  1. It is lovely inside, the entrance bit where the parents sit has sofas and chairs, I always really enjoy sitting and chatting to the other parents so I miss that. There is one studio with glass and sometimes ours do Jazz in there or older students in there so you get a sneak peak. They usually do watching day once a term where parents go into the studio but I imagine that won't happen for a while either.

  2. Yes we take turns so it will be the boy's Mum taking them next week. I was so glad to get the 10.30 class for a while as it is normally 8.45 meaning we have to get up at 5.30am. 😱 This morning felt like a lie in! There are some good things about this situation! 😂 My DD loved the smaller class sizes too. 0nly 12 in her class and last year it was close to 30.

  3. That is lovely that he felt so at home with the other children. It is such a friendly place. What a lovely name!

That made me laugh when you said 'she might be a spamcat' 😂😂. I am spamcat because I had a cat called Spam, who had red hair like me! 😁

  4. @BalletBoysDad yes thank you she really enjoyed it and was soooo happy to be back! Sounds like there were a lot of new girls in her class. Glad your son enjoyed it too. I also bring my DDs friend who is a boy and he said there were a few new boys in his class, yes you can pretty much tell the newbies by the lack of tracksuit!

I had to run from one door to the other to pick up my DD and her friend at the same time at two different ends of the building.

  5. Did everyone enjoy their first day at Elmhurst? I expect I was stood right next to some of you and I wanted to say 'are any of you @BellaF or @BalletBoysDad etc but I thought I might seem a bit weird! 😂

My DD said that in her class it was only her and a couple of other girls wearing the 'puke' canvas shoes and everyone else was in satin ones. She really hates those shoes and they are like boats on her feet, last year it was satin.

Spamcat where are you? Manchester isn’t starting until 26th I think (hope!)...!

@Whiteduvet We are Birmingham and they were meant to start last Saturday but it was cancelled due to staff levels but we've just had an email saying they are starting this Saturday. 🙂 I don't know about Manchester sorry. Xx

  7. Oh that is a shame, it is such a lovely place to sit and have a coffee and chat with the other parents. Oh well we can still do that after the restrictions have ended! There is always a Lidl supermarket, you could do your shopping to kill the boredom! 😂

I looked the previous guideline up and it was 6 or 2 households in England. Unfortunately it now appears to be a blanket number of 6 ☹️

We will have to kick 2 of our kids out then. 😂😂

So glad this is not meaning that dance classes have to stop again!

I thought you might be the person to ask given your familiarity with the school and area.. Ad the classes are only 1hr15min for now, do you know if Edgbaston has a small ‘high street’ area nearby, or if it’s a quicker to drive back into Birmingham for a coffee? I fear 75 minutes waiting in the car might drive me slightly mad.

We usually walk to 'The Mac' for a coffee and they also do breakfast, cake etc, it is a local art centre and I'm really hoping it will be open. There is nowhere else walkable that I know of.

I don’t think the guidance ever changed from a maximum of 6 meeting socially, it’s just that you can be fined for breaching it now... hopefully it will be ‘x’  households or maximum of 6 like Scotland/ Wales which seems much fairer for large families

I was thinking exactly that as we are a family of 8 so would not be allowed to see anyone! 😂

My DD's body also looks completely different now to the photos from 9 months ago. Back then her torso looked long in comparison to her legs and now her legs look really long!

My DD is exactly the same! It is like her legs have suddenly caught up. 😂

I’ve keep questioning the ‘fairness’. It makes me wonder if there will be some sort of shortlist made even before from the initial application photos, then a quick sweep of the first videos...

In a ‘normal’ audition at least all children were given an equal environment, an equal amount of time and presumably an equal amount of consideration. If they didn’t shine in one place, they might have demonstrated potential elsewhere.

I feel a slight discomfort that a ‘no/not yet’ might raise more questions this year than a ‘normal’ audition. It might leave a lingering after though as to was my child given a fair chance....

Lingering doubts that will never really be resolved I guess.

Yes I'd had the same thoughts. I really hope they haven't already ruled some out by photos, I hadn't thought of that. (Checking photos again!). My DDs legs have had a growth spurt since the pictures and her plie is also much better after lots of practise. Surely they have to at least consider everyone's videos?

We'll never know but I'm sure due to the different audition process there wil be some kids who get in, who otherwise wouldn't have and visa versa.

I hope they at least watch past the 'standing still listening' bit! 😂
