  1. Hi Lilac The qualification is the Trinity diploma in professional dance. If you mean A levels when you say academic lessons then no, they do not offer A levels. Year groups tend to vary to be honest. The year groups are split into two in the first year and then into jazz focus and classical focus in the second & third year. Last year the graduate employment was 100% before the final term finished. This includes both the jazz & classical course students going on to employment within their chosen focus.
  2. Pretty certain I'm right in saying that the student you are talking about here S&P was actually a graduate of Kate Simmons but had previously been trained by Mr & Mrs Kidd before Moorlands opened & before she went to Kate Simmons
  3. Hi Taxi4ballet. They are completely different organisations. Joffrey Ballet Company is in Chicago and has a pre pro vocational ballet school linked to them. Joffrey NY is the remnants of the old Robert Joffrey school. The Chicago summer intensive is of a far greater standard than NY. Hope that helps.
  4. IDTA teachers cannot copy syllabus notes for others RosinaLovesDance. That is why nobody has responded to your request for the same on Ballet Talk!
  5. It's about a 15min walk from Piccadilly and 5mins from Oxford Road
  6. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/171452365110 Hopefully this link to eBay will work so you can see a pic of what you are looking for Katymac. Think they are part of the 'Under Control' range.
  7. Hi Katymac At my DD school the girls actually wear the Primark ones you are talking about OVER black tights with a crop top for jazz. If this is what you DD teacher is thinking of then maybe buying them from elsewhere isn't an option. The Primark ones are actually the heavy lycra, support pants with the fold down waist. You would never know they are actually knickers when you see them in class. They look like dance wear.

    IDTA Exams

Hi L' Danza. I think you might be confused with the rule that states that no candidate can enter two (of the same) branch grades in one session. Meaning that a child could only do Grade I ballet and not Grade I AND Grade 2 ballet at the same session for example. Does that make sense? I'm sleepy Ha Ha! The teacher cannot play the music and whoever does play the music has to be hidden from view of the candidates! Hope that helps.
  9. If it is Medlock House they are staying in then all the flats have fridge/freezers in the kitchens
  10. Nowadays 4 out of 200 would be good! DD went to a Royal Carribean audition a few years ago with over 800 dancers there. lntially they danced in groups of 40. 3 of them were left at the end!
  11. If the course results in the awarding of the Trinity qualification then ALL second and third years have to appear in the production. All second years have to be identified and the work should be distributed fairly equally across the year group. The same applies to the third year and they are also formally assessed within, and marked on, the performance.
  12. Most of the Northern Ballet School grads do go into commercial or cabaret employment. However I think this is because people don't rate it highly as a classical school and so the school doesn't attract a lot of classical talent. The training for excellent classical study is there though. There are current NBS students in Northern Ballet Theatre, Matthew Bourne, New Zealand Ballet (soloist), Adjkun Ballet, Cinncinatti Ballet and until recently BRB. There are also two second year female students that have passed the RAD Solo Seal this year and very many students (both jazz and classical focus) pass the RAD Advanced 2 each year. All of the current third year, with the exception of three girls, have already found well regarded employment to go into. Thats usually the same case each year. IMO it is a fantastic school, producing versatile, strong & highly disciplined dancers which is reflected in the employment statistics.
  13. So true PdeQ and I think it is often thought it is easy for a classically trained dancer to 'just cross over'. I know 3 students from one of the so regarded top ballet schools who have been to two cruise auditions this month. All of them were eliminated after the first round. Hundreds & hundreds of dancers attend these open call auditions which often last all day and result in a handful of dancers being hired. A little off piste, but not all of the cruise ships require dancers to do duties.
  14. Could also ask where she trained. SandP's suggestion of asking to watch a class is a great idea.
  15. Hi hfbrew. Every current 3rd year at Northern Ballet School except three girls have already secured employment. Several of them have had to leave recently to start contracts (but will still receive the Trinity qualification). Two of them have classical contracts and the rest commercial, including the better known cruise ship companies.
  16. Thank you Jane. Obviously just a snapshot list as many students I Know in employment are not on it.
  17. Hi Jane Are you able to copy a link to that alumni list please as I'd like a look but am unable to find it. Thank you Jane.
  18. Thanks Pas du Quatre. Obviously more up on IT than me!
  19. ..........and of course my link doesnt work! LOL. The website is: www.dancers.invisionzone.com
  20. Hi Dancermum. Have you looked at the US equivilant of this site? It is also very informative. I ( think ) I've managed to copy a link here! You would probably find the 'Cross Talk' forum an interesting place to start. chttp://dancers.invisionzone.com/index.php?s=48c013ca5c97e0abe20385bde356d6fb&showforum=1 I personally think you're right to explore every avenue. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
  21. Hi Snaredy. Sorry I don't know anyone starting in September. Just wanted to say though that several years ago my DD started & didn't know anyone either. By the end of the first lesson she had made good friends! It's a lovely, happy environment
  22. I was responding to BD19 stating that all institutions all over the world, admit students based on the same criteria including "body shape". To me body shape includes height.
