  1. Yes you're probably right, 2 weeks after closing.
  2. Its now passed 2 weeks for us, has anyone else heard anything about the Spring intensive?
  3. Thanks again, unfortunately they are not allowed rosin or hairspray at school. I suppose gel spray might work instead, she could try that.
  4. thank you for all your responses, I shall tell her about trying a spray of water and layer of glue inside shoe. Personally I never had a problem with slipping heels on my shoes, so never had to solve this issue, and I wondered if any of the heel inserts whch are available might work. Her elastics are strong and sewn crossed and close to her heel. I often do them myself if she is short of time and I take pity on her, so I know they and ribbons are done correctly (I've sewn more pointe shoes than I care to count in my time!). As a vocational student she goes through around a pair every 1-2 months and knows how she wants them to feel. She loves her current style having found them after trying many others before so a new style is a last resort. Thanks again
  5. Does anyone have any ideas on how to stop pointe shoes slipping off heels? Dd puts elastics on hers already, usually she wears her tights above the shoe line to prevent slipping, but cant do this for auditions etc. I was looking at heel grips eg Gaynor Minden or Suffolk dance; GM's seem to be out of stock everywhere and Sufolks are gel ones and she doesnt want anything bulky. Hoping not to look for alternative shoes as she loves the ones she has!
  6. Nothing yet... applied on 14th, so not 2 weeks yet for us though.
  7. To add to the list: English National Ballet School Royal Scottish Conservatoire Rambert London Studio Centre Northern Ballet School Kings International KS Dance Ballet Theatre UK Laine Urdang Stella Mann There are others... I dont know much about funding but many of the websites have info there.
  8. Did anyone on this years Autumn intensive receive a video of the sharing of work? I understood they were going to send it out.
  9. I couldnt get a clear idea of which method they are using this time (either announcing after deadline or offering on rolling basis), but it seems to suggest we may hear back in a couple of weeks, so fingers crossed!
  10. Hi Angeline, I have a dd in yr 11 who has been there 5 years. She has loved her time there, and I couldnt have wished for a better school. Its had a bit of a revamp recently with some new studios and classrooms, new and more opportunities etc. its wonderful for the kids, they are having a great year so far. The training is excellent and graduate destinations are focussed on the most popular ballet schools with a few more contemporary/musical theatre choices from some students whose intentions lie that way. Happy for you to dm me if you need to, and answer any questions.
  11. I have a very good friend, who trained at 2 prestigious upper schools, the 2nd was because she diverted to contemporary. After performing in companies and Westend, where work was sporadic but generally regular with a lot of teaching thrown in to keep things going, , she decided to hang up her shoes at around 34 yrs to persue a career in medicine. She had to complete all 3 science A'levels as she had none, but is now a junior doctor in a hospital with 2 small children. I am immensely proud of my friend for her determination and hard work. When I stopped dancing I had no interest in studying outside the danceworld (I had a degree already) and went into teaching. I often use her as an example of how second careers are entirely possible whether they are early or late.
  12. Hi @New to this the details are now on the RCS website, it has been updated, (i) Demi-plie en face Examples: (ii) Degage a la seconde Examples: (iii) Developpe a la seconde en l’air Examples: (iii) Arabesque en l’air, facing decote (side) Examples: (iv) 2nd position en pointe Example: The photographs do not need to be professionally taken but should be against a plain background and of good quality. 21. I agree wish this. Also had a terrible experience of state school and my son had a terrible time at a state primary at the hands of the staff, but that is not what this thread is about. My dd has contrastingly had a wonderful time of vocational and wouldnt swap it for the world. She recoils in horror at the thought of the local state school (its not great) and is so happy that she didnt have to go. I do however realise this is not everyones experience and do not wish to take away from those who have had a traumatic time. Like @Baker45, I simply to point out that its not always like that, not everywhere and not everyone. It is most certainly not acceptable to suffer humiliation, bullying and fear from staff. I sincerely hope that can change and the children who have experienced this can heal and recover. L
  22. Does anyone happen to know what the class sizes are like at Central, ENBS, RCS and Elmhurst?
  23. I can reccommend Thermos food flasks for keeping food warm for lunch. My dd goes to vocational school but there are no lunch facilities, the school recommends all students invest in hot food flasks and I have to say the kids love it. I usually make extra food for evening meals which can be chilled in smalls portions overnight then heated in microwave every morning. The flask is pretty good at keeping food warm enough to feel like a hot lunch. Its usually someing involving pasta or rice and this makes it easier.
  24. Hello @ThatDancingGirl, I cant comment on what the courses are like as my dd is still yr 11, but I do know that Elmhurst and Tring both offer Alevel options if thats any help.
