  1. Following the discussion, above, on the evidence of the short rehearsal piece seen in to day's World Ballet Day RB coverage, nobody should have any fears about how the cello looks to be portrayed in The Cellist. It is male, an active participant, and in no way submissive.
  2. When doing Links, we ignore stories that record events that incidentally involve dancers - or, as here, ex-dancers. I trust that people can accept the clarification, above, and move on. There will be nothing to be gained by discussion here.
  3. A bit of Concerto in today's lead photo: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/news-in-pictures-tuesday-october-22-2019-mg73qq3zt?shareToken=80dc56337f5fe9448896e7bd18a6bb55

  5. Cathy Marston's Jane Eyre opened at Joffrey Ballet in Chicago on Wednesday. If the review in the Sun-Times is any guide, it's off to a better critical start there than in New York. (NB: Google reveals a favourable headline in a Chicago Tribune review, but that paper appears still to be blocked to the EU since the GDPR regulations came into force last year. Members in the States should be able to see it.)

  11. The dance company Ballet Black has launched a survey on Twitter to assess the market for brown tights for children in the 3-10 year age group. (As members may know, about a year or so ago, Freeds began the manufacture of non-pink dance shoes in collaboration with the Company.) A link to the Tweet concerned is here: Whether they have something similar running on Facebook or elsewhere, I can't say. Replies should be made on Twitter or any other medium used by the Company and not on here.

  15. Can I assume that, at least, you know the basics of the plot? A chap returns home unexpectedly, having forgotten his briefcase, to find his wife in bed with another man. That chap goes out a window, leaving his suit, which becomes central to what follows. As I recall, the short bedroom action takes place well to one side of the stage, whilst the rest of the cast are performing a busy street scene of going to work etc. The first photo in this review may help you to assess matters - but NB that it is in relative close-up and excludes all the diversionary activity that's going on off to the right: https://dancetabs.com/2018/03/ballet-black-the-suit-a-dream-within-a-midsummer-nights-dream-london/ From what you've said about your children, I doubt that it should be too off-putting - and, should they go, I'd hope that they are impressed by the wealth of storytelling that is achieved with a small cast and very little by way of staging.
  16. Apologies if I'm being dim, but how will the RB and the RAD be on together from 1430-1500?
