  1. Are there any photos anywhere of "THE" final performance of M&A by Tamara and Sergei - would love to see if there was a flower throw? I very much enjoyed the perfs on 15th - Tamara and Sergei were great but I also loved Voices of Spring with Emma Maguire and Valentino Zucchetti. La Valse is nice but it suffered from a very untidy start - it improved as the dance went on but the stage was overcrowded and I think they should take maybe 4 dancers out. M1 and M2 were interesting and unusual, and Thais was beautiful. Loved all the music too!
  2. I think this summer is turning into a glut of ballet companies visiting - how on earth are we going to afford it all!!!!!
  3. The triple bill is now replaced by the full performance of Jewels (one assumes due to the McGregor Rite of Spring being pulled) - according to the ROH Friends Newsletter today - HURRAH Jewels is one of my favourite ballets and to see it by the Bolshoi will be a thrill.
  4. How lovely to hear about the performance in Rome - I have never been there (hope to one day). How lovely to get to see 2 fabulous dancers as well! Thank you for sharing your experience.
  5. BBC World News channel featured an interview with Tsiskaridze this morning. I agree that Filin looks remarkably "unscathed" compared to other acid attack victims I have seen - assuming his eyesight is OK then he has been extremely lucky.
  6. Thanks for the review Meunier - I will try to see them next year when I assume they will visit again. Sounds like it was a fabulous evening.
  7. I agree that ROH is the main culprit for over long intervals. I am sorry but when they tell you on the Opera House tours that they are only 1 of 2 theatres in the whole world that have the capability to change set in under 90 seconds then something is not quite right - OK I hear what has been said about floors and toilet queues, fair enough. However, other theatres manage with shorter intervals. I am convinced the whole thing with ROH boils down to money and getting people to dine/drink or whatever. It really really annoys me that very often the intervals are longer than the ballets we are watching e.g. Jewels, triple bills....and frankly it disrupts enjoyment of the production.
  8. I too saw the Trocks last night and, humour aside, the dancing really was of the highest quality and as Janet says the Black Swan PDD was probably the stand out piece - the 32 fouettes were probably amongst, if not the best I have ever seen, rock solid, no cheating eeking out extra spins without whipping the leg, these were 32 proper fouettes and solid landing at the end no slips trips of falls. Odile was danced by "Yakatarina Verbosovich" aka Chase Johnsey and he was just fabulous. "Lariska Dumbchenko" (Rafaelle Morra) danced the lead in Vivandiere and was also Odette in the Black Swan PDD. At the Q&A after the performance those that stayed behind commented on just how high the standard of dance was. We were also informed that the youngest dancer is just 18 and oldest is 52, this being Paul Gishelin (Ida Nevasayneva) who danced his speciality The Dying Swan with his usual skill and hilarity. Robert Carter (Olga Supphozova) danced the main female role in the Walpurgis Nacht and despite a fall (not actually part of the routine we were told) carried on regardless. The Company will be 40 next year and Artistic Director (and ex dancer) Tory Dobrin said they never thought that the Company would last that long. Bravo to The Trocks come back soon.
  9. Thanks Alison - I knew I had seen Marianella IN Onegin but it was as Olga. Glad to hear Marianella was not hurt.
  10. Could not have put it better myself - especially about Osipova's Swan Lake I totally agree!
  11. Ouch - hope you are not in too much pain and that your arm heals quickly Sim.
  12. Hasn't Marianela danced Tatiana before? I didn't think it stated debut on the cast sheet - maybe I have it wrong. Anyway much more importantly SusanR and I wondered if Marianela injured herself as she was quite obviously holding her rib cage at the end and looked winded as well as physically drained (which is to be expected!) - I sincerely hope she is OK. I totally agree that seeing Marianela dance with real life husband Thiago Soares was extra special and the way she hugged him at the end was really so lovely. I have seen Onegin several times at ROH and in Berlin but this one really tugged the emotions somehow - I guess down to the acting and dancing skills of M&T. Probably the best Onegin I have seen to date. Valentino Zucchetti and Meagan-Grace Hinkis also did a great job as Lensky and Olga, and the big scene in Act 1 where they and the corps all run and jump across the stage twice has to be up there with Kingdom of the Shades and Swan Lake's 32 fouettes as one of ballet's great spectacles. Bravo!
  13. Fabulous photographs Dave - as always - much appreciated - can't wait for Saturday now!
  14. Someone asked about why no DVD of Onegin - I think I read on here somewhere that the Cranko Estate refuse permission - quite sad and rather small minded really - as I would love to have Onegin on DVD. I wonder what Cranko would have thought about this? It's the same with NYCB's Viennese Waltzes the music composer's (I forget who) Estate refuse permission for the music to be played in Europe!!??!! I am really looking forwrd to seeing Nunez/Soares on Saturday - weather permitting - and I had hoped to see Davvid Trezensimiech as Lensky but see he has been replaced by Valentino Zuchetti - interesting - oh well just as long as there is no screaming woman in the audience this time unlike the last time I saw Onegin at ROH it will be fine I am sure!!!
  15. Yep he is def worth watching - love him as Basilio or Espada in DonQ!!
  16. Interesting question! I'll be interested in what people think too! I think Darcey is just one of those really nice people and people take to her and that probably helped her make a name for herself.
  17. It's nice ROH have offered refunds but it's laughable that yet again this country can't cope with a bit of snow. NYCB have a snow policy - the show goes on regardless and in my experience it does!
  18. Berlin is very good and I can certainly vouch for the many wonderful restaurants too and Berlin is a very reasonably priced city compared to many others in Europe. The ballet company - Staats Ballett Berlin is pretty good too - one of my favourites and if you go at the very end of November and December you do get lots of wonderful Christmas Markets into the bargain. If you like history as well then Berlin has a lot to offer. I'd agree with Paris and Amsterdam and also Venice is fabulous IF there is any ballet on at La Fenice - I have only managed that once when the Mikhailovsky toured there - it was one of the most amazing places to see a ballet.
  19. Thanks for the info Janet. Great to hear SNB are reputable I have booked my Don Q for Liverpool - and will poss do Manchester too!
  20. I recall reading an article a while ago that said corps dancers at RB were on about £23,000 which for a youngster is not bad money as. As for banking an average bank clerk earns about £14000-£15000 in the provinces.
  21. For fans of Don Quixote there is a tour of Sofia National Ballet and they are doing Don Q with Giselle and Swan Lake. They will be in Liverpool and Manchester in July and various other UK dates/venues. Not heard of them before but looking at their website they seem a pretty big company so I'll given them a go seeing as they are local and tickets less than £40!!
  22. I have safely booked Giselle and Don Q. I would have loved to see Polina and Marcello and N&I in Giselle but it is too dear to stay in London for a week! Oh to win the lottery and just book The Savoy! Sales don't seem to be too fast hope they can manage to sell the season.
