  1. DD is back from school & will. be back until September. She needs to earn money for next year & has managed to find 2 paying jobs.she is also working for her old dance teacher in exchange for classes & in the family business for lifts to work/class. This has all been set up for months. She has also arranged to go back for an associate type class until the end of term as advanced classes round here are hard to find. I thought I'd made sure the teacher knew she couldn't do the end of year show (the others have been learning all year/she can't do any extra rehearsals) So today (first day) the teacher gave her a rehearsal schedule which she can't attend because a) she isn't doing the show & she has 4 jobs Where did we go wrong?
  2. I'm so pleased for you - it's such good news, I feel as happy for you as I was when DD got into Performers
  3. I did the straight away before I forgot; then I almost did it again before remembering I already had
  4. Someone from Mumsnet was videoing it for us but goodness knows if she will have found DD as there were so many & they moved so fast They get to keep the kit but say that the lunches were a bit stingy
  5. Someone from MN is filming it for me; I just wish I knew more people going
  6. Someone on the news said 7% of the world population will be watching - that's like 70 million people (but I imagine most of them will start watching at the kick off not the singing & stuff before)
  7. DD is dancing at the FA Cup Final tomorrow I hate football but I'll be watching
  8. DD never used to get very far in Ballroom/Latin comps; often afterwards parents but surprisingly teachers or even judges/adjudicators would come up to us & tell us how beautiful her technique was...& it was a shame she didn't do better but that they weren't looking for that
  9. (I didn't know they had dancing at the FA Cup) & poor DD came out of the interview discussing it saying now FA Cup, is that football or racing cars....I've neglected that part of her education
  10. & it is frustrating the life out of me that people who previously 'couldn't care less' about dance, are really excited as DD will be dancing at the FA Cup Final on Saturday
  11. With you completely; get into the Junior team and you get time off every week to attend 'football' (or to be fair cricket) but want a once a year comp or exam.....well you can't have time off for a hobby Never mind she has more chance of working professionally as a dance than most footballers have of being selected & the dancer? Questions - will she get on Britain's Got Talent? Well probably not but you people do have careers in Dance that don't involve Ant & Dec or whoever
  12. So relieved she got to go Isn't it nice ParentTaxi - if you want to get in touch I can put her in touch with my DD? Or you can pass on DD's details?
  13. DD has finally decided she is going to Performers College I'm relieved it's all over & I can start to make plans
  14. just to let you guys know - London Studio Centre letters are out - not sure it affects many BcF people but 'all knowledge is good knowledge'
  15. My dad only watched the final (with me) both of us were surprised that boys were judged with girls - we can't think of any other physically demanding field where male/female compete against each other I suppose the argument is that it is an 'art' but to be frank top male athletes will always out perform top female athletes and so are not put into competition with each other. I don't think musicianship is a fair comparison as the ability to play an instrument is not defined my physical strength Can anyone think of a physical situation where men compete against women? My Dad and I would like to be wrong
  16. Oh! That sounds good - I'll be watching to see people experiences too
  17. No problem - it was Dd's back up in case she didn't get in but with 6 offers I don't think she will need it; I'm only sorry everything I found was for older kids She may continue to do some summer schools over the years as a performer with backstage knowledge is useful
  18. & a big MT/dance place near Long Stratton I think.....not sure about that one Nope it's Newton Flotman http://www.artstheatreschool.com/
  19. Swop schools http://www.kgs.org.uk/junior-theatre-technical-club or http://www.nyt.org.uk/audition-types/intake-technical-interviews/starts at 14 I thin NaPM might have more info actually
  20. OK - all the ones I have found summer schoolwise have been around 17/18 Rose Bruford does one - Dd is going on this summer as her summer job is backstage (she's a dab hand with fitting radio mikes and the spotlight & got a fab reference from him last year) & I found this http://www.gsmd.ac.uk/youth_adult_learning/technical_theatre_summer_school/stage_management_skills/but it's older again Is there a local theatre he can ask for 'work experience' at where about (pm me if you'd rather) but there is summer theatre in Southwold if I remember right - but thinking about safeguarding/child protection he would probably only be allowed if an adult/parent came too BTEC level 3's are offered in TT at a lot of sixth form colleges - I can ask Dd's boss if he has any ideas for a child
  21. When you say technical theatre do you mean backstage/lighting etc?
  22. Hi Sballerina; something you have to remember about London - distance is deceiving My parent lived 10 miles from us in London - it could take 45 minutes to an hour to drive there We all moved to Norfolk and were, oddly enough, 10 miles apart again - it took between 12 & 18 minutes to drive to their house So my DD might well be in Woolwich in September but although only about 12 miles away - it would take nearly an hour to drive it & nearly an equal amount of time to get public transport So although you might travel, think 'close' or at least 'as close as possible' as you will be tired at the end of the day
