  1. Thanks for the replies . Dd is auditioning in group 1 which by the sounds of it is very full already. Anyone else auditioning on Sunday?
  2. My dd is auditioning on the 17th for the CBA. It will be her second attempt! She has improved and matured so much since last year, I will be keeping my fingers crossed. Just wondered if any of you might know how many places there could be on offer? Many thanks
  3. Wow your panto rehearsals have started early! My dd is about to start her 3rd year of panto in Hertfordshire and her rehearsals don't start until the end of November. However her company make it crystal clear from the start that they will not allow time out for exams, auditions or lessons. The panto is a massive commitment which dd loves but does ultimately take over our life for 6 weeks ! I suppose it depends on what the company said to you when you signed up. Obviously CBA is a wonderful opportunity too with many children desperate to gain a place. Maybe it's best to speak to Tring to see if you can miss two classes and then also the panto to miss two of theirs. Some panto rehearsals will be more important than others such as the tech or producers run. Alternatively if it is the later rehearsals that clash could you ask your dd's opposite number in a different team to stand in for her. They generally split rehearsals into team ones closer to opening night. I know it's not ideal! Good luck with your decision.
  4. Think you may have been sitting next to me Pictures! My dd was the only with ginger hair I think! I have a 21 month old son who my neighbour kindly babysat for. I had 2 uninterrupted blissful hours of watching all the lovely dancing. Makes a change.
  5. Just wanted to say what a fantastic week my DD has had at Harpenden. I was really glad to get an opportunity watch the intermediate ballet and thought the jazz class was brilliant. Thank you Hfbrew and team for a suberb summer course. We have already pencilled in the 18th August 2014!
  6. My DD has been bugging me to check the EYB website. She will be very disappointed they are not returning to Aylesbury next year. I agree Taxiballet that Milton Keynes would make a great venue.
  7. I wanted to ask if Arts Ed - Chiswick is LJB's permanent address? I remember last year some discussion on it moving from north London to Acton. Also I see they are auditioning again in September. Does anyone have an idea on how limited spaces are.
  8. My dd also auditioned last November but didn't get in. We've decided to wait until next autumn to audition again. I am not sure that she has progressed enough yet to make a difference. Especially if there are only a few places available. She has also started a ballet TPA course on a Saturday and is really enjoying that at the moment.
  9. My dd is in group B and loving the boarding. I think she will be begging to audition next year for a full time place.!! Sorry your dd has had a negative experience straceydor.
  10. My dd is boarding for the first time. So happy to be there and you are spot on about the buzz. They will all have a great week.
  11. Wendover Woods and Ashridge forest are both great for picnics. Sometimes Ashridge has organised activities too. St Albans is only 40 mins away and has great shops , a cathedral and lovely park to explore.
  12. After reading some old threads I gather NYB is a lot harder to get into than EYB. I wonder if anyone who has done it before could help answer some questions please. How many people audition and how many places are there? My dd is 10 , are there more places for older or younger dancers? Do most of the successful candidates go to vocational school or do some come from regular dance schools. My dd has an audition on the 3rd so any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. My dd is just 10 with really thick curly hair. I struggle to put it in a bun myself! She is boarding at Tring for the Easter dance course so we are in the process of trying to teach her to do her own bun. I was hoping there would be adults on hand to help with this? It will be hard enough being away from home for the first time let alone worrying if your hair is ok!
  14. Thanks for your comments hfbrew. However the Tring Park Associates scheme is also by audition. Doesn't that imply a certain standard needs to be met? Rather than a mixed ability group in a local dance class where any one can join.
  15. Is anyone's dc's currently attending Tring Associates on a Saturday? I realise that it is different from the CBA but I wondered what your thoughts were on the standard of ballet teaching? Is the standard of ability in the classes high? Is it useful as extra ballet training or would doing extra classes at your own dance school be pretty much the same thing.
  16. What a shame! I have also emailed the school for feedback but haven't received a response yet. I appreciate that they are super busy. My dd was gutted when I told her . Again it was her first "no" too. However she asked immediately when could she audition again! So some feedback would help.
  17. Sorry Balletmum20 forgot to respond! Sorry our letter didn't mention training. I too would appreciate some feedback as it would be useful to see if it is worth auditioning again in the future. I fully understand with over 75 candidates it is easier to send out standard letters!
  18. Congratulations Frogsmum, your dd must be delighted. I wasn't aware there was a group 3 on the day. Do you mind me asking what age your dd is?
  19. Mine was also, lots of applications but very few places, all the best for the future. I was expecting something about flexibility! But no mention .
  20. Unfortunately it's a no for us too. Interesting what has been said about the number of places available. Would they really take the time to audition children if there were no actual space in their age/ability group ? Not looking forward to telling DD when she gets home! But all audition experience is useful , so hope she can get her head around that!
  21. Funny that you mentioned the toilets Happymum! I wondered why with such beautiful new studios the nearest toilets were a walk over muddy grass to reach ! Or maybe we missed them? Wouldn't it make sense to have them in the same building ? Sorry if this is slightly off thread.
  22. I agree I don't think doing the splits was be all and end all! However when you are 9 and surrounded by others who can it is bound to knock your confidence. This is the first ballet audition apart from EYB (which was very different) my DD has done. Whatever the outcome she was glad to have taken part. My apologies if I have given the impression that I think the splits was the most important part of the audition! I really was just looking for some advice or reassurance on the subject.
  23. My DD also auditioned in group 1 today. She was still unable to do the splits and was conscious of the fact that the majority of the group were able to! However apart from that she loved the audition process and stayed onto join the Ballet Taster Day group. She has had a great day. Good luck to all of you that auditioned.
  24. I just wanted to mention what a great service you provide. You responded to my email super fast and my request was delivered so promptly ,the packaging is lovely too ! Also always nice to get a discount. Thanks
  25. My dd did the Easter course last year and loved it. She does tap , jazz and ballet but there were plenty there who hadn't tapped before. She was in the youngest group and at least 4 girls didn't have tap shoes. Saying that the tap was not particularly challenging though! Probably to cater for all the different abilities. She wants to board this year as I felt she was too young last time. I am glad I got to see the girls dorms at the recent open day. It makes feel happier about her boarding for the week.
