  1. Surely Wayne Eagling, on whom the role was created, should be coaching? One does wonder sometimes about their coaching decisions when there are so many excellent retired dancers around who worked with our great choreographers? I saw six performances in a week once, with song of the earth. Not an experience I’d wish to repeat.
  2. Saw all my early ballet in Norwich and visit often. Wonderful city and great the company is going to be there. A Nutcracker with a Cuban feel I’m afraid would not be my idea of freezing festive gorgeousness though may well be fab but I’m too old to change my ways! If anyone does go I can heartily recommend the Assembly House next door. Fabulous…
  3. Penney and Park/Eagling Manons. Pause for happy thoughts!
  4. Love reading all these reviews and reflections but I am staggered at how many of our plans are being scuppered by transport issues! It’s ludicrous
  5. Have to say as someone who has not booked further ahead than amphi row J since about 1984, to suddenly be offered money off the two top tickets is a bit odd!
  6. All best to Lauren, beautiful ballerina…as she’s in the MacMillan programme maybe it was just that odette/odile was a step too far after coming back? Who knows, let’s hope she’s back soon. And meanwhile… the lovely partnership is getting an unexpected airing.
  7. It came to me on email I was surprised! I can share it here perhaps or directly with people? It may only work with my log in but there is no harm trying? It doesn’t say just for the recipient… it’s for 22 and 27 March which are different casts. Mods let me know
  8. Wowsers … 40% off offer for two of the MacMillan performances. I still can‘t make it. Not sure why I’ve received this except I do subscribe to the stream … I’m not a Friend of any sort
  9. He’s also just stabbed the jailer. No one really innocent except that poor little assistant maid in act one!
  10. Honestly I’d love to have been there but I simply can’t afford the whole parking train tube seat tube train etc … and trekking about in this terrible weather and you can forget any trains at the weekend. I have in my stores a programme from an evening of ballet led by Fonteyn - must have been so close to retirement- but also Seymour, Wall, Dubreuil among others. This was at the Theatre Royal in Norwich, where I often saw Festival (as was) and SWRB (as was). I believe in our capital city and have no wish to diminish its place - but!
  11. I did wonder about posting pics from SD here but guessing it’s a private space so not advised/acceptable etc …?
  12. Actually I believe his first language is Welsh. I heard an interview with him once where he said he struggled with lessons at first when he arrived at RBS, because he’d been taught the subjects in Welsh.
  13. Spent many many happy hours in the 80s and 90s at the stage door - met some great chums there too! I think the artists appreciate people who just want to share their love for the ballet and how much they have enjoyed the show. Especially a debut … I have recently caught up with an old friend and we went to the SD after Manon, to congratulate the leads and it was great fun, and well received. I would say - keep it brief! But people on this forum are experienced ballet goers with many years and shows to share. I was watching Manon before most of these dancers were born! So we can speak with an element of knowledge about their art..
  14. If i still lived in London I'd see all sorts. But when getting to performances means cars and trains and tubes and buses and late nights - and there are different casts, I'll pick the one that makes me twinkle! (which was a favourite magazine of mine in about 1965 before I moved up to Princess Diana which was full of ballet!)
  15. Just getting huge pleasure from the thought of a piece with WB and FK called Twinkle …
  16. Probably! It’s the sort of thing I worry about with AI!
  17. I had a similar issue last weekend with strikes and engineering so massively sympathise. I was fortunate to be able to stay with an old chum … but had extra expense of putting beloved cats into their hotel! It’s been a right old bore trying to get in and out these past months. So I am so sorry for your troubles and hope you enjoy the future performance!
  18. Reading through all the posts in recent days - you can just see that there’s many different interpretations of the roles and equally as many reactions and deeply felt responses to them. For me, I am thrilled to have seen Bracewell truly deep dive into DG. There was a moment in the closing seconds of the second performance where he lifted Manon and laid his cheek against hers, and you could see he was utterly inhabiting the role. And between the shows had thought so much about it. And he’s such a cheerful, smiley fella offstage ( have you all seen the antics with his partner and Sambe on the train?!) This is absolutely no criticism of Naghdi - a beautiful dancer who found new depths in the role especially in their second outing- but I would love to see Hayward or Kaneko as his Manon. And yes let’s hope for Mayerling.
  19. With no matinees and evening commitments to rehearse for a show I’m in, might have to miss this one!
  20. Well stick a fork in me cos I’m done. That was truly special. The roar when the curtain rose on the two of them together was so filled with so many people’s emotions. Will live with me for ever.
  21. I can confirm Deutsche Bahn not what it was! I’d just like one weekend where I can get a train all the way from Suffolk to London! The challenges of travel definitely make me less keen to come up to the RoH
  22. All booking open and this programme starts in a number of weeks … you’d think maybe by now?
