isn't always reliable, I find. -

I'd been thinking I might get tickets for a second performance, too, since it's such a rare visit, but there's no sign of anything appearing on tkts yet, and the bottom price have of course sold out, so I guess that's a no -

And I realised it might have helped if Sadler's had actually sent out the Spring booking programme this year, as well. I waited for ages before I decided it wasn't going to arrive, by which time I'd missed out on the chance to book tickets for Guillem's final performances. -
What are the hot tickets for early 2015?
alison replied to BristolBillyBob's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Did anyone give you some transport vouchers as well, B3?! I suspect London on a Sunday is probably out for you, given the rail engineering works which tend to occur? And if the last coach back to Bristol is as early as the last Bristol-London one that won't help much, either. Yes, Royal Danes, certainly - if you can make it in time. You could of course catch several RB productions in a cinema near you, but then that won't help you use up your theatre tokens. ENB's programme at Sadler's could be interesting if you like contemporary ballet. Streetcar definitely worth a look. Think my brain's gone to sleep - will try and give it some thought tomorrow. -
The Royal Ballet: Don Quixote, 2014

I didn't see Naghdi : I've only seen Hayward and Hinkis in the run. That reminds me to say that I really liked Nehemiah Kish as Espada last night - thought he owned the role - and Hirano as Gamache, which was unexpected. (Which in turn reminds me that I thought I'd seen a reference to Stepanek performing Gamache, but he's not noticeably down on the casting on the website to do it. Was I mistaken?)- 291 replies

That's got me wondering: can Mercedes actually see where she's going, or do the flounces get in the way, in which case I guess she's dependent on the matadors positioning the cups accurately. I still miss the old days when the men used to stick daggers into the floor, although I can appreciate why that's no longer popular.- 291 replies

That would be Amour. I still don't know what she's doing in a tutu - hard to give the impression of being Cupid in a tutu, I think.- 291 replies

And I've just had an email through from Sadler's headed "Great prices, exceptional dance at Sadler’s Wells" which totally manages not to mention them, either. Grrrr. -

Actually, I'm wondering whether it's partly because the venue is no longer (barring the Trocks and the odd dance school graduation performances) perceived as a ballet theatre. When you think that Johan Kobborg and co. managed to sell out (I think) the Queen Elizabeth Hall for several similar performances maybe a decade ago, and how well the RDB's last visit to Sadler's went, I'm not sure what has happened in the meantime. Having ENB and the RB performing at the same time probably doesn't help, of course. -
RDB group in London: some of the dancers

Sounds marvellous, either way! -
That's very good news for Itziar. At least Tatiana is a role which, historically, ballerinas have gone on dancing until late in their careers, so fingers crossed that we will get to see Lauren in it sooner or later.

What on earth is it doing on Page 2?! The only things on before it are Edward Scissorhands and The Snowman, and I suspect the latter has probably finished its run. Why on earth bother hosting this gem of a company if you're not going to publicise it? FWIW, I actually bought my ticket pretty much the day booking opened -

It's an idea, Bruce, but I think the whole concept of the Links forum is to keep it so that only the Links people can contribute to it, so it may not work. And come to think of it, if you're like me and end up not visiting the Links for some days you'll be too late to go and seek out a hard copy of the paper if you want to!

Our marvellous links people don't put up links to sites which aren't publicly accessible, although we do encourage posters to flag up anything of significant interest which they find in The Times and elsewhere, and on this occasion someone did - see the conversation here: http://www.balletcoforum.com/index.php?/topic/8525-articles-behind-a-paywall/ I'll go and start the thread I threatened to now ...- 291 replies

alison replied to zxDaveM's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
On the other hand, the POB has, I think, well over twice the number of dancers that the Royal does (250?), and at times is running two separate ballet performances in its two theatres, which makes their situation a bit different. I suppose it depends how far down the ranks you are going to cast: in the Royal, I'm not sure whether there are any First Soloists I'd cast as Kitri - I'm not quite sure I see Choe in the role.- 291 replies

Yes, but the comparison was between Soares/Nunez and Muntagirov/Takada - there's a much more noticeable size difference with the latter two than with the former.- 291 replies
