  1. Got our audition date and booked our hotel. Just waiting for the final details now! Will anyone else be there on the 19th November? Fingers crossed for all those auditioning.
  2. Thank you from me too. This forum has been invaluable!
  3. In addition to cold calls I am now recieving cold texts particulaly about PPI. The beauty of mobile phones is that you can keep these numbers as a contact with "Spam - do not answer" in the title. It saves having to waste time saying NO!!!!!
  4. PE is very much a recogised option for Physiotherapy. One of my daughters dance teachers is a physio and she said that the students who did PE A level or L3 extended diploma had a better starting point than she did with Biology A level as the PE focused more on the human body whereas the A level biology covered all biology and the human element was very small. I suppose it depends which examining board you choose. I know AQA do it, but it focuses on the body and disease. Hope this helps
  5. Hi Amandalou My daughter has just recieved her audition date for Elmhurst, 19th November, though she will be auditioning for yr 10. Haven't recieved the date for Hammond yet. She is desperate to go to either school but I think the sensible was to look at it is to prepare well and try your best, with the realisation that there are not enough places for all the talented dancers and the likelihood is that they may not get a place. The stress on children can be immense, but a realistic and sensible attitude to the process is key. It will be an amazing experience, no matter what the result!
  6. I think there was another video on You Tube where the boss responded to her resignation. I have found the link! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ukGrwL4ky4 Edited cos I attached wrong clip!
  7. I sent in passport photo with hair down. All pose photos were sent with immaculate bun so they can see the next and shoulder line from those. ~Does anyone know when they will send the audition dates out? Just thinking about time off work and hotel booking etc!
  8. What a lovely video clip. I thoroughly enjoyed it and shall pass it on to my DD. Thanks for sharing
  9. I only include retired elderly people in my shopping issue, but also people of any age who have the opportunity to go supermarket shopping during the week and leave it to the weekend when I'm rushing around like a mad woman! I'm definitely not ageist!
  10. Got to agree with you there Ribbons, though I have to say I don't like Krispy Kreme and prefer the old fashioned ring doughnuts from the fun fair.
  11. I saw this article and realised I had been to both number 3 and 9. Has anyone got any odd days out to beat these listed? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-24080506
  12. I've found that cutting them on an angle and then setting light to the ends usually works better then cutting them straight.
  13. I wonder if all those who applied for the June auditions and had their forms entered for 2014-15 auditions will have to complete a new application form. I hope not!
  14. Is it better to darn than to have the suede patches? I have never tried to darn dd's pointe shoes. What are the advantages?
  15. best wishes for his speedy recovery Julie.
  16. I've never met a woman yet that dreams of a new vacuum cleaner! My pet hates are People who shop on a weekend when they have all week to do it and make it harder for me as a full time working mum to run round the supermarket. I have threatened my retired parents on this topic, so they now always shop on a Thursday morning. People who spit. It's repulsive Swearing - shows lack of imagination and lingustic skills Overt public displays of affection - get a room
  17. When I was young my parents regularly drove past a sign that said "Caution, Heavy Plant Crossing". Nothing unusual about that, except that it was erected right next to a large garden centre!
  18. My daughter competes regularly with a number of other students from her dance school and thoroughly enjoys it. They all have a great cameraderie and are happy for each other when they win. They meet and make friends with lots of children from other dance school and most importantly they get to perform on stage. I have seen some beautifully technical dancers who are the most boring to watch as they have no performance skills. Ballet requires drama and performance as well as technique therefore the chance to perform and hone those skills are vital. Yes there are the overbearing mums who think that their dc is the best, and there are also the times that you wonder at the adjudicators decision, but that is a fact of life and competition is a great opportunity to teach your child to be gracious in winning and losing, which is a vital life skill. Edited for spelling mistakes
  19. I have the exact same problem Pups Mum and have purchased the short sleeve range in Asda which my daughter is allowed. Although they are a little baggy, they seem to fit better than others and wash beautifully for the bargain price of £5.00 for 2. School uniform shopping is stressful for those of us with petite daughters with long legs!
  20. I have always used superglue and it works a treat!
  21. I wouldn't worry about one lower exam mark, and you have to remember that the higher the grade, the more difficult the exam. Keep dancing and enjoy it.
  22. My dd does pilates with her dance school. They do one session a week and have recently started using pilates rings to strengthen leg muscles. Weird contraption that looks more designed for torture than for exercise, mind you dd says it is torture the next day. DD's dance teacher says that pilates strengthens core muscles and works on balance as well as giving dancers a good understanding of their body.
  23. My DD is at Yorkshire assembly this week dtadmin. I hope, like me you are looking forward to the performance this afternoon.
  24. Exactly the same in our house. Luckily dd has June birthday so it doesn't seem too far away.
  25. When you are happy to plan your birthday party for 3 weeks after your birthday to accommodate dancing shows and classes.
