  1. Yes, I think you can still get a place just paying normal fees. But a lot of DC last year didn't get in simply because they had so many applications.
  2. I received the email today. Not sure how it is for other groups but level 1 needs to register at 9:45 on both days. On Wed classes are from 10:30 till 4:45. On Thursday warm up class starts at 10:10, then rehearsals. The show starts at 2pm and everything should finish by 5pm. Tickets for the show cost £5. We should receive an email with more information during this coming week.
  3. Hi Ribbons, we have the same problem (please look at the "YBSS audition" posts). I've contacted them and have been told that I should send all the forms and photographs and just write a cover letter to explain that I'm not sending a deposit as I can't afford the SS without the scholarship and am just applying for a place at the audition. I know they can also offer bursary or some kind of funding for those with low income but don't know any details. You may also just called them, the lady I spoke to was very helpful and friendly. How old is your DC? My DD is 10 and will be auditioning in London. Chances are slim as most places will go to vocational students and generally boys but my DD's teacher and my DD want to try anyway. Hope it helps.
  4. Ha ha! Yes, I agree! This is what they did in our local paper when they wrote about my DD. The article was sensible and said all about the JA weekends only etc but the title was about "getting a place at RBS!" And back to the problem: I think it's important to ask the child if he/she is happy to have his/her photo and full name in the paper. If the child agrees then I don't have a problem with it at all. I can't see what bad can come out if it (meaning that I don't think an article in a paper will have a major influence on somebody's plans/behaviour). And also plenty of times DC photos and names are on events programmes, posters, websites, and if they are going to be well known and famous (and they all hopefully will be !) then we should just get used to it I think. I do understand your point of view though and hope that you, your DC and the schools will find a resolution soon.
  5. Thank you all for the information. I suspected that it's mainly for vocational students and for boys but my DD's teacher says to go there anyway, even just for experience (as we will be auditioning for 2015 entry in autumn). I've sent you a pm Elliepops
  6. Is there anyone who knows/remembers something? I should send the forms soon, book a hotel etc and am still not sure.

    YBSS 2014

My DD would love to go to YBSS but it's a bit too expensive for us so we are thinking about applying for audition. Could someone tell me how many (ish) children auditioned last year in group 9-13 years old and how many did get a scholarship? I just wanted to find out what are the chances as I understand that the founding goes mainly to boys, doesn't it? My DD is only 10 but I guess there will be a lot of vocational students as it's up to 13 in this group? Just trying to decide if it's worth going to auditions as it's a whole day trip to London for us.
  8. I have an opposite example. Training with some definately non-dancers ( one architect and one driver) I ask them to relax their feet and they are assuring me their feet are completely relaxed when their heels are pushed out and toes up (flexed foot).
  9. Maybe she could go to Pilates classes? It's great for dancers, slow, done to your own breathing (so she will always notice if she needs a rest - she will constantly be focused on her body/mind). Then she could become a Pilates instructor and work with dancers? And then a physio? Good luck to her in whatever she chooses
  10. I also was worried when my DD went away for the first time last summer. She was the youngest child boarding, didn't know anybody etc but she had a fantastic time so this time I'm not worried at all! Great to hear about others positive experience. I'm sure your DD will be well looked after and have fun! My DD is excited about coming back from the show at midnight :-)
  11. My DD is going to Tring Easter course for the first time this year. Are other DC going? My DD is 10 and she doesn't know anybody there but isn't too worried about it. We were both very happy to find out yesterday that they decided not to do any tap lessons this year (sorry if somebody else was looking forward to it...) as my DD never tried tap before. Her first ever jazz shoes arrived yesterday, until now she used to do her modern class barefoot. My DD is very excited, she's already writing a list of things to pack.
  12. Thank you Pictures! We are the 2015 entry (if we are lucky) so good to know that someone on the forum keeps an eye on all the upcoming events. I'm not even sure where to look...
  13. Fingers crossed your DD will get an MA place Abitwornout! And enjoy having your DD at home.
  14. Hi Ebony, well done to your DD (and you!) for auditioning! Hope she enjoyed it! My DD didn't audition this year, so I can't answer your question, sorry. I think that if you don't get the letter by tomorrow you can simply call the school again and I'm sure they will help you. Fingers crossed for your DD.
  15. Great news Suzyszoo! Congratulations! And good luck to all the girls auditioning today! Have a lovely day at WL!
  16. My DD did it about 3 or 4 years ago in Abergavenny ( run by Angela ) and loved it! Yes, there is nothing on the Internet but I think that the standard was high and the show was very professional. Well done to your DD - great news about the scholarship.
  17. Thank you Firefly and welcome! May I ask how old was you DD when she did these classes? And big classes means about 25-30 with one teacher? Please PM me if you prefer.
  18. Going back to this old posts. Does anyone know more about the Wales cecchetti associate in Newport? How big are the classes, how long/what time and how expensive? Is it very hard to get a place?
  19. Up! Up! Just heard from RAD that they are still waiting for a couple more applications so I hope it's OK for me to advertise it again. I have been given a timetable - looks great: ballet technique class, contemporary technique class, ballet repertoire, creative work, street dance workshop. Only male teachers.
  20. Phew! I just had a call from RAD that my DD has got a place! She was first on the waiting list. DD is so excited!
  21. I've just heard from RAD that my DD is on the top of the waiting list for level 1 :-( Such a shame, and the closing date is not till 21st March! My DD will be so disappointed. Does anybody know if it's possible to get a place from the waiting list?
  22. My DS went to JA experience day couple of weeks ago. He also just turned 8 ( and he has an older sister who is a JA). There was no break in his 2 hours class but children could have a sip of water if they needed it. The teachers I know are very kind and polite towards children, no "shouting". I'm not sure if the amount of JA classes per year is very important. There was a year when a lot of Bristol girls were accepted to WL even though there are only 20 sessions a year. I think that they accept up to 16 children in every centre ( anyway it's 16 in Bath). About 2/3 girls and 1/3 boys ish. If I remember well it was about 12 girls for one place when my DD auditioned. She was accepted at 8 and she didn't struggle, she loves it. But every child is different so after the JA experience day you'll be able to see how will your child coup with a 2 hour lesson.
  23. Fantastic news Suzyszoo! Your DS must be very talented! Well done to him and good luck with finals.
