  1. It's a topic from last year but I hope I can get some more information. My DS enjoyed the Access All Areas workshop on Tring so much that he asked for more. I'm thinking about him joining the kickstart programme for boys in September. I can't call the school till tomorrow afternoon so I hope that someone can tell me more about it. What time does it start and for how many hours does it last? How old are the boys? How many in a group etc. Thank you.
  2. Oh, my DD was in group D as well. But because my son was in group A I came with my husband to watch group D just for about 10 minutes. I think she was the smallest girl, wearing pale lavender leotard. Not good at jazz at all, never done a single jazz class in her life so was feeling bad that she couldn't keep up with the rest of the group. She is a classical ballet girl :-)
  3. So how did you meet? I'm sorry I didn't meet anybody from the forum :-( need to find out how to recognise balletcoers before next ballet event.
  4. And we spent the night in Premier inn next to the Travel Lodge :-) Children had a fab day today but I didn't manage to meet any balletcoers :-( I went for a 3 hours long walk to the windmill and back. I'm more tired then my children. Hope all yours DDs and DSs had a fantastic day. Enjoy the show.
  5. Well, I'll be there, hope to meet other balletcoers :-) Children are very excited.
  6. I'm sorry to change the subject, but how did you received the report? I was looking forward to receive my DD's report and I received lots of paperwork from RBS today, but not the report. Do we get it from our teacher in the class or is it send by post? We got the next year acceptance letter months ago. I am supriced that we need to send all the forms and a photograph etc once again ( every year I guess). Does every child in every centre receive a report every year?
  7. My DD, 9 is also in group Mars D and my DS, 7 is in group A ( Venus?). They are excited though my DS is a bit nervous as this is his first experience with ballet outside his everyday ballet class. The main thing is that ( looking at the names on the list) he is not the only boy in his group. I'm looking forward to it, hope to meet all balletcoers there :-)
  8. Well, I don't agree with the previous posts about worming up and stretching. It's not always a show off. My DD always does it ( well all 3 times she ever auditioned) because for us it was always almost 2 (or more) hours in a car and early start of the day. And I know that she would like to do her best (jump high, try splits etc) so first of all it's to avoid any injury. And second- it gets her ready, maybe slightly increases her chances to do better? So why not? Isn't it what professionals always do before performance? So yes, maybe some do it to show off but most will be just getting ready.

    Running

Well, dancing is dancing and jogging/running is someting different. If she was so puffed it looks like regular jogging is a very good idea to improve her cardio and lung capacity.

    Running

If it's just jogging couple of times a week I wouldn't worry about building muscles. It would rather be a good cardio exercise. It's only not advisable if there are any back or knees (or ather joints) problems. But it's very important to remember to stretch after - especially hamstrings.
  11. I agree! My DD is very slim. But she does eat healthy, sometimes even more then I think she should. She does exercise ( ballet + Pilates) a lot but I think that she is just like her dad - stays very slim whatever she does or eats. She (or me?) does get comments that she is too thin and should build muscles etc. But she has strong and long muscles. So it's not always an eating disorder or a bad mother.
  12. Still waiting for reply :-( Is anyone going to Sussex SS? Or has been there? My DD decided to be a residential student and I'm happy ( as she's not v confident) but also worried. Is this not a good Ss? As nobody else is going? Is Francesizzi still a balletco member? Her DD was there last year and I hoped I could chat with her. Oh, I'm a bit worried. First time for my DD and for me.
  13. My DD is only 9, so not a big choice of summer schools. She's going to Sussex SS and I'd love to hear from somebody who's DD is going or has been last year.
  14. My DD is doing the Sussex SS, second week, and is booked as a "day plus" student. But now she started to think about staying there as residential student. She is not sure yet and generally not very confident being away without parents. Does anyone know if majority of students (aged 9-10) stay for a whole week or are they mainly just "day" students? Is somebody's DD going there ( second week, grade 3/4). I called the school today and ask if we can visit our DD once or twice (DD's idea) but they're not very happy about it (it's understandable).
  15. Well, I think I'm addicted to this forum! It will be nice to meet next time. We all should have some kind of balletco badge and wear it on all sorts of workshop and auditions :-)
  16. Thank you Shashee, the hotel was ok. I did look at all parents wandering who is a balletcoer :-) what a shame that we parents coudn't see ROH, but I enjoyed the tour of the school ( I was in Sylvia's group).
  17. Just once again back to A levels. Today at RBS I have been told that they offer A levels in English, French, maths, music and arts and also if a student has a talent in any other subject they will arrange a teacher to come over even for one child.
  18. My DD had a lovely day today at RBS. And as Sylvia H. said we (children and parents) will see each other often in next 2 years :-)
  19. Also Lying on back with legs and arms extended - to see if the back is not too arched. So called "banana back" is a "bad" thing. Its good to keep tummy and bottom "in" and to stay focused, smile and enjoy it.
  20. At RBS auditions they like to see frogs (froggy legs) done lying on back or tummy ( not sitting).
  21. Hi Shashee and Twoballerinas, it's nice to know that you'll be there. I didn't know that there are workshops just for year 4, I've only heard about workshops for all JAs or for Year 6. I was so worried about us being late that we are traveling to London on Wednesday and staying in a hotel.
  22. I wonder who else is going? This will be first RBS workshop for my DD (apart from "be a JA for a day). I'm sure children will have fun and I can't wait to see the school though it will be many years before we start to think about upper school :-) Edited to add the date of the workshop: Thu 11th April
  23. I've just booked places for my DD and for my DS. This will be first ever workshop for my DS, hope he won't be the only boy in his group. He is only 7 and just started RAD grade 1.
  24. Balletmum20, my DD auditioned last year and she was 8 as well. It all looks like a ballet class. Yes, flexibility is important but no, your DD doesn't need to be able to do all 3 splits perfectly. And every school looks for slightly different things as my DD was accepted at RBS and Elmhurst but not Tring. If you have Amy questions please pm me. And Janet's link about auditioning procedures is about auditions to year 7 at vacational schools
