  1. If you want a spin off ballet, it must surely be Larisch in Exile. Banished from the court she took up with an opera singer who became persona non grata because of his relationship with her. They had a son. The relationship ended. In reply to an article in she placed in a newspaper she found herself in the USA married to an abusive husband. She died in Nazi Germany the year I was born. Her son died in 1977, the year before Mayerling was performed at The Royal Opera House. What a woman!
  2. One of those weird things re casting. The Empress on Friday danced her own daughter on Saturday
  3. Lauretta Summerscales gave an interview to the Daily Telegraph recently about the need to seek new roles. Added to this at the end was a rehash of the alleged troubles at ENB. This was nothing to do with the interview she had given. She tweeted or used Facebook to point this out.
  4. Bussell danced Agon and Apollo with Eddie J. Shellman of Dance Theatre Harlem in the early 1990’s at The Royal Opera House. This was a time when Dance Theatre Harlem dancers guested with the Royal Ballet. I was privileged to see the great Virginia Johnson dance Giselle at that time!!
  5. Yes it was and she only came in as a replacement. Why she had never been cast in the role before raised a few questions. Then again her whole career at the Royal ballet raised many questions
  6. Martin Harvey did dance Onegin with Mara Galeazzi. His Rudolph was with Tamara Rojo. The other women in the cast made interesting reading. Belinda Hatley as Larisch Victoria Hewitt as Stephanie Leanne Cope as Louise Christina Arestis as The Empress Lauren Cuthbertson as Mitzi. What a cast. I had the privilege of talking to Leanne Cope about this. All that home grown talent made for a very happy cast.
  7. Was there again this evening. Ignite wonderful and Delia Mathews superb as River
  8. The one thing for certain is that we were not short changed on quality. Both ballets are quite superb and should be considered as “keepers”
  9. Surely it was Hirano who replaced the injured Soares on those occasions .
  10. The important thing of course is that you leave New Street Station by the south entrance and it is just a two minute walk to the Hippodrome. What’s going on in the rest of Birmingham hardly matters. t
  11. She has really come into her own in the last couple of years. Her Aurora performances this last season were absolutely superb. It was a great shame that she and Yasuo Atsuji did not have the opportunity to dance Concerto at the Royal Opera House during the MacMillan celebrations. I felt that they were as good as any of the RB couples dancing this role in recent years.
