  1. Good luck with it all. She sounds to be so close to a place.... Hope it works out for you all.
  2. Hi vonRothbart I was at Manchester on 23rd and to us the 13.15 group they hinted there may be no Y8 places. I'm sorry this is not the news your GD will want to hear but I think it is fair you know the score. I am sorry in a way they are taking them to seconds if no places but clearly your gd is on the cusp and if a place became available. ... I guess it could happen not for assess out reasons. ... I hope she gets what she deserves soon. Did she go for Elmhurst?
  3. Many congratulations bitwornout!! And to your dd as well.
  4. Hi Straceydor, I think all children should be receiving corrections in class. If she is not either 1) she isn't realising they are being made or 2) they are not happening. Either way you should be able to discuss with the teacher. I would be very unhappy if there were never opportunities to contact the teacher about such issues - you are a paying customer! The class is certainly bigger than the ones my dc is in. Good luck!
  5. Hi I would agree combination of face/technique/difficulty. I think difficulty is not worth extra unless the first two are in place. I agree with lifeafterballet- my dc watches sections prior to see what they are looking for.
  6. Hi I use www.danceandleisurewear.co.uk for modern shoes. They are helpful on size queries. I find the Bloch staff, while very nice, don't always know the practical stuff about sizing. But if you have a local dance shop it would be a fairly basic stock?...
  7. Hi Lemongirl, Bloch do some with an elastic panel either in the front or both sides of the shoe. I think the ones with the front elastic are better if the feet are slim. But I think these may be in process of discontinuation. The code on the packet for these is pure jazz s0461L. My daughter is also a size1/2 and she has this style now and had smaller. The bloch sizing is a bit odd. I can't see the size in her current pair. I have a size 2 ish to grow into and they are sized M4.5. Hope that helps- the side elastic ones are easy to find.
  8. Hi mvobe I would definitely say don't worry about the extras, mds is judged on dance alone. That has been reflected in our experience of who has got in. It is such a worrying time so take that one off your list.....
  9. Legseleven Oh you just made my day....... I feel like a tad less like an anxious paranoid dance Mum now! I used to be sane before dc started dancing..... I bloomin well hope my dc will become a high earning dancer (ha ha) at some stage so I can be rewarded for years of worry by gifts of trips to health spas etc to undo the damage to complexion caused by stress........
  10. Hi pas de chat, Great (well not) we don't seem to have lost a letter then.... My expectations are low but poor dc rushes in from school every day asking about it. Hideous. Thanks
  11. Hi all, I'm so sorry for all the no WL letters today. We are expecting one but not yet as only went last week. There is life after nos but it is very hard for a while. . We went to Tring on 13 th for y8. No letter yet. Has anyone heard from that day yet? Chins up xx
  12. Thank you Gazelle. Will try and get there..
  13. Hi twoballerinas0004 My dc has done Hammond and loved it. I think they can board from 8? There is no selection and covers all types of dance so may be moving away from exactly what you want. ... we found it useful as a fun way to find out whether vocational school would be an option dc would enjoy. ....
  14. Hi Gazelle, Thanks for that. That sounds fab. I'm glad your daughter finds it constructive - that's what I was getting at really.
  15. Hi there, Dc is thinking about applying to the Intermediate Associates. We don't know anyone who goes. Can anyone give any advice about class sizes, teaching quality etc? It looks great on the website. ... Thanks very much!
  16. Hi Angel, Can't get PM to work. Its a no here.... hope u get a yes!
  17. Hi Suzyszoo We have been twice to Elmhurst Both times groups were 15-20. For y7 it was boys in a mixed group, assume older boys may be same. Letters 1-2 weeks last year. Went a week ago and still waiting for letter. .. The people at Elmhurst are lovely so enjoy it and good luck!
  18. Hi all, I always get my dc to warm up prior to audition s. I have found the warm ups in the auditions to be variable prior to splits and some I consider inadequate. You can't be too careful! I encourage dc to worry about warming them self up and not watching others. The competitive warm up is to be discouraged. ...
  19. Hi pas de chat, Yes Angel has pm me and I did notice her daughter- divine I thought! Yes mine is pretty small even compared to other ballet dancers I guess..... and yes of course it is always mum's fault!!!
  20. Pose ton leve- let me try again. First they hop on keg 1 then move forward into a hopping arabesque on leg 2 then move forward into a hop on leg 1 again. Etc. Clear as mud? to be honest I usually lurk on here. Find all the chat reassuring- I just wanted to reassure u pas de chat that others also noticed them! My daughter was in a pale pink camisole leo. Not sure of her number. Was 18 the tall-ish girl in royal blue? She was beautiful. ...
  21. Pose ton leve on the diagonal. Its a kind of arabesque hoppy thing. (Spot the non dancing mum!!)
  22. Hi pas de chat, my dc was in the audition with the HK girls as well. I didn't see them warming up and interestingly they did not stand out to me during the bit we watched. (Apart from the diddy one who you couldn't help noticing!) I was only aware of their existence after when my dc told me of their astounding feats!! I say to my dc that all you can do is control what you can control. In the absence of any knowledge about these girls background I just have to admire their tricks and hope they didn't have something that my dc has!!! This sort of thing can be very disconcerting I agree - I guess it is one of the many things our dc have to learn to deal with if they want to progress in this dancing world....
  23. Thank you all, will keep you informed of course - you have all been very generous with info. I suspect the most likely outcome is that my child will not get offered a place at any but didn't want to apply somewhere I wasn't happy with... As a non dancer the whole career bit seems so tenuous and while we will support our child in their dancing aspirations, because they work so hard at it and live/ sleep it etc, we don't want to put them into something where the academics may be compromised for a dancing education that may not get them to the ballet career they desperately desire. (And the ballet is becoming more important over all the other types of dance they do it seems) And of course there are no career guarantees wherever you go!!!! It's bamboozling tbh..
