  1. Oh I wish I’d asked this first now. I’d assumed all first position would be sized the same.

Re the hair bows, obviously we buy the ribbon, I would have cut it to size but with the braided plaits they would need to be a clip wouldn’t they as there is nothing to wrap a ribbon round?

Thank you for starting this thread. Does anyone know if the leotards come up small? I’m tempted to get a 3A for my daughter going into year 6 because she’s tall for her age.  But then again 3A is for age 12-14 which sounds a bit big!

I’ve ordered a size 2 for DD she’ll be 9 in Sept and is 132cm tall. I tried a couple of first position (make of the JA leotard) on at her dance school on sat. I don’t know if that helps at all.

Thank you all for the hair tips, I’m reasonably ok with hair so with a bit of practice we should be fine.

@Bluebird22 re the U shaped pins. Do you mean bun pins rather than grips?

with regards to thick hair and plaits, honestly thick, long (bottom length) curly hair goes fine into it, you just wrap the plaits round more

Ooh that’s good to know thanks. We’ll have a bit of a practice 😁

Yep you need a small bow pinned on to each side of the head. The teacher at Leeds wont mind a bun in the first lesson but she does expect the plaits for yr4 and 5 :)

I might have to talk DD into a nice new hair cut then, otherwise I'm not sure they will look as neat as yours :)

  5. @sunrise81 Hair looks so lovely like that, but DDs is so long and thick. The pack I received said normal hair for first class and then the teacher will let you know what they prefer... DD will be going to Leeds so eek!!!

I did ask a question about the full tracksuit and was advised not to bother with the bottoms, but in the end I couldn't resist. If they don't fit they'll go back, but it felt easier to order everything at once.

  6. @Waverley fab news. Congratulations, and also to all the other yes’s.

Fingers crossed something comes of the SWLs and really sorry for the not yets.

So glad this forum was here to sort through the madness... I’m sure it’ll run into another few pages yet!

How important do you think the photos are?  My daughter was really ill (looks terrible dark circles etc) when we took them but had to do them that day as we were running late for sending them in!

Whilst we were waiting for our results I kept looking back at DDs photos and pulling them apart (she has a double chin on one as her head is down 😳😁).

Also on the day of the audition DD was at the end of recovery from an ankle injury and hadn’t danced for several weeks before hand. Not only that but she was also poorly we got to the audition and weren’t 100% sure whether she’d actually go in. Thankfully she brightened when her friends turned up. But still looked unwell 😮

Once we were back home I took some more pics for another application and she looks so pale and drawn on them.

On the face of all of all this I really thought the odds were stacked against her but she was lucky enough to be offered a place.

This is probably quite an outing post but hopefully it provides some reassurance that you really cannot ever know.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

When the lie on their front and bend their legs, knees together and feet out to the sides making a ‘v’ shape.

This is the first time I’ve understood this 🙈. I’ve tried to picture it from so many descriptions... just about to ask DD if she had to do it 😁

Apologies if this has been asked before.

I know nothing about the SWL.

Has anyone ever had luck finding out their DC’s position on the waiting list (chances)?

How really short is that list?

I’ve heard anecdotes of people getting places off the list, but no one I personally know.

I’ve already responded “yes please” to the list, but have no idea of the chances.

I’m heartbroken for DD who who thinks “she’s kind of in and it’s just a matter of time now”.

I can’t tell her that she’s wrong or that she’s right... and she’s too small to understand.

I’m so sorry @ExpatB, I’m no help but I wanted to send you and DD a virtual hug. Im keeping my fingers tightly crossed for you.

It does clash, yes. I spoke to EYB as we knew she’d got in before the EYB audition. They said they’d let the JAs miss one of the two Saturday rehearsals, maybe both but they’d have to miss JAs for matinee day. It also clashes with another programme for us too so we decided not to do it this time as she wants to be at all her royal classes

Oh thank you. I was going to email both and hope they’d be understanding. I don’t want to over commit DD but EYB would be almost over when JAs start so hope we can make it work.

I am sure the teacher wont mind missing a lesson for a performance, especially since it was auditioned for before results came out. She is very understanding,  but does also make it clear that they should attend every lesson and RBS should be more important than festivals etc, but plenty seem to still do these.....my dd never has. They changed the time so that the Year 6s could attend the Northern Ballet CAT scheme in the afternoon (which my dd will be doing).

Oh that’s good to hear. And a good point about getting EYB before JAs. It will just be the one and we won’t be committing to anything else.

Fab that your daughter is doing the CAT scheme. A few girls from DDs dance school did it and loved it x

I also need to look at Northern in the hope their are some adult classes at a similar time to make up for me missing my pointe class 😂

Thank you for all your help. I’ll stop detailing the thread now x

  12. Thank you @sunrise81  a mid sept start reduces it down to 2 clashes. One would be to request a later start at EYB and one is the actual performance which would be a missed JA class. Would that be allowed? (Why couldn’t they leave the younger ones with a 9.30 start 😭)

The email said further info would  be sent in July but we have to accept EYB by 2nd July.

Sorry I probably appear quite neurotic now. This was not something I thought we would be facing. It’s a good problem to have but I’d hate to tell DD she can’t do EYB 😮X

Leeds year 4/5 is 12.15 to 2.30 next year. They have been the first class in the morning but we will be changing from September so the year 6 class is going to be the 9.30am now instead of the yr 4/5. There was me thinking I would finally get to the year of lie ins, and the RBS powers that be, change their mind 😂

Thank you for this. Depending on when term starts it might clash with EYB eek! How do I deal with that???

That is so exciting, let us know how it goes! Huge congratulations x

It was lovely. I put the news in a card congratulating her for EYB and adding that it was also for JAs. She looked at me and cried 😍. She is very excited and I’m still reading the email constantly to check I’ve got it right! X
