  1. As The Royal Ballet prepare for the return of Natalia Makarova's La Bayadère, the Company will livestream rehearsals on 24 October 2018 from 7.30pm BST. The Insight stream will feature Principals Yasmine Naghdi and Akane Takada being coached by Makarova, as well as interviews. Watch the livestream via this page, or via the Royal Opera House YouTube channel. Very excited to be going to see Akane and Yasmine with Natalia Makarova tomorrow, and good to know it is also being broadcast live.
  2. Yes - and only 3 in-house principals dancing. Giving 5 outings to Ball and Clarke and none to Campbell seems rather unfair. No Hirano either.
  3. Excited to seeTakada making a debut as Juliet... but does she always have to dance with McRae? Also pleased to see the Stix-Brunell and Bracewell debuts there. A bit disappointed that Campbell is seen as a Frankenstein, but not as a Romeo...
  4. Poor Kevin....he must know that virtually every time he appears on the stage the audience are going to be inwardly groaning.
  5. Thanks Bluebird. In fact I see now that the following appears on the ROH's website ticket page: Occasionally we are able to offer standby tickets four hours before a performance at half-price. These standby tickets are also available to those on Income Support, those in receipt of disability-related state benefits, ES40 holders, all ROH Access Members, under-18s, Westminster City Save Card, WC2 residents and Senior Citizens receiving Pension Credits at £12.50 for ballet and £15 for opera. Information about standby tickets is given within 24 hours of the performance. These tickets are offered at the management’s discretion. For information about their availability, phone the Box Office on +44 (0)20 7304 4000. If you are a student, you can register with ROH Students, allowing you to take advantage of unsold tickets for Royal Ballet and Royal Opera productions at the bargain price of £10. So not just students, but anyone for half price and potentially even less if you fall into one of the given categories. Worth knowing, for anyone able to react at short notice!
  6. I had a similar experience with Acosta at the RAH recently... loads of empty seats showing on the website leading up to the performance, but on the night (although the RAH was not completely full), very many of the supposedly empty seats had been taken. I don't understand how so many seats can be bought at the last minute.
  7. As I recall there have always been 2 performances for Asphodel Meadows/Two Pigeons on the 2nd Feb. Anyway, if you are signed in for booking, the details showing are: 2pm Asphodel Meadows - Kaneko Richardson Magri Corrales Maeda Dyer Two Pigeons - Choe Campbell Mendizabal Edmonds 7pm Asphodel Meadows - Nunez Hirano Morera Bracewell Hinkis Acri Two Pigeons - Takada Hay Magri Montano
  8. Glad to hear that last night went so well. Did those of you there notice many empty seats? There seemed to be something like 400 still available yesterday morning....
  9. It shows casting information once you click the individual dates on that page, logged in as a Friend thus allowing you to book.
  10. What you are referring to seems to be problems with the pages that appear if you not yet able to book. If logged in as a Friend, and can book, it seems OK or at least consistent.
  11. Balletfanp I see no difference in using the calendar or the production routes to the info....Morera and Hirano in the matinee on the 20th, and Lamb and Muntagirov in the evening. Is that what you expected? I don't see the problems mentioned here with Two Pigeons either. Is this all some sort of temporary blip that has now been sorted? PS I know Two Pigeons can be confusing due to the two different bills it appears on.
  12. Well that is a pretty positive response from the boss, and it is now effectively on the record. I'm sure that's right bridiem. Generally I think the c*ck-up explanation, rather than the conspiracy theory, turns out to be correct - in this case seemingly a result of an ill-thought out, and ill-presented consultancy exercise. If someone at the ROH did have the bright idea of "let's try to reduce the frequency of attendance of our core so we can get a wider audience" then perhaps the reaction to that idea, from the core, caused a re-think. Thanks so much for your persistence with this!
  13. Apparently not; we were informed a while back that this was just a technical problem, albeit one taking a long time to solve - as I posted earlier on the "new ROH" thread: Our apologies for the problem that you are experiencing in accessing our digital programmes. The difficulties were caused by an essential security update to our website, which has had unexpected technical consequences, resulting in the inability to display the content of the Digital Programmes. Unfortunately, the issue is proving very challenging to fix but our Web Development Team expect to have the Digital Programmes re-instated by mid-November. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you.
  14. This was my experience the new Swan Lake....the only problem being the accumulating costs of repeat performances with Nunez and Takada! I suppose the risk is going to a first night that turns out to a bit disappointing e.g. what some feel about Hirano's Mayerling debut. It could mean further disappointment if it caused you then to miss what seem to have been much improved later performances.
  15. This poses is a bit of a dilemma for future ballets, when a new cast/pairing, or indeed a new production run, is coming up - whether to go for the excitement and novelity of the first night, or wait for things to bed in and go later on.
  16. Does anyone have other news of how yesterday's Schools Matinee went, with Takada as Mary, apart from a nice Bravo from McRae on Instagram?
  17. I am wondering too. It should be very soon, going by what appears to have been the case in previous years.
  18. Sorry if I misunderstood, I thought your original suggestion was rather different, that people today would tend not to want to know the story of a narrative ballet like Mayerling in advance as it would spoil the surprise, as with a TV drama or film.
  19. Well in the main surely that is true... you would not expect the BBC to continually keep repeating, say, The Bodyguard every other year, nor a film company to continually keep screening something like The Godfather every other year, in the same way that ballets are brought back time after time. Of course there may be some exceptions (Dads Army springs to mind) but those will tend to be cases (as with ballets, as I see it) where viewers are not then concerned about a plot surprise having being spoiled.
