  1. I always loved that line. Wonder why? Come to think of it, I've always loved the whole darn song.
  2. I think I saw Susan Hogard as Odette and Trinidad Sevillano as Odile in a performance in the mid-80s. Not to mention ENB splitting the roles a few times with near-debutante dancers back around the turn of the century. All it requires is a Siegfried capable of making you believe that *he* sees the same woman in both cases - that's what's important. It's a bit like Emperor's New Clothes syndrome
  3. And just think of all those lockers, shopping trolleys and so on which will have to be changed - you know, the ones which accept the current pound coins or anything else of the same shape in order to release them. And all the charities which will be able to sell lots of new keyrings with pound-coin-shaped tokens which fit the new slots ...
  4. No, the ones we're talking about are the ones directly behind them.
  5. When I was in the Stalls Circle standing before Christmas I remember there was a lot of shushing going on from the (?)regulars.
  6. Now I look more closely, it turns out that both are repeats
  7. More personal taste: I think I may love the Cinderella music more than the R&J!
  8. I've always thought the ROH timings do include an allowance for curtain calls? OTOH, what is shown at the door and on the website can be two different things.
  9. Ooh yes, probably my favourite of all - at least, when danced with full understanding and commitment to the characters.
  10. SSSHHH ... don't mention Croydon Travelodge. It's supposed to be a Big Secret
  11. Erm, how long do Haydn symphonies last? Hardly an evening's work, is it?
  12. On a more positive note, Roger Federer contracted GF in 2008. It doesn't appear to have done him much harm
  13. They're like bar stools with footrests, and they're available (sometimes) after the others because they are behind the wheelchair spaces, so the box office only knows how many to release once they know how many wheelchairs are booked for that performance.
  14. Let's try and keep this thread on safe teaching/training practices or the lack thereof, shall we?
  15. There are a couple of programmes about Springsteen on BBC4 this coming Friday, too.
  16. Am I right in thinking that glandular fever was what Lauren Cuthbertson originally had, and then it turned into some very nasty post-viral thing? I think I'm right in saying that if you try to rush back before you've properly recovered you can end up suffering for much longer, so do bear that in mind. But obviously medical professionals will know more. What I *do* know is that it can vary greatly in severity and length of effect: some people barely notice it, while others suffer much worse. Sorry not to be more upbeat, but I hope your DD has a light case.
  17. By the way, if I may digress here: those of you who've been to the Barbican recently, are the limits to what you can take in *quite* as draconian as the website indicates? I was struggling to see how I could get even my baby laptop in there, and since it's in the City I can imagine a lot of business people who have to take laptops home on a regular basis, and wouldn't be able to leave them in the cloakroom for security reasons.
  18. At the risk of sounding like Bruce Wall , bless you, DQF! Thanks a million. But what on earth were they doing putting them on so late in the evening? I'd been refreshing the page all day - unless my cache had got stuck, or something. If they'd done it a few hours earlier, I could have exchanged the Beauty tickets I've just returned
  19. That was what I thought, too - and indeed I saw some review or something (the Michelle Potter in today's links?) saying that Lamb was representing Bell.
  20. Funny the way the Encore screenings get scattered across the diary these days. I had my eye on one tomorrow afternoon, but still don't think I'll make it ...
  21. I too have been surprised at the amount of shopping some people bring in with them, usually in those posh, rigid cardboard bags. I usually bring things in in canvas carriers so that they can at least be folded up/away - and don't rustle.
