  1. I remember from last year (DD did not get in!) it was nearly the whole 2 week wait. If you got a brown envelope it was a No! & a white one was a yes!!! Don't despair if you don't get it. It made me realise we needed to change ballet teacher & up DD lessons. She then got SWL for JA's. Got into YDA Associates & has really been enjoying that & we have just received a glowing report for DD. Currently just waiting to hear about LondonsChildren's Ballet Finals. My daughter is 9 older than yours. I am sure you will get in but it was the wake up call I needed than DD wanted to take this more seriously as she loves ballet so much. Truly believe if one door does not open for you then its not your door at this time.Disappointment & regection have truly driven my DD on & is now more motivated then ever. Looking back although sad at the time if she got into everything 'first time' I don't think she would realise how lucky she is or the commitment & motivated needed. Dancing seems full or highs & lows but when its your passion you just have to go with it. Think DD will maybe audition for Tring in 6 months time, think she wants to show that she has worked hard for 1 year to improve & can do it! (she probably still won't get in!!). We are so lucky there are just so many opportunities for them to give a go. But the waiting for results is the worst part.(For us more than them) Good Luck tropicmama & just remember she is still very little & great to have found something she loves
  2. Yes Good Luck to everyone. My daughter said it was really 'fun' you can't ask for more than that.(apart from to get in!!!)
  3. Well that sounds encouraging! my daughter is Year 5.She so wants to be a JA!! So tricky getting the balance right between hopes & dreams & being realistic.Did your DD enjoy the SS?
  4. What is this insight day?? do they do it in London??
  5. I know that would be so lovely & such a confidence boost for them to get to a final. What actually happens at the final??Do we get to watch?? its so hard waiting for the email!!Do you think we will get it after they have seen the other age group this Sunday?
  6. also whats the CG day!! my DD would one day like to audition for WL are there other things we should be doing? I know the chances will be zero, but you have got to dream. She made SWL for JA this year so going to try again next year.Any advice much appreciated.x
  7. whats the WL October course!!!! I sent my DD photos for SS but after reading all this sounds quite depressing!! Do you think they don't actually look at the photos! Took me ages to do those in our lounge!!!!
  8. We were in Group C & think about 10 were recalled. It was a lovely experience.
  9. Will JA auditions dates definitely clash with LCB rehearsals/performances?
  10. yes that's what we did, she did not say daughter was dreadful, that was my interpretation just she scored low on technique therefore we moved to a different teacher who offered more classes. Thanks for all the different stories.Food for thought
  11. Thanks for this. Think we will do the JA audition again next year & see what happens. Can you go from get SWL one year to actually getting in next year? It will feel so nerve wracking going back next year!!
  12. Thanks everyone this is so helpful. When she auditioned for RBS JA & speaking to other mums their kids seem to be doing much more & taking it more seriously. We are going to go again next year, just feels so scary! (love her so much!) We are quite late to the whole ballet thing but Since September she is doing a lot more classes & YDA associates at the weekend. We did audition for Tring last year & it went terribly.Think the lady is it Desire gave us some feedback & it was dreadful! she said her technique was rubbish!! (to be fair she was ill had gone to bed at 10pm after EYB performance & had to get up at 6am the next day for audition & was later diagnosed with ear infection!!) but that kind of prompted us to change dance teacher to improve her technique. But worried we have left it too late to claw it back! But then she got SWL so that was a good sign. She seems to have the right physique.Feel too scared to go back to Tring in all honesty.Think her previous school was more about fun that technique. She has done some festivals & has her first ballet solo in one next year. But just thinking about the auditions for all these schools does the child come up with a solo or will her teacher devise one for her.Just keep imagining you must have to have some amazing Billy Elliot moment in the audtion & be the most amazing person!! not sure she would be that good. & does she still have enough time to get her technique better. So the ones with funding would be what we would need to look at as realistically could not afford to send her. She is a clever girl (wants to be a doctor! but ballet is her love!) I was rubbish at sport so love the fact she enjoys it so much.I went to an academic school but was not great.Just feel it must be so amazing for these kids to do something they love. Generally also what is the time frame for all this.So I guess you send of application forms, then do auditions what time of year is all this?? She would be more than happy to stay away from home (escape her brothers!) Do you go & look at the schools before or just wait to see if you get in
  13. If you never get selected as a JA do you realistically stand any chance of making it to White Lodge!! How many children actually go in Year 7. If you have a child that would like to go to a ballet school what are your other options. Have heard of Elmurst & YDA not sure of any others. My daughter is currently Year 5 will be doing 11+ but deep downs has dreams of dancing. But just beginning to feel how realistic is this!! Are you meant to be the world's most amazing dancer when you audition for a Year 7 place or are they still looking for potential. Just seems like the completion is so stiff! Any advice much appreciated. She auditioned last year for JA place & made SWL & was only doing 1 ballet class then. We have since changed schools & she is doing more putting her heart & soul in as she is so determined, just don't want her to be too disappointed & fitting in all this 11+ stuff as well feels a lot. .Just not really sure what we should be conentrating on!
  14. I filled out the form for this & paid the fee which has come out of our bank but have not received an email.Does anyone know what date the email was sent? Many Thanks
  15. first session 17.09.16 think we were meant to pay the £30 by the 15.07.16 if this helps
  16. Thanks for all the help/advice much appreciated x
  17. I think they obviously would like daughter to stay. She does ballet, tap & modern there. But has just realised ballet is what she wants to focus on.She did an EYB audition & got some feedback that her technique could do with improving. So I found another ballet teacher & she did some extra lessons with her & its really helped. So now she has got the YDA place she just wants to stick with ballet with other teacher. Her current school has lovely teachers, is lots of fun, does great shows etc girls are lovely but just not sure daughter is progressing in ballet. But has done loads since being with other teaxher, just feel such a traitor as a close friend works at current school. But DD has probably unrealistic dreams of going to white lodge one day!!along with thousands or other people.Since she got SWL at RBS she seems more determined than ever so feel I have to give her best chance I suppose. I did not tell current school about seeing other teacher so now feel a bit guilty I suppose. I did ask current school for extra lessons before RBS audition but they said she did not need them as they are looking for potential. But at the EYB audition I saw how under prepared my DD was compared to others.1 ballet class a week did not seem to cut it!!! sorry for waffling on!
  18. My daughter has got a place on the Associates course starting in September. We have had to leave our current dance school as their lessons are only on a Saturday. I have told our dance school we are leaving & they said they had never even heard of YDA & they don't think it will be as good as I am hoping! Daughter got SWL for Royal this year she is 9 she really just wants to pursue ballet. I have found a local ballet teacher who can teach my daughter in the week & seems lovely. Feel bad leaving her current school & now they have said they actually have a ballet class in the week which is for Grade 3 plus but my daughter has only done Grade 1. also they offer Contemporary & Jazz which they want her to do so she can do YDA & stay. The other ballet lady I have found teaches a Russian method is an examiner & seems excellent quite old school but gets good results & girls seem to like her. Feel sad, awkward to be leaving our current school but feel if my daughter just wants to do ballet then YDA would be great for her. Anyone got any experience suggestions????
