  1. No last year it wasn't a 2nd audition for DaDA ( I checked my spreadsheet ) But so far that's irrelevant as she hasn't had an offer, she was just remembered
  2. I don't know - I am so confused now by them all (her adding 3 in halfterm after Move-it didn't help)
  3. One of the teachers from Millennium remembered her & asked why, she said she applied last year & he asked what she had been doing, she said Performers Pre-voc & he said she had got better. She said she didn’t get funding last year & he said well fingers crossed…… Woo-hoo!! I know it's not a yes - but she was recognised, which has to be good (or completely awful )
  4. At CATs they start at 10 or 11
  5. It was her first but one of the more important ones Never mind she is getting ready for tomorrow & her landlady is giving her a lift to the train, which is lovely Edited to add Good luck CLGRS - unfortunately the audition panels are a law unto themselves and generally no logic can be ascribed to them
  6. Always I can't get over how these young people pick themselves up & go for it over & over again It's a strength of character I don't have handling rejection so well
  7. Thanks guys - she is pulling herself together for the next one on Monday
  8. DD got a no from Urdang - very quick response; audition Wed & response today
  9. Not residential - at least I don't think so Nice to know it's a good course, we will see if it's manageable
  10. I agree - but teenagers aren't always confident enough for that Never mind - she is happy wearing it out; she tried over two days of Move-it and danced easily with it loose in a hairband. Plus she was 'scouted' talk about an ego boost right before her first audition then new lipstick & foundation on the advise of an older student and we are away The new song is really an old one tweaked & she is all ready to rumble! Heaven help the first college - she is ready to sparkle
  11. I was talking about this yesterday at Move-it; leotard after leotard went back on the rack Helpful comments like 'a really good leotard doesn't need a bra' or 'flesh coloured Bras can't been seen' don't help My DD would be a 26E if they made Bras that size - but they don't so we make do I take straps of cheap flesh/clear bras and attach them to more supportive expensive bras & I buy leotards that have a higher back (but lots of those have a high front too, which is a shame) Dancers come in all shapes & sizes and I think dance/leotard manufacturers should take that into consideration when designing them & as for Sports bras? they could be so much more discrete - I have one (from the 80s) which is much less fabric, loads of support & can be hidden under a vest top BTW a bra should fit really well round your ribs & then the straps are just extra for day to day use (not supporting) & essential when dancing
  12. Dance 2013 it was the Institute of the Arts in Barcelona - the workshop was lovely It was alla bit fast & confusing - I might email them later in the week to sort out what the whole thing was about
  13. If you have a bra that fits you can buy the clear straps & replace them
  14. DD had a fabulous Move-it; she feels she chose her workshops well & really loved them - she booked 5 MT & 1 tap all at the right level (has been a problem before) Then a friend gave her another ticket right before the class started, & she 'won' a free summer school-but it's abroad so not sure if she can go or not DH enjoyed his workshops - an African dance & an seminar about teaching older people I am just exhausted, completely exhausted!
  15. What a lovely thing to say
  16. She uses an elastic band (thinner than an Alice band) to hold t off her face, she has been practising at Move it & she says it's fine no problems at all & the new leotard is purple (so much for red) Aw thanks SarahW; I don't know about a bin bag, but she is easy to dress It's getting more stressful as they approach; & with everyone having replys you wonder if there are places left
  17. She wore her hair out yesterday for Jazz (her hairband snapped) & the teacher loved her Afro & said to wear it loose for auditions This of course freaked me out as it's always been tie up your hair & keep it out of the way.....so she is thinking about it and will try dancing with it out to see if it 'works' They were both her singing teachers (one for group & one individual) She thinks she knows what suits her leotard-wise - she would love white but the underwear situation is always complicated, I like a nice olive green (with her skin tone) but she has decided on black for Ballet & ruby red (if we can find one she likes) for Jazz
  18. It's so confusing We will get there but I wish her teacher agreed with each other
  19. How latin does it have to be & what age dancers? Could you do something with a leotard and a hip tied scarf like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Waltz-Ballroom-Latin-salsa-tango-Cha-cha-Flamenco-Belly-Dance-Lace-Fringe-towel-/381145870044?pt=UK_Ladies_Dancewear_LE&var=&hash=item58be106edc This is probably noy professional enough www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLAMENCO-GIRLS-FANCY-DRESS-COSTUME-ALL-AGES-4-12-RUMBA-TANGO-LATIN-DANCING-/130922689773?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item1e7b99b4ed
  20. When your child has several dance teachers (even within one school) how do you balance the advise they give wrt auditions A singing teacher suggests one song, then next week a different teacher suggests something else Wear a colour; wear black; wear a patten Wear you hair loose (for Jazz not Ballet) tie it up away from your face wear full make-up, wear no make-up, wear red lipstick I'm sure I can think of others - & I know some of these are MT not ballet But how do you decide who to listen to?
  21. Now there is an idea - should have thought of that I'm only there on Sat but DD is going tomorrow atfer a major hair disaster - a new spray turned itall into dreadlocks not a good look for Ballet - I spent nearly 3 hours detangling last night (plus 100 miles each way) Anyone want to meet up? Just PM me if you do
  22. & I find for a very small channel to put a threat through, feeding the needle backwards rather than point first can help you fingers and the item to be threaded Good luck, I imagine it will be 'challenging'
  23. I am sorry SarahW, I don't know how I missed your post (or if I thought I typed a long reply & then didn't post it - I can't blame baby brain as she is 17.....eek I must be getting older) She is loving Performers Pre-voc & getting ready to start auditions; we are off to Move it at the weekend and she is planning summer work (backstage), summer school also backstage & driving lessons for the summer Is your daughter younger? What is she up to?
  24. But you know you can do A levels as an adult or other level 3 qualifications and for some courses a foundation year at the uni is possible to 'prove' you are capable of that level of study Whether physio therapy is so highly soute after that these aren't options, I don't know - but generally for 'most' courses you can catch up
  25. From the information I complied last year it's just one audition
