  1. Looking for a ballet physio assessment (London) for my DC who has clicking hips. Any recommendations? Thanks
  2. To add: you are also within a 20 min walk of all the Covent Garden ballet shops if supplies are needed (Bloch, Capezio, Freed etc)
  3. Dd did the central course last year, we got quite a comprehensive intro email about the timetable, have you had that yet? She enjoyed it a lot, made friends and there is a nice performance at the end for parents. Central have nice modern studios and facilities and they are accompanied by very talented pianists. Central is just back from the Thames at Waterloo, so if you’re wondering what to do whilst waiting, you have lots along the Southbank - you can walk along the river from Waterloo to London Bridge, there is the TAte modern art gallery, the Globe, National theatre, Southbank Centre, BFI, or you can walk the other way past the London Eye, Houses of Parliament to Vauxhall and eventually the new Battersea Power station complex. It’s quite a good location for exploring. Hope you both have fun!
  4. I’m just wondering what your child wants to do with dance - if it is improve in ballet then it might be worth adding in a class from another school eg associates or have some private ballet lessons and see what the feedback is? If you want to say where you are in the country people could suggest good schools/teachers. Your set up seems v focused on performance over everything for competitions and I’m sure that type of school is hard to leave, you get caught up in the adrenaline rush and social media announcements. If it helps to hear, my dc has had the opposite experience, is at a v small local church hall type school, doing solid basic technique working through RAD exams, no shows or comps at all but from this solid base we have added in performances and associates (with the encouragement of the teacher). There is no shouting, bullying or favouritism and the teachers qualifications are on the website. From the music world, I’ve found my kids to be very poor judges when it comes to making changes - they feel loyal to their teachers and want things to stay the same. We’ve changed music schools and teachers listening to our gut feelings as adults and looking back the kids now say these were the right decisions although they resisted at the time and had to trust our judgement. I also think it is healthy to have more than one teacher for something. Good luck - its tough managing these niggling doubts.
  5. Had an email from ENBS to say don’t panic they will be in touch about the associates programme.
  6. No nothing as yet here - just reread the email to check I hadn’t read it wrongly!
  7. Good luck to anyone auditioning tomorrow at Central.
  8. I’ve also heard very good things about Central associates so am in a dilemna (didn’t expect to get into ENBS, it was a last minute stab in the dark).
  9. I was wondering this too - my 14 year old has an offer of a senior associate place. She is also auditioning at Central although it’s on a train strike day so it’s going to be tricky. Central’s associate programme is all day and includes more (Pilates and pas de deux), does anyone have any experience of them and how they compare - how to choose? I’ve noticed from Instagram announcements that the same girls have offers from RBS, ENBS associates etc so how to make a decision?
  10. My daughter had a waiting list place for tour when she was 9. A place didn’t become available that year but she tried again the next year and got a place in the main company that year. There was a small amount of movement last year but nobody gives up their place lightly as you can imagine. So tell your daughter to keep trying if she can stand it - doing the LCB summer school and lots of EYB helped develop performance. The competition is SO tough. It seems to get harder every year.
  11. The wait is killing us - especially as finals didn’t go AS well as hoped. It’s got to be soon though, casting is coming up.
  12. Results are in - good luck everyone. My dancer was lucky enough to get a place in the company.
  13. Nope. I've been driving myself crazy checking. It's been a very painful day.
  14. Thanks for checking, I can have a peaceful few days now! Good luck everyone.
  15. When are people expecting to hear? I'm checking my emails obsessively and it's not good!
  16. EYB are doing a live class streaming on Instagram taught by Philip Tunsall - Junior 8-12yrs Thursday noon, and Senior 12-18yrs Friday at noon.
  17. So true and could apply to so many things in parenting. Thanks for this perspective!
  18. Well done! They are going to have a great summer.
  19. Yes she did - I hope yours did too? my dd was an 8 year old courtier in 2018 swan lake, so in Acts 1 and 3 - Act 2 was all swan. There were lots of junior and senior courtiers, dancing and doing eating and drinking acting around the back. It depends on height and costume fitting. She is hoping to be a swan this time round but we’ll see.
  20. I don't have experience of disclosing an eating disorder to a program/school, but as a health professional I often write 'in remission' when things are resolved but we'd like to flag up that they have occurred to protect the young person - so how does 'eating disorder in remission' sound?
  21. We will be at this one with lots from the ballet school - my daughter has done Swan Lake at Wimbledon and Coppelia in Hastings and loved both, made lots of progress. It is not cheap but worth it. Yes they spend 2 weeks learning their own roles and understudying others, generally watching and learning from each other. Lots about acting in dance too. Happy to answer any other questions. Good luck in the audition!

  23. She is 10 in Year 6 Sally-Anne. I think a waiting list place is a big achievement, she clearly is a beautiful dancer to be on the waiting list. Do you have an EYB experience near you? My daughter had a great year after she didn’t get called off the waiting list, did an EYB instead and then the LCB summer school so a year later perhaps she had more dancing behind her to be able to act as well. It’s worth persevering if they love dancing, but not if it gets too upsetting I think. Fingers crossed someone drops out for your daughter!
