  1. It won’t be long now!!! I let DD wear her jacket last week for the first time. She was super excited.

Quick question though, in the handbook it says to take a towel for the floor exercises but do children take towels or yoga mats (Leeds specifically)?

The shoe rule is quite strict I think from what I’ve heard from a mum of a previous London JA. Leather full sole works the foot harder apparently!

This really does make sense. Split soles are lovely, but I keep telling my DD that they are a lazy shoe (as in make your feet look nice without having to really try.. I find this myself when swapping between my own split soles and soft blocks ). I keep telling DD that full leather will prepare her feet much better for pointe, for which she is counting down the years!

Good idea , thanks ...I ordered the 2 in the leotard but now wondering if I need to downsize that too 🤪 xx

We also had to do that :) We now have both sizes as although size 1 fits better now, I'm not sure it'll last 3 years.

This is excellent thanks....I’ve just ordered this morning and ordered 9-11 in the jumper but after seeing your pic , I think it’s going to drown DS so will probably have to get 7-8 xx

I did the same but emailed them to change the order and they did so we had the 7-8 delivered instead :)

Yes in Leeds they walk in to class in full tracksuit and sometimes keep it on for warm up, especially in winter as studios are freezing.

Oh that’s good to know. I bought the full tracksuit and although the bottoms are a bit baggy they’re ok, and if they wear them for more than just travelling I’m happy I got them x

  6. DD came out slightly disappointed as she wanted to be a princess but is a servent (she’s 8 ) I’ve tried to tell her she’ll love her part just as much but I know so little about the parts, if anyone can shed any light that would be great.

I’ve read the linked threads but they are more older parts rather than Junior parts.

Photos, always been an odd one as the written rule has always been there. Don’t take inside the buildings and don’t take of other children (especially if you don’t have permission) certainly. Everyone has a photo outside the building though in their tracksuit, especially if it’s at London or Birmingham where it’s a royal ballet building.  Not meant to post on social but in reality everyone does of their own child in their uniform on their first day etc and lots of dance schools also post. Perhaps don’t tag RBS on a hashtag just in case 😂

The only time you are allowed to take photos inside a building is on watching days and only at the time when the teachers allow it (never during class), but again should only post photos with other children on if you have their permission. I see photos every year from all centres. But only at the allowed times, and although they do say don’t post, parents are proud and they do, but being careful not to post pictures of people they don’t have permission from x

Thank you. This is really helpful. X

  8. Thanks for that @sunrise81. I have now emailed about DDs EYB and other MT associate programme.

Did anyone read the section in the handbook about photo's is it correct that you cannot put any pictures of JA pupils on social media (I'm thinking about a first day pic of DD posted to the closed dance school social media page). It would make sense as you don't see many pics online when you search JAs, just official ones.

It does look lovely once on though. My DS showed his teacher and she was quite fond of how it fits so he'll just have to get used to it (the shorts are cut like Bridget Jones pants, much shorter at the front, which I thought looked odd but she said really shows off their legs). :)

It all arrived in just two days from order - I was very impressed.

That's really good. I'm still waiting for our tracksuit / ballet shoe order. They did say 2/3 weeks, but that's because they have to make the skirt. I can't wait for it to arrive :)

  10. @PutYourBooteesOn oh that’s fab. It’s lovely hearing how excited she is. DD has no idea about the tracksuit 😁. I’ve kept it a surprise until now and thought about waiting for her birthday beginning of Sept but I don’t think I’ll be able to once it arrives 🙈. Yours came really quickly. I ordered ours on the Sat after the results and still waiting for it all, however it did give me time to change the order for the track suit to a 7-8 (I’m hoping I’ve done the right thing!)

A size 1 leotard arrived for DD today and it’s snug (with the strange crotch) if she grows anymore before sept I’m not sure it’ll fit but I didn’t send the size 2 back so we have options 😁

Hairdressers tomorrow so we had a bit of practice with hair at the weekend (DDs hair is very long and thick) and it went in securely but looked bulky from the back and not like the pictures attached above. It looked lovely from the front though. So.... DD agreed that we need to have a good trim and thin out tomorrow (phew!! Always a battle 😂😂)

I tried to include a pic of her hair but it always say the file is too big and I don’t know how to make it smaller on my phone.

  11. Oh dear, looks like we’re all having issues. @BattementBatty Your DDs leotard looks good, but I can see what you mean about the crotch.

I tried DDs again yesterday and thought it was ok but looked again and it gapes at the shoulders so I have ordered a size 1. I’m keeping the size 2 as she’ll grow into it at some point.

I also emailed to change DDs tracksuit to a 7-8. 🤞🤞

Measured my DD last night for the RBS online form thing and she comes up at 141 cm tall if that helps - mostly in the legs though rather than body.

It does thank you. DD is only 132cm tall so I’ll see if I can get them to change the order.

Lovely idea for a group.  DD starts Birmingham JA in September, I'm just looking at ordering the tracksuit, does anyone know if they come up large or small.  DD is age 8, 9 in November but worried the 9-11 will drown her and the 7-8 may not last long.

    exciting times :)

When I emailed them they said they are true to size. DD is 9 in Sept and I ordered a 9-11 and I’m also worried it will be too big.

The leotard arrived and is slightly baggy so I think I’ve got that wrong too. Despite doing all my measuring 😭

Hi all - we have finally accepted DD’s place today after a week of discussion 😂

she will be in the Newcastle class - I’ve ordered a size 0 leo and a 7/8 jacket and hoping it all fits as she is a small 7 year old, not 8 until August...

thanks for all the tips above!

Fab news. Well done your DD.

  15. Thank you all.

We are local so will likely go home in between as they are such a long time, so not too much hanging about for us thankfully.

DD is very excited to start.

Thanks for the information it is very appreciated by all the SWL’s. Do you know when payment is due?  Sometimes there’s movement around that time.

First payment isn't due until August (no specific date given).

  17. Hello @Ed_DanceMum the offer letter just said accept or decline as soon as possible so they could offer any declined places to others. Once I’d accepted I got the handbook and that had a deadline of 1st July to complete the student information.

    Fingers crossed for you.
