The Sleeping Beauty, Royal Ballet 2023
MJW replied to MJW's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Very much so. Looking forward to seeing this cast again in March. I head a child crying earlier - it sounded like a baby from the amphitheatre but I thought under 5's weren't allowed? -
The Sleeping Beauty, Royal Ballet 2023
MJW posted a topic in Performances seen & general discussions
The general rehearsal is tomorrow morning (Saturday 14th) and the run starts on Monday. The cast sheet for tomorrow has now been released - I am very pleased that William Bracewell and Fumi Kaneko will be performing (lucky for those of us who will be going tomorrow and I am seeing them again later in the run). https://static.roh.org.uk/digital/cast-sheets/Sleeping+Beauty/Beauty_general-v5.pdf -

According to BBC News - If workers agree to strike, details must be given to the employer at least 14 days before it begins (unless the union and employer agree to seven days). -

Yes - I've had the same problem. All other streams seem fine.

You might just want to check with ROH though (!)

My subscription was monthly - I have cancelled before payments start next month and my subscription runs until 18th January. If you cancel before your payment is taken and within the three month "free" period (as far as I can see) you won't be charged.

Got round to visiting the Winslow Homer exhibition at the National Gallery today. Bit of a shock how busy London was as I don't normally visit during the Christmas holidays. Anyway, well worth visiting if you are in London. Ends on 8th January. https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/exhibitions/winslow-homer-force-of-nature There is also a Lucian Freud exhibition taking place at the NG which ends on 22nd January.

As a Friend I haven't had to pay anything (thus far) but I have to agree with you its been rather disappointing to date. I was hoping to see things that haven't been already available on DVD etc. Still no sign of the Ashton triple as I mentioned on the ROH's IG account when they were reviewing the past year (lots of likes for the comment but no response from ROH!)

Audience Behaviour - Thread 2
MJW replied to BalletcoForum Moderators's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Presumably that's why companies use extracts from previous professional filming for cinema screenings/recordings etc in their advertising. They have no need to rely on filming from the audience. -
Audience Behaviour - Thread 2
MJW replied to BalletcoForum Moderators's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
It is disturbing and distracting to others in the audience and quite possibly to those on stage as well - hence the ban. -

I see from photos that James Hay was also presented with flowers last night which is very sweet - he certainly seemed very chuffed.- 572 replies

Perhaps next year instead of the Royal Ballet's Pointe Shoes Appeal it should be Gary Avis' Glitter Fund? ๐ I remember on one occasion previously he had "extras"- 572 replies

I know ! I hope they aren't waiting until the three months free subscription for Friends expires before adding it in the hope that people then subscribe for access? Is that too cynical for Christmas?

Audience Behaviour - Thread 2
MJW replied to BalletcoForum Moderators's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Perhaps a complaint to ROH is required if staff aren't doing their jobs properly. There is little point in having a policy forbidding filming or the taking of photos during a performance and asking everyone to switch off their mobiles etc if it isn't enforced. It is clearly difficult if perhaps someone is sitting in the middle of the Stalls but perhaps a quiet word during an interval and a further announcement regarding filming etc at the start of the next act? Thankfully (touch wood) I've rarely seen anything too flagrant - I did have to ask someone to switch off their 'phone for a Nutcracker some years ago. -

Royal Ballet Class on Stage

Unfortunately not. They did film a special class on stage for Friends during Covid but I think that was because one with an audience had to be cancelled. -

Glad you enjoyed - I think that was possibly the third time I have seen the Royal Ballet in class and it is always fascinating. Going again April. Its always interesting how many dancers I can identify but as most of them are in the corps its a bit harder. Glad I managed to get there despite the train strikes - it just took longer than usual. I was in B31 by the way at the end of your row!
