  1. That's great to hear!! when did she get in, we got SWL last year, so this is our last year to try for JA.We are quite late to all this.We got an associates place a YDA so she has been loving that, but would like to try again this year.Have increased ballet lessons & she now goes to a different teacher as just wants to do ballet.I know next year she will want to audition for White Lodge but it all seems so scary & unlikely!
  2. Southerndance mum did your DD make JA's eventually?? well done to all the 'yes' decisions your kids must be over the moon, just to even experience white lodge at all!! & strongly believe you just have to keep perservering in this ballet world & all the 'no's' maybe a yes is their fate at another time.
  3. Had she ever tried for JA?? This is so exciting for you!! what a chance, your DD must have really stood out!!! WOW!
  4. Where are these classes held?? are they all based in Birmingham? & what day of the week/time are they usually on.Many Thanks
  5. just remember wasn't Darcey Bussell a No in Year 7.Just keep going. & TBG maybe your DD destiny lies at Elmhurst.everything happens for a reason (hard I know!) Hope your DD is OK
  6. Huge fingers crossed for you Hopeful!!! thanks for the reply. We are a late starter too. Really praying for your DD. Can anyone go to the prelim audition? Hope they put you out of your misery soon. Did you audition in London?? Are you trying for any other schools??
  7. What happens at the finals?? was the first audition just a class? do you then have to do a solo etc?? can I just ask how much ballet are your children doing a week? DD would like to audition next year. Are they all JA's??
  8. Good Luck to you all!!!!!! how many go through to the finals????
  9. Good news as that's what I put!! with 3 children there is really no way we could get to any other centre, although after getting SWL last year wonder whether I should have been driving to Southampton every Saturday!!!
  10. Thank you! wow that's a lot of applications. Was it March when people heard last year? wanted to book up some other summer courses for kids & just trying to plan!
  11. When did they say we would hear about SS? can not remember!! Many Thanks
  12. Random question. If you decide to go down the vocational training route do you need someone to sort of say that's what suits your child as they have a talent or do you just decide to put yourself through the auditions. DD loves dancing so much & is doing really well but do I talk to her teacher about it etc???
  13. My daughter goes to the YDA Associates in Shepherds Bush & is absolutely loving that.
  14. also looked on the weight/height guide. My daughter is 9 4'56'' & 69.5lbs which makes her too big & also too heavy even for an 11 year old which seems so hard to believe as there is literally no fat on her at all (unlike me!!) she is naturally so lean & slim & can eat whatever she wants must be all the dancing.cannot quite believe how small you have to be.If she was any slimmer for her height she would look ill.
  15. Perhaps we might wait this year. Her ballet teacher is excellent a lovely Russian lady. My daughter did not get the JA thing last year just SWL so maybe we will wait & see what happens this year & cross fingers for RBS SS.was your daughter a JA both times when she got the SS?
  16. I asked my DD teacher about doing a film for this to send off & she said chances of getting in are practically nil as harder than the Royal & they mainly take people who are already at vocational school is this correct??? she is 10 in April & surely not all 10 year olds are at secondary school yet? daughter got SWL for Year 5 JA's last year & has done Grade 1 & Grade 2 Distinction in both.Don't want to nag her teacher but feel you have 'to be in it to win it' I am sure she probably wouldn't get in but its only 36 Euros & surely you have to try these things!!!!!!!!!!!! Any positive stories of people getting in who are not at vocational school much appreciated!
  17. Well I braved it & asked her teacher who said her chances of getting in were nil!!! just because its even harder to get into than the Royal Ballet & the standard expected is really high!!!! & the people they choose are ones at vocational school. Is this true??? does anyone have any success stories of going to SS & only going to dance classes after school at the weekend? her teacher suggested Elmhurst but that seems to say you have to be 11 to apply & she is only 10 in April.
  18. Has anyone ever applied to do this?? My daughter has applied for RBS SS & thought this one would be an amazing opportunity. You have to include a video so will talk to her teacher. She is Year 5, 10 in April not on pointe but that all seems fine. Do you think you have to be the most amazing dancer ever?? She has done Grade 1 & Grade 2 Russian Ballet exams & got a distinction in both. She would be fine staying away from home but think its in school time or is this the most ridiculous idea ever!!! and a waste of more money to apply! You have to do pirouettes in the video she has only just started learning these so not sure how great she would be at that.but rest of the exercises look ok
  19. Did anyone watch this programme, was so lovely
  20. we also got a no!! DD is fine about it.I think I feel more sad.good luck to others x
  21. ahhh thanks for that!!! yes my daughter loved the audition!!! can cope with a 'no' just terrible at waiting. Maybe it will be Thursday then. Thanks for the info!!
