I know of 2 girls who have got Year 5 places in London but agree the majority of places seem to be for Year 4!
Yay a whole month to drive myself crazy still 😂

It is nice to know there are some, I was beginning to think that they aren't taking any year 5s at all! Yes a month of craziness, I am already checking every 5 minutes to see if the videos have been viewed. 🤪

I've just had an email from Elmhurst YD saying that, even in the circumstance of a class location moving into tier 3, sessions will continue as they are education.

    Hope that helps a little.

I was just coming on here to say exactly that! 😊

I noticed they did mention not to travel to Elmhurst if local restrictions where you live do not allow it.

Just testing our set up before filming tomorrow - to those who used a laptop linked up to a screen did the very slight time delay pose any issues?

Well done to all who have had their results so far. Such a strange time to be auditioning and sounds like there are fewer places than usual so everyone has done brilliantly!

We linked the laptop to a TV in the end and didn't notice a time delay. Also with the TV on max volume we could hear it ok.

When I first tried setting it up I just used the laptop with a Bluetooth speaker and the sound was so quiet with a lag of 2-3 seconds!

Hi... don’t know if this helps but my dd birthday is 31 August.. got no for yr 4..swl for year 5 ... yes for yr 6 and this was my concern too at the time & their feedback was they do take age into account  .

That is good to know thank you! Well if they are not taking many year 5s this year we can try again for yr 6 very soon. I really hope the auditions are in person next time. 🤞

My dd got a no again this year, she was ok about it thankfully. Also a bit disappointed with the whole process as £50 is fine for the proper audition as it is a great experience but not great to film it yourself and barely have the videos looked at. Not many (if any?) yr 5 places being offered, I wonder if with it being only 2 terms they are favouring the yr 4's?

Congratulations to the yeses and the swl's and commiserations to the not yet, the main thing is that they all keep loving their dancing ❤

I can't think of any year 5 yeses I've seen?? My DDs birthday is right at the end of August so if she'd been born a few days later she would be a year 4. She was only 7 at her audition last year.

I completely get all of that. However our first video was only viewed for the first 28 seconds- she hadn’t even moved off the spot by then 😂 I firmly believe everything happens for a reason and she’s so happy at Elmhurst that I don’t think she would have moved anyway but I do wonder about this process. £50 is a lot more money than any other audition we have taken part in, yet this was the only one not conducted via zoom 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you know it was actually the first 28 seconds or was it just 28 seconds in total? The first 28 seconds they are just stood still listening!

It’s so hard. They have really specific requirements regarding turnout and flexibility, and a child that doesn’t meet these would have to be absolutely magical to watch to get in without meeting these requirements. There was a girl in DD’s JA class with really limited turnout, but she was stunning to watch so they tried really hard to work with her issues. Ultimately, she didn’t make it into MAs, but it was easy to see why they wanted to help her.

With so many videos to watch, they couldn’t possibly spend time watching children that do not fulfil the criteria. The £50 fee is for the admin process and for them to be considered, but no one would expect them to keep watching if they know that a place will not be allocated to that child.

Children change a lot from one year to the next, and a ‘no’ one year can become a ‘yes’ later. RBS is not the only school, and ballet is not the only dance form, but the process is universally tough, and the first knock backs can be hard to accept.

Although it is also really sad to think that a child who was so stunning didn't make it. I hope she made it somewhere else.

That is so lovely to read that they do sometimes make an effort for some children who don't perfectly fit the mould!

My DD got a yes for year 4! Actually can’t quite believe it, we went in with absolutely no expectations whatsoever. She is over the moon!

Bittersweet though, as my eldest tried 3 times to get in, but never made it, so I know how the parents and littles ones who didnt get in feel. Eldest DD did go on to Elmhurst associate classes which she loved- there is more than RB out there.

I have no idea at all what the RB look for, as both my daughters are beautiful dancers. The great unknown!

    Congratulations that is brilliant!

    There is hope! 😂

If that’s the case, in a ‘normal’ year, some of those SWL would probably be ‘yes’, and some of those ‘no’ would probably be ‘SWL’. It feels very disheartening.

Yes that is what I'm thinking.

I think this year if anyone gets a no or swl definitely don't take it as meaning your DC is not 'good enough' as they may very well have got a yes under normal circumstances!

I imagine class sizes will have been reduced this year due to Covid? That must be why they are sending out some emails asking people to apply again next year.......

Yes and as applications usually open in January, we won't have to wait long until they start all over again! 😁

  12. Sorry to all of the Nos. 😢 It really does seem like there are very few places this year. Last year on this forum when results came out there were quite a few yeses. Am I right that there has only been one yes on here so far?! At least we can have realistic expectations that it is almost definitely going to be a no.

@tutugirl I haven't seen any this year but there were a few yr4 yeses last year but they seemed to be kids older in the school year, the one I know was October born yr4. My DD applied for yr4 last year as a tiny August born and got a no. We were feeling hopeful this year as she has come on so much but I realise the chance is almost zero.

We weren't able to use any wifi and took a day to upload.  Will know if have to do it again in the future.

I'm so glad I didn't leave it until the last minute! 😱 Uploaded number 2 overnight and currently still uploading the third video.
