  1. He’s not doing much and well within his capabilities, fear not. And he’s 11 now.
  2. It took me about three tries to get my elastics and ribbons right. Lots of variables and experiment.
  3. Yes. Well, does basic exercises at the barre mostly, though he’s annoyingly capable of walking around on pointe while I can’t even get over my box properly. 🙄
  4. When the 10 year old got pointe shoes the rule was that he was sewing them himself. Much easier to get children to learn when they're suitably motivated. (I can sew enough to do basic maintenance tasks and sort out pointe shoes, but it's not as if I was ever formally taught or would like anyone to look at my "handywork" close up.)
  5. We’re hardly regulars! She could have been having an off day, or maybe you just don’t get on with her as a teacher. I’ve known teachers who other people raved over that I couldn’t stand to be in the same room as.
  6. We've done a number of workshops and some classes with her when in London and she's always been good. Good exercises and lots of useful corrections. Never any privates though, so can't speak of them.
  7. That's not really a teacher-student relationship in the sense I'm thinking of, it's just a place you go for classes.
  8. I’d get a new teacher.
  9. I'd always inform their/our main teachers, and generally check their advice in advance. I'm not exactly asking permission, but I am giving them an opportunity to raise any issues they might have. I'd do the same with my main martial arts teachers too. If you don't value their opinion, why are you going to them in the first place?
  10. And Act 3 is a completely different ballet. Tighter, more coherent and much better story telling without all the what I assume is heavy handed allegory.
  11. Uh-huh. I can only assume this is either bad humour or some sort of performance art.
  12. Act 2 just finished: the dancing is wonderful, even if the dance isn’t always my favourite. I can’t shake the feeling of a Benny Hill/Monty Python vibe to the Romans that seems a bit heavy handed.
  13. You did start when you were young! 😂
  14. I’d say it was a very conscious choice to emphasise her raw strength - which most people have no idea of - as well as her grace. Especially given the context of the shoot.
  15. Search Engine Optimisation, I suspect. That's the name people are most likely to search for her under.
  16. Among the complaints are "why do they have visible breasts" and if you have seen the original costumes … I'd guess those freaking out are people who weren't going to see it anyway, but that won't stop the studio bosses panicking.
  17. It *is* a bit uncanny valley, but not terribly so. I suspect most of the complainants haven’t seen the original.
  18. If it doesn’t - and it would have to be reciprocal - I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s trouble when a huge number of British citizens with dual citizenship try to take advantage of free movement. Especially in the case of a bad tempered no deal exit, which is apparently becoming government policy.
  19. Asking the teacher is always a good option: I tend to hope these questions are asked here due to parental diffidence rather than because teachers won’t or can’t answer the question.
  20. Best to contact the RAD and ask, I think. I’d got the idea that they had stopped along with the adult workshops they were doing there but since they started associates in Belfast we ran up there instead of flying over. There’s no sign of them on a search, but that’s not necessarily a sign of anything much with the RAD.
