Our school still currently offers dance gcse and a level, it's getting more and more popular but my teacher was talking to us the other day about how it probably won't be offered for much longer which is a real shame!

I did a pre inter class before I started intermediate foundation, and it was just a slightly higher difficulty level than the graded syllabus, acted as an extra training session that focuses on technique before starting pointe work as well.

I love this question - makes me kinda wish my parents were as keen to learn about dance as you are - I think it's great that you have this attitude towards it. I recently purchased 'the ballet companion' by Eliza gaynor minden which is full of technique pointers etc so you might want to check that out. Good luck!

Hello, i applied for the tring park classical ballet associates a few weeks back, and was wondering if anyone had any DCs who have been on the course or auditioned and what it's like etc? Also any idea when I'll get anything back from the school regarding the audition? Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone had any info/experience about studying a dance degree at university rather than vocational schools -how they differ/where it can take you etc.

I think there are quite a few on dance direct that look rather nice and not as expensive as specially made ones

I think it's virtually impossible to tell which boxes an individual ticks, what's important is doing whatever you love and sticking with it if that's what you want to do, because there are always other options and pathways if one thing doesn't work out!

No not at all drdance! Just wanted to say that I wasn't expectigg a diagnosis or anything just curious if anyone had experienced something similar.

Yep I'm aware online diagnosis is not ideal I just wanted to get an idea, if the problem persists I will go see a specialist.

hello... not really sure if this is the right place to post this but i'm gonna go ahead and do it anyway. so lately i've had this thing with my foot where it basically seizes up a bit and i can't use it properly? for example, i was rehearsing one of my pointe dances the other day and there's a section where i come off pointe and do a step hop, and my foot basically gave way so i did a flat footed jump? and if i kneel down and sit on my heels for more than a few seconds, when i get up i find it really difficult to dance on one foot more so than the other, let alone dance, it feels a bit like it's trapped in one position? i'm not really sure if this makes a whole lot of sense or whether anyone knows what i'm talking about/has experienced the same thing but if so please let me know/give any advice you may have :/ if not feel free to ignore

big hugs to you and your DD! it may not be anything personal at all like body shape etc. if it is - then bodies change all the time especially at that young age and there are plenty of dancers out there that have been told they don't have the right physique and gone on to do great things. as she's only 11, it may be that she's just not ready yet, she still has years ahead of her and a lot can change in just a year so if she auditioned again next year it could go very differently! do not fret, she has plenty of time and if dance is something she definitely wants to pursue then there's no harm in pushing forward and seeing where you end up! your daughter is clearly very talented, she got a yes!! and she's a RBS JA - that's something not many can say! there will be plenty more opportunities for your dd, good luck to you both

I would love to do a ballet intensive because I never have before but I'm open to a variety of styles too! Think I'm going to apply to elmhurst and enbs ss but chances are slim of getting a place :/

This is kinda what's stopping me auditioning for ballet schools, my feet aren't great so I'm behind where I should be in pointe work and with the only practise I get being the Intermediate syllabus stuff every other week it's not looking great :/

very very happy that they're touring to milton keynes again, only just up the road from me and a great venue so shall definitely have to try and see those performances!!

I realise there's probably already a thread similar to this one but I was just wondering which summer intensives people are applying/have applied for this year? I want to do one but not sure which ones are still open for applications etc! Last year I did one at Hot House Dance which was brilliant so I totally recommend that one for anyone near the Hertfordshire area - we covered all kinds of styles/genres etc. Any advice/recommendations please??

I think the Freya bra suggested here would be ok but the straps are huge and wouldn't look great under a strappy leotard. My M&S bras fit ok they just provide next to no support and as I dance everyday at school I tend to just live in ugly thick strapped sports bras. This is the best one I've found so far which may be ok for under my show costume however it's not padded so doesn't give a particularly flattering finish: http://www2.next.co.uk/x557276s1#782149x55but I'm pleasantly surprised by this from Next, of all places. I had one for the show last year I think but one of the loops where the straps attached snapped so I had to return it. My only other complaint is that they don't seem to sell any bigger than a D cup in stores.

There are so many gorgeoussssss Leo's out there which I'm reluctant to buy because of bra issues ( I want a halter neck Leo desperately as I think those kind of necklines can be super flattering too! I've always been curious about how using tape actually works???

i find dance bras really unsupportive because they tend to be just bits of really thin lycra/nylon and have no underwire or anything! it's not comfortable to have everything flying about never mind it not looking great! and then you get that mono-boob thing going on... i completely agree sarahw! i kinda went with that statement for a while but then thought hang on, i love what i'm doing so why should i stop because i have boobs that weren't exactly my choice to have?!

I'm gonna try and go to m&s or even somewhere like bravissimo (though they can get v v expensive) during the week and see what i come across, really though my limit is about £30 which is so much for one single bra... i have obviously regular t-shirt/full cup everyday bras which fit me fine but don't in any way shape or form eliminate any bounce which isn't useful!

i thought it might've been but nothing comes up when i search 'bras'! :/ also dance direct i'm a bit reluctant to order their bras as chances are it won't be overly supportive and not sure what size to try as I'm only a 30/32 band size :/
