  1. Sorry but am I being naive here…. Does the above salary refer to Mr. O Hare? Should we be discussing his salary here?
  2. Yes I always ask them to check it’s okay in case I’ve messed it up!
  3. I really love this production of Giselle but I wouldn’t put other productions down because of it. I think Ballet should have a wide umbrella. I suppose I’m a bit of a “both and” person rather than an “either or” one.
  4. I don’t mind at all if people ask politely which they usually do “ Sorry to bother you but would you mind…..etc.
  5. I’m really annoyed about the March 21st performance being turned into another invited audience only event as it was a scheduled Magri/ Corrales performance which got blocked out in the Autumn although Cesar was unfit to dance then anyway. I think it’s particularly annoying to choose one of his performances for this as he’s been away so long so probably a whole load of people going who won’t care one way or the other who is dancing. Still if he is as exciting as he usually is he might gain a few more fans from that night who’ve never heard of him before!! Am trying to see if can rearrange things so can make the 7th but haven’t booked it yet in case I can’t
  6. Me too! It must be so difficult for them right in their prime years to have had to have so much time away from the stage with Covid adding to their woes!
  7. I always take it that although Albrecht may be trying to connect Giselle is not so easy to catch hold of so goes flying aloft!! But it has to be seen to be done without effort on Albrecht’s part for it truly to be effective.
  8. Regarding the Scarlett Swan Lake I like it except for the beginning, the ending, and perhaps just a little less of Benno though it’s good to have larger roles for the male dancers. I think it was his costume which seemed a bit out of place and don’t think he should actually have more dancing than Siegfried though seem to remember that this character was introduced in some Russian version because the senior Principal at the time who played Siegfried was no longer in his prime….not sure if this is correct!!
  9. I also think dancing on the same stage all the time must make a difference to the overall quality of performances. It’s difficult for Companies like ENB and Northern for example to compete with this but do amazingly well in the circumstances. The AD must make a huge difference in how long dancers want to remain with a Company so in this respect Mr. O Hare is doing very well. There’s always room for guest appearances of dancers from other Companies though …but maybe more like swaps …we get the occasional ( note the word occasional!) guests from other major Companies and the RB principals guest elsewhere too.
  10. Actually re reading my post it could be confusing! I meant yes definitely talk about Liams Swan Lake but not just about him!! Sim I wouldn’t have naturally thought Kevin would have much input into prices but a poster was asking this previously however if indirectly through his seasonal programming this is causing the Swan Lakes and Sleeping Beauty’s to almost out price many people in going then there could be an issue there but obviously not solely his.
  11. Please can we not go into a discussion about Liam Scarlett and just what you may like or dislike about his Swan Lake! Or perhaps why if Kevin O Hare does have any influence at all why the prices for the Swan Lake this season are just SO over the top!!
  12. Yes I agree am just fed up with not being able to see what’s going on ( though can’t see this Giselle this time around) It’s SO disrespectful to audiences and even Amateur Companies would not dream of doing this in my experience! Surely there must be some compromise here of somebody going up into the top of the House and seeing what actually CAN be seen from up there so the lighting is at least just bright enough for the action to be seen. Nobody’s suggesting Picadilly Circus!!
  13. It’s not my favourite lift in Giselle but I do like it if not made too obvious. My favourite lifts are the ones where Giselle is sort of lifted overhead almost on a diagonal from one side of stage to the other so sort of wafted along. Campbell and Hayward so memorable in their Giselle …they made time stand still. I’ve seen this before but think that tends to come more from special partnerships.
  14. I could watch Nureyev being interviewed by Fonteyn all day! In Makarova’s Swan Lake and Seymour’s SB I noticed how much more they use their heads than many modern dancers do.
  15. I do think the “hover lift” is highly romantic though if performed with enough sensitivity! Great piccies Dawnstar!
  16. Will be interested in anybody who managed to get to this afternoons matinee on what they thought of Sangeun Lee and Gareth Haw in main roles. Yes I’ve been more drawn to Arrieta in the last couple of years as he has such a lovely classical line will be interesting to see if he can now develop more characterisation in main roles.
  17. They are so amazing you can’t believe they are on their feet and imagine they are being conveyed by some weird under stage contraption!!
  18. Yes I think “if he should want it” is the key here!
  19. I think Gary Avis would be a great choice if he should want it. He seems to enjoy teaching and coaching so might be a little more ‘hands on’ as an AD.
  20. The clue to him pulling them off so well no doubt is in him saying “ I just love those sixes so much” I do hope ENB don’t leave it another 7 years before doing Giselle again!!
  21. Oh my goodness naughty Corrales! I had no idea he hadn’t actually agreed to put these in on the night!! The folly of Youth I suppose. But he always had that cheeky side you could see clearly when he won the Emerging Dancer award at the Palladium. But it’s right to prepare for things properly though or you can set yourself up for injury and unfortunately we keep missing Cesar in his prime years too due to injury I hope he has learned a little bit of wisdom now alongside the exuberant joys of Youth as we do SO want to see him dance. He has been sadly missed this year 😥 However I do think we need to see some full on dancing from Albrecht in Act 2 in some form. In some cases I’ve seen a lot of imploring Myrthe to relinquish from the dance but almost more imploring than dancing!! We should feel Albrecht has been through something …that he has touched Death…. but just saved from it by Giselle!
  22. Makarova’s “madness” was truly amazing still not seen anything like her since!! Evdokimova was so ethereal in the 2nd Act but a bit that way in real life too.
  23. Yes still catching up!! I imagine Cojocaru will be closest to Fonteyn in interpretation of the second Act as she had a very human quality too.
