  1. All what applied for the girls, only, of course more broad shest and shoulders and strong back and arms(for later on). Also paid more attention on ballon (jumps) and pirouette. But due to less competitive level in boys, it's a bit more easy Also as for JA level - pure natural abilities/potencial 'row material' is enough as good proportions, flexibility in joints rather than stretched and, of course musicality / some artistry and love for dance.
  2. My best childhood friend was her pupil in the Upper school. And, however L.Sakharova was really strict in the studio, outside she was like a God mother to her students! She really cared and loved the girls as her own children! It was always a privilege to get picked up by her into her class for upper school years from lower schol, and students and parents were aware of it, and still prised and worshipped her. She was famous to craft a ballet stars, most of her students are principals around the world and her name is critically acclaimed in the ballet circles. Sometimes her graduates didn't even needed an auditions for the companies as the name of the teacher (and also she was a director of Perm Ballet School for many years) says it all! My friend, straight after graduation had several contracts worldwide as a soloist to start with. Sakharova was a grand master in her craft, polishing her 'diamonds' to sparkle for 200%. How more she was critical and angry to particular girls, how more those girls were loved and cared by her... The ones, who didn't received a lot of 'anger' were the less able ones (but this know only insiders).
  3. In old days, they (panel at Russian ballet schools) just 'scanned' with their very experienced eye the prospective students at the preliminary audition on a 1/3rd basic, where 2/3 must be leg line from the hip, but it wasn't just the length what is important, but the very 'architecture' of the leg (and feet), CURVE and length of a muscle, narrow knee and ankle, and, of course some degree of swayback... The same principles for the arms (elbow, wrist) sholder line to the fingertips and so on...
  4. Hi @dizzyballetmum, Maybe this week/ after Easter holidays we get our pack's as well. As you said, have to accept within a week. Indeed, very exciting
  5. Actually here (in England) are some very poised girls (and boys) as well at entry level. And I really mean it, as personally know some who can make it into Vaganova or Bolshoi school. It's more about what's happening after entry... Especially those very important first 5 years of training.
  6. This version is even more in depth, extended version of a documentary about the audition.
  7. Also here's a quite 'inside' of ballet audition process at Vaganova school. (and it's a lot more cruel than here in UK)
  8. Here it is https://youtu.be/WoI6knXkCeU
  9. I agree with @tabitha. If you already got offer for your 1st choice, then is better to give other children to have a last (for some) and only chance. We got 'yes' today for Wl and cancelled other audition, as Wl was our 1st choice, full stop. Congratulations for other yes'es. Don't give up for very talented DC with 'no'! And a lot of good luck for those who have further auditions!
  10. Well that explains it, the level of training and knowledge of the teacher. Probably she never done ballet herself.
  11. Good luck ???? today for all involved at RBS finals!
  12. It's very important that the teacher has a vocational training as a ballet dancer, then a teaching qualifications at high standards. And, of course, it's preferred that a ballet/Dance carriere on professional stage, but not necessarily a ballet/dance star or first soloist!
  13. My DS didn't liked ballet because his older sister is doing it!(and despite I was telling him it's something he can be good at from nature). He was 4 years old, as we were on the beach... Kids were playing, dancing, jumping, doing all kind of splits and stretches... So one couple (who watched them for a while) have approached me and said that it would be sin to not bring boy for a ballet lessons... They were ballet dancers as well. We had a nice chat, but my DS had listened to their advice (not mine!) So, he is at the start of his ballet path (as long as he enjoys it) stil very young, but we'll see.
  14. Huge congratulations vaganova_dancer!!! You most be very aspiring and talented young dancer! As I know, it's very tough, to study in Russian very highly acclaimed School, but it worth every bit and will pay you back in your professional future:)
  15. Sometimes a little surprise is when you least expect it, Pointeyourtoes (must be with a lot of natural potencial from birth - and it's a very good sign)
