  2. Oh no, my hopes are dashed again ! Same time tomorrow then Dancing 10 ! Lol
  3. I really wish these upper school results for Tring etc would hurry up and arrive !
  4. Sorry to hear that Gollyrox, what date did your Ds audition ? Fingers crossed you get better news from Tring
  5. My Dd is auditioning for tring this month and is also worried about her solo, two of her friends are doing their ballet dance on pointe and she is not, , will this go against her ? Hate these auditions I can feel her nerves building already, she seems to fall apart with the pressure of them
  6. My resolution is stop feeling smug.. You know that feeling when your Dd does something in class better than everyone else and you smile inwardly to yourself with an air punch , and then pretend you never noticed when someone else says wow that was good. Oh how I'm laughing to myself here, that's made me sound sound wicked..but you all know I'm not really
  7. Sorry I meant for the audition what type of jazz pants to wear to the upper school audition ?
  8. Hi all My Dd has her tring upper school in a few weeks and wondered if anyone can help me with putting her mind at rest about the academic test. Is it just general maths and English questions ? Also I've been on line looking for jazz pants Ok I have found various styles and wondered which ones would I get Short type, long with a flare bottom, stirrups or footless ones all seemed to be classed as jazz pants What are your opinions ?
  9. I think the funding process is right, personally I think it should be ranked on talent rather than finances, don't get me wrong my Dd cannot go to upper school if successful without funding but would find it unfair if a less talented child was given priority due to finances,,just my opinion of course
  10. Thankyou Yorkshire, does that 40 at elmhurst include the current year 11's or do they do a separate audition do you know ?
  11. Does anyone know how many children they take through to finals of tring and elmhurst and approximately how many places at each ?
  12. Can anyone help me please about income declaration for dadas and what they take into consideration Eg If I earn say £40,000 a year which includes a £5000 car allowance ie I have a direct debit straight to the dealership as my company could not do it direct. So I never actually see the 5000 Do I put on the form I earn 40,000 or 35,000 ? Is it based on gross income, do they take your pension contribution into consideration or the fact I have other children ? Sorry for all the questions
  13. I've heard through the grapevine the results are out from last Tuesday , anyone heard ? Waiting for the post here !
  14. Hi all, well had a disappointing start to the audition rounds yesterday. Firstly as a man standing on my own it was great that other dancing moms took me under their wings and had a good chat to me. We were allowed to watch the final 10 mins of the audition and my little girl looked uncomfortable, I think nerves got the better of her. Don't think I was the only parent to feel like this after chatting afterwards it seemed a few thought their daughters had not performed great to get themselves noticed. There were some amazing dancers there and noticed there seemed to be a lot of RBS associates. She is very down and I'm not sure how to help. How do elmhurst pick for finals is it pretty much down to who performs on the day ? Do they take nerves Into consideration if her barre work and technicality is good ?
  15. I can relate to all of the above, not for myself but my poor wife, she has been in charge of form filling, photos, she is the one who is the taxi driver 6 days out of 7 with Dd commitments and is Also in charge of homework / revision . I have never seen her look so washed out ! This has been a good kick up the bum for me, I need to shoulder some of her burden
  16. Hi Anna Dd has applied for RBS, Elmhurst, Northern, Tring, BTUK, Central and Kate Simmonds Very worried about the schools she has applied for that does not have on site accommodation so to speak as I'm not sure how she would cope, which is another worry. She is my little girl after all and the thought of her leaving home and living in a shared flat and looking after herself fills me with dread ! The financial side of things are tough, we are middle class earners with 3 other children to consider, we would fit into the DaDa scale if she was lucky enough to get one but still have to find over 5000 pound a year which in itself would be just about doable now I've added up actually how much a year we spend already on classes, associates EYB etc, but it's the accommodation costs, I think Tring seems to be the most expensive but wherever she goes it has got to be at least a further 500 a month right ?.
  17. No matter how many times I do my sums , even with funding I simply cannot afford the accommodation fees for upper schools, I'm totally gutted and feel like I've let my DD down. I fact I have not even told her yet and we have already sent some upper school application forms off and have audition dates. How on earth am I going to tell her ? I feel like I've just been swept away with it all and buried my head for the past couple of years.
  18. Hi all I know there have been several questions about associate schemes and just wondered what people's thoughts are. In talking about RBS, Elmhurst , Tring BTUK, Central etc, does being in any of their associate schemes carry weight what so ever when it comes to auditioning for full time training ? Do they even take this into consideration do you think ? I mean you would say that a JA must have ' something ' to even be one so would therefore a JA get preference when it came to auditioning ? Not necessarily for the RBS but would Elmhurst say take this child more seriously ? The same applies for SA's and upper school. Or does it make no difference whatsoever ? Just interested on what other people though
  19. Hello it's me again Now for the tring solo does this need to be something magical that is made up by her teacher I'm thinking of costs here to be frank ie private lessons for this, Christmas is coming and all that ! Would it be frowned upon just to do a dance from the currant grade she is studying ie intermediate ? Would they think she has not bothered to put any effort in if she did?
  20. Thank you all so much for the replies, they are so helpful I had had to come clean to my Dd as she questioned how I had become such a ballet expert ! Errrr I muttered I joined a ballet form under the user name of Flexible Fred She is still howling now ! Ok I may be ' cuddly' and yes I am the most un flexible person in the world but stil.....no need for that much laughing ! Giggling myself now
  21. Hello my lovely lot, me again with further questions that you have all probably seen a million times Here goes How important are the quality of the photos for upper school ? Ie can I do them or would it need a professional ? Does Dd need to wear the same leotard for photos and auditions for continuity? Is black a no no colour ? Any advice on what sort of leotard, ie camisole / classical or does anything go ?
  22. I agree Celib As much as I want my DD to follow her dream and I fully support her, when you have 3 other children to consider a line has to be drawn. Does my Dd want more classes - yes she does Does she want private lessons ( because other girls are ) - yes she does Does she get them ... No The term ' It's not all about you ' is branded around quite often in our household !
  23. Taxi4ballet , definitely , I want her to be able to say she at least tried and gave it her best shot
