  1. Thanks Taximom. The last information I had from the website was that it would open at the palladium on 25th June 2013. Obviously like everything else in the world - things change and get moved about! Primrose thanks for your good wishes, I am sure that there will be a number of professional child actors who will audition but it's worth a shot for the West End! got to be in it to win it.
  2. Sam Mendes is directing a musical version of Charlie & the Chocolate factory which will open at the Paladium ion June 2013. The character of Veruca Salt requires an excellent ballet dancer under 4ft 8in. My dd applied and has been accepted for audition and I was just wondering if anyone else had applied for the role.
  3. My dd did Yorkshire Assembly summer school as a boarder which is reasonably priced and with exceptional teaching in both ballet and contemporary. The classes were grouped in ability based on their last ballet grade taken which meant that pretty much the children in class were all at a similar level. Boarding is in dorms, with rooms of 4 for the under 14's and rooms of 2 for the 14 & over and the venue is the beautiful Queen Margarets school at Escrick. My dd has been two years running and has found each year to be of great benefit, which has been backed up by very positive comments from her ballet teacher at her local dance school. It is really good value for money and a great experience for those who don't want to be away from home for too long as it is 4 days.
  4. I don't envy you having to make such difficult decisions, though it may well help do discuss with your dd what she actually wants to do. If the competitions and stage work are of most interest then it might be advisable to find a good local dance school who enagages in comps and perhaps performs an annual end of year show, which will give her an insight. If then she still wants to go to a vocational school afterwards then maybe have a go at auditioning then. It might just appease both dd and dh. I am extremely lucky having a fantastic local dance school which encourages competitions but also having Northern Ballet and York scholars on my doorstep for the more classical training. Whatever you decide I wish you the best of luck!
  5. It's Yorkshire Assembly for my dd again this year. Ballet focused but also contemporary and jazz classes.
  6. Hi emsloves2dance - dd is doing Assembley summer school. She went last year and really enjoyed it. Xx
  7. By the way. Is anyone doing York summer school?
  8. Just got a letter today and my dd has a yes. She is absolutely thrilled. Sorry to hear your dd didn't get in this time Smallbythesea but my dd was turned down for Northern Ballet twice. Keep auditioning.
  9. First time posting on this site. My DD also auditioned at York for the first time and is awaiting results. Nerve racking to say the least!
