  1. There’s a double performance of Manon on Feb 3rd which may affect quite a few members here. Anyone using Thameslink it means that whole week will be affected in terms of altered timetable as there will be half the number of trains as usual due to no overtime etc
  2. There was so much pent up emotion around just after Covid. I lost my first real mentor/ballet teacher in 2020 ( though not from Covid!) so would never be being taught by him any more😥 I got emotional in my first class back in the studio here in Brighton after doing a year of classes on zoom (involving three teachers) and then again in my first class back up in London with a much valued teacher up there. Joy and sorrow are so closely linked!
  3. Yes it seems the Wilis from this Romantic era were obviously far more vicious than I thought then as assumed Death was via Dance!! Though probably a horrible way to die in reality!!!
  4. My own main teacher was indebted to Margaret Craske he told us. I wonder if he knew Mary Skeaping as well.
  5. Sounds like a good idea but not sure it’s very realistic as there’s no room in Covent Garden for the whole Lower school and boarding facilities etc etc Also even if there was accommodation in Covent Garden area I think Richmond Park is a nicer environment than Covent Garden for the younger children.
  6. I remember I got quite emotional at my first performance back at ROH after Covid!!
  7. Indeed it can Buru. It can definitely make magical moments in time. But then I’ve always loved Giselle particularly and know the music so well now that if the sound is turned off on videos of dancers performing it I can supply the correct music …mostly lol! However I might be a bit flummoxed by this Skeaping version as it has the extra music in the second Act which I like but am less familiar with. Please ENB bring Giselle back in 2-3 years not 7 as last time!!
  8. I did see that November 21 performance of Giselle which I thought was really good though (if my memory serves me correctly) Cesar had not long been back from another injury so probably not at his absolute fittest ( like his brilliance in Coppelia) I thought his characterisation was fine though. Regarding the gala performance last night on the TV …..i saw these two ( Corrales/ Hayward) in R and J and it was a truly memorable performance must have been back in 2019 but I thought Cesar didn’t look fully fit in the gala performance from last night compared to his 2019 performance. Hayward as delightful as ever though. Yes just as I decided I wanted to see more of Akane she seemed to be absent through injury. I do wish both of these very different dancers can be back at their full strength very soon and injury free for as long as possible.
  9. Sorry my above post was in reply to Dave’s Post Thankyou Irmgard that’s interesting. I’m never really sure how much freedom dancers get when invited to dance with a Company but I would have thought unless a very last minute invitation that as a dancer you try to fit in with that Company’s version. I still enjoyed her in this role though I think sometimes when you attend performances for some reason something special just happens between yourself and a particular performance especially with ballets you may have seen many times. You are just particularly open to it all on that night. Obviously the performances of the dancers have to be on that top notch level but combined can just make a magical evening that you remember for a long time. When I was choosing my “top 5” Giselles” up thread it’s because those evenings had this particular magical quality as I know of course that many dancers are wonderful in this role often because it is one of their coveted roles to dance.
  10. It’s just that I’m sure one of her performances I saw was in this Production but can never quite trust my memory lol especially since Covid it seems to have added a few years onto past events!!
  11. Sorry just for clarity’s sake does “sadly Cojocaru did not embrace the Skeaping Production” mean that she didn’t actually appear in it or she wanted to change certain things within it?
  12. All mine were like your last one Dawnstar when taken with my phone so no longer bother with curtain calls from the Balcony!!!
  13. Akane is dancing NOW on BBC 4 RB gala!!
  14. Looks like it’s April 24th for live ( should be my first day back up in London ballet classes so if that goes to schedule can’t make that … the encore is on the Sunday 28th so should be able to make that in Brighton at our lovely Arts Cinema! Of course still don’t know if can make the March 7th Swan Lake with Corrales/ Magri but if can that will be the other performance!
  15. Yes Fonty that’s how I read it as well. Giselle appears to slow down his dancing so not at such a manic pace. She is there as a support.
  16. Thanks Jan guess I was being Naive then! Doesn’t look like a bad salary to me but of course only by comparison to other AD’s can it really be judged.
  17. Please don’t you three. I liked Cojocaru but what is that current expression : “ Recollections may vary!”
  18. Oh many thanks for that Dawnstar I hadn’t checked the cinema relays!!
  19. I think it must affect your nerves if you have had injuries. I only can appreciate this from attending classes after injury one of them serious. I became really fussy what the floor was like and find it difficult even now to dance on wooden (non purpose) floors usually over concrete. I much prefer properly sprung dance floors. Stephen McRae is to be hugely admired for managing to return to Performance after having such a catastrophic injury mid performance like that.
  20. Yes the focus was seeing Naghdi in one of these roles lol! Having just watched the Insight last night it seems rather remiss of me to mistake Bracewell for Ball lol!! So it’s Naghdi in Manon or Swan Lake …What do you think?!
  21. Yes it does seem an awful long time since the Georgian State Dance Company ( not the Ballet Company who are coming this summer!) came to U.K. I think I saw them at The Festival Hall last time. They have amazing singers as well. Great final piccies of Nutcracker!!
  22. Am seeing Kaneko and Hayward but having to weigh up whether to see Naghdi and Ball in Manon or Swan Lake as can’t afford both! Loved this Insight….. it’s quite a pressure for the dancers to put in more than one change so immediately and in front of an audience rather than studio situation!
