  1. Putting aside the provenance of this remark about Nuñez and Muntagirov, and on the evidence of regularly trawling all over for our daily Links, I will happily rush to the defence of Hanna Weibye as possibly the most cogent, erudite, and capable emerging writer on dance. (As to the remark, as a professional historian, I would be surprised if she made it up and its genesis may lie in the casting changes beaten to death elsewhere.)
  2. Almost as good a story as that of the Celtic team drawn from a radius of some 25 miles from Parkhead in Glasgow's East End that won the European Cup in Lisbon in May 1967, beating Inter Milan. In two years, manager Jock Stein had transformed a struggling team and, if I recall correctly, he had only brought in one new player. The cautionary bit for Leicester is that Celtic have not repeated the feat in the intervening 49 years! (Unlike BBB, I was unable to watch that Lisbon game on TV, what with being posted to Aden at the time and there not being any TV. However, having just landed after a flight from Bahrain that evening, I repaired to the Jungle Bar, the outside bar of the Officers' Mess at RAF Khormaksar, where it was film night - one of the Michael Caine le Carre films, I think - knowing that the barman, Cpl Mulholland, a chap of a similar persuasion to myself, was listening to a match commentary on the BBC World Service. At a film reel change, the news was not good, Inter had scored with a penalty and were ahead. I sat oblivious to the second reel, thinking "So near and yet so far!" When the film was over, I returned to the bar and an ecstatic Cpl Mulholland - "We've won, surr, we've won!!" And so we had, the Lisbon Lions had put two goals through the posts in the second half, and Celtic had become the first British club to win the European Cup. A long time ago.)
  3. Jane: Excellent news, and that's a story in which Cathy should be able to set some very interesting PDDs! As you infer, this commission probably arises from the one-act pieces that she has created for recent Copenhagen summer festivals. (I know I should leave it alone, that it was all 10+ years ago and that things have probably worked out for the best, but it's hard not to keep remembering that those years in-residence at the ROH resulted in not a step for the main stage.)

  15. Today's ballet picture in The Times shows Northern Ballet's Hannah Bateman and Javier Torres, in costume as Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester, in advance of next month's premiere of Cathy Marston's "Jane Eyre" for the company.
  16. Sim: I can get it so it's not on Facebook - it looks like an Italian news site.
  17. And, via Twitter, I see there's also this one, something of an Intro to the one above: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4_PXO5SUyQ&feature=youtu.be
  18. Today's Sunday Times has a News feature on RB dancer, Solomon Golding and his brother, awarded the Sword of Honour at a Sandhurst Graduation Parade on Friday. Two remarkable young men.
  19. John: It's delightful, so many thanks for posting it. Safely bookmarked for occasional future viewing of that expressive and intelligent face! (And his is OK, too.)

  21. I've found this English-language piece from what appears to be a Romanian source. Despite the dateline I doubt that it's up-to-date: http://www.romania-insider.com/famous-danish-choreographer-resigns-from-the-romanian-national-ballet-company-after-management-scandal/168591/
  22. I'm afraid so. Three others, I think, none of them names with which I'm familiar. Short insets, I'd say, but in markedly different styles.
