  1. Just got back from a rather wintry encore screening of The Nutcracker (snow on the walk back and the boiler had packed-up at the arts centre where it was being screened). Nevertheless a lovely Sunday afternoon and always interesting to see everything close-up compared to seeing it live at Covent Garden. What a beautiful partnership of William Bracewell and Fumi Kaneko - looking forward to seeing them again next year in The Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella.
  2. Perhaps if you make contact with ROH they may be able to put you in touch with the photographers and they may be able to provide pictures of your son on stage? Have a look on the ROH's Flickr account as well as there might be something on there.
  3. I think that point was made when the Arabian dance was changed a couple of years ago! I personally don't have an issue with the new version but couldn't see a problem with the old one !
  4. "A gleaming Rolls-Royce of a production" according to the Telegraph. Four stars.
  5. What a lovely opening night for The Nutcracker yesterday evening. Everyone on top form; Yasmine Naghdi her usual excellent self - so self-assured; James Hay the perfect Nutcracker/Hans-Peter and Isabella Gasparini a charming Clara - she has such a lovely, genuine smile. So pleased to see Gary Avis receiving such a large bunch of flowers - he looked genuinely surprised. I suspect he is most people's perfect Drosselmeyer. Not only a brilliant actor but seems a lovely guy - someone posted on my IG that they weren't able to go to due to illness and he took the trouble to comment and commiserate. Personally, I would quite like to see a triple bill to run with the Nutcracker (which has been done previously) but perhaps that puts too much of a strain on the dancers and I suppose affects revenue as well. So wonderful to see Sir Peter Wright at the end - I hope I have that level of energy if I reach that age! Finally - has James Hay ever been filmed as the Nutracker - I know he was in the BBC's Dancing the Nutracker a few years ago but not sure if he has been in a cinema screening in that role. Finally finally - saw someone filming parts of Act 1 in the first row of the Grand Tier out of the corner of my eye. Is "please switch off your mobile phones...and the filming and taking of photos is strictly forbidden" not clear enough?
  6. Lovely photos @Dawnstar. I'm afraid mine (from further away) are a bit of a blur!

  9. Booking for Spring was very smooth this morning - I was more picky than usual about seating given the price increases but hopefully they will be fine!
  10. Details of upcoming timetables (subject to any further strike dates presumably): The National Rail Enquiries Journey Planner is not yet showing the strike day services for the national industrial action dates. Timetables are expected to be showing the correct strike day service levels by the following dates: For travel from 12 to 16 December, the Journey Planner will be correct on 10 December For travel on 17 and 18 December, the Journey Planner will be correct on 14 December For travel on 24, 26 and 27 December, please check back here closer to the time of travel For travel on 3, 4, 6 and 7 January, please check back here closer to the time of travel
  11. There seemed to be some indication that things might be moving towards a deal - clearly nothing so far: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63867226
  12. As there is a streamed Insight this evening, and performances start next Tuesday (looking forward to that!) I thought I might start a new thread in anticipation. Link to this evening's Insight - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWR0nw2uIN0
  13. https://www.roh.org.uk/tickets-and-events/40/mayerling-by-kenneth-macmillan/cast-list/51306 Cast sheet up for tonight - glad to see James Hay is back (I was more concerned really for next week’s Nutcracker!)
  14. Extract from the Friends' magazine with details of ticket prices, dates etc etc
  15. That's a shame. Hope you find find something. It would be great if you could be notified of seats becoming available for a particular day/performance rather than having to keep checking the website!
  16. My problem is that my local station (Guildford) is on the main Portsmouth Line, but during strike days SWT only serve on the South West Main Line (Waterloo to Weymouth) and my nearest stop would be Woking. Public transport connections between Woking and Guildford (other the train) aren't great and I then have to travel from Guildford southwards. All a bit painful and (potentially) hit-and-miss!
  17. I suppose the problem in this instance is that the strikes are for 48 hrs so if you travelled the day before, you may be stuck for three nights before being able to travel back.
  18. That’s a bug***. I can get to the Nutcracker but may have to cancel the RB class 🤬
  19. Waiting with trepidation- I am also booked for the 6th and 16th - don’t really want to have to stay in London overnight!
