  1. Can anyone please recommend a good physio around the South Yorkshire/ Derbyshire are please?
  2. My DD would like to access some private lessons, particularly over summer when most dance schools shut down. Does anyone have any contacts they could pass on please? We would consider travelling a little
  3. Waiting list for us again this year!
  4. Checked my email from last year and it said 3.05pm
  5. I may be wrong but last year it was around 3pm UK time! I hope I am wrong though
  6. Hi, my DD is not blessed with the much sought after 'swaybacks'. In fact she almost has hypo-extended knees. Does anyone have any top tips that can help her straighten the back of her knees? Has anyone had experience of this and maybe further into their training and managed to achieve a straighter leg line? Or is this something she is blessed with for life?????
  7. I would say split as it allows the foot to show a better arch
  8. Not yet. However, they were quite late last year and I suspect there is some correlation between the first round auditions and summer school results but I could be wrong
  9. I am sure Hammond got outstanding too. I am news phobic, what allegations/convictions?
  10. Sugarpumpkin my DD was in exactly the same position last year and even though neither of us felt that way at the time, the no is what made her even more determined in the long run. It still hurts for her now, it certainly did hit her very hard watching all her close ballet friends get recalls, it changed her....but it made her stronger too. What she has now is a grit and determination that all those who got to finals didn't seem to have. She went into her next auditions and was awarded a place at another vocational school where she is as we speak. She did get another no at RBS, which again was tough. But all those who got finals didn't eventually get a place, just a small handful. Which to me seemed even harder. At least a no at this stage means you can draw a line under it and move on stronger than before. It never seems that way at the time but I am a big believer that everything happens for a reason. We don't always see it at the time but life has a way of working its path for us and we will end up exactly where we are meant to be in the end. What is important to remember is it isn't who gets a place now, it's who gets a job at 19. So much can happen between now and then, there are many more routes to that end. Onwards and upwards!x
  11. I am not that shallow!
  12. You are absolutely right, I won't be speaking to my DD directly but I will ask her about healthy choices
  13. I think you have totally mis-read my post. What I actually said was that my DD is slim. What I asked was is filling out normal or is it due to poor food choices? Not once did I say she was overweight so read it back before you mis-quote. I think there are far too many people out there who can't speak to their children about food, what constitutes a healthy diet, what constitutes a healthy body. I know so many parents who don't encourage a healthy diet and body and they run the risk of their children becoming overweight and the struggle of losing weight when they are older can be just as traumatic as an eating disorder. I am able to talk to my DD and encourage and open dialogue. I am honest with her as she is with me. I clearly don't say to her your bum looks bigger but I do encourage her to make the right choices. ALL sportsmen and women have to ensure they make the right choices in order to develop their bodies in the right way. I have not been in the dance world before and have not got an older daughter so simply do not know if this is normal or not
  14. I am a little worried my DD has large thighs and possibly put weight on since starting vocational. It's really hard to know what is acceptable and not? She always used to have slim legs (not skinny) but this past year they've got bigger along with her bottom! Her waistline is also bigger I'm sure. I'm not saying she has started to look anywhere near overweight (she's still slim) but I worry because I am not keeping an eye on what foods she eats, she's started making more unhealthy choices. She hasn't grown in height for almost a year now though
  15. Once they are filled they turn people away. As some of the JAs found out last year!
  16. My DD performed in this and thoroughly enjoyed every minute! She particularly loved being around the professional dancers and gained some invaluable insight. They were all so good with the children Ours was an 85mile round trip but to be honest we managed fine and she still went to school (just left early the odd few days). I have some special memories of our road trips, silly singing in the car, lots of great conversations and a real christmassy finish to the end of a lot of hard work We will both cherish that experience forever. The best piece of advise I can think of......take a blanket and pillow for the car!
  17. I would like to purchase some decorated pointe shoes for DDs bedroom. Does anyone have any ideas or have any please? I am not in any way artistic so there's no way I will be doing my own ;0)
  18. It's such a big step and such a young age. What I have told my DD when she feels apprehensive or worried is to stop, take a breath, close her eyes and think of all the amazing opportunities, friends and experiences she will have. It isn't about being the best in the class, or the best in the school. It's about being the best that YOU can be. All the children should be encouraged to realise that this is about their development and their journey. We believe in them, their dance teachers have believed in them and now the vocational schools believe in them. All that is left now is for them to believe in theirselves. Great inspirational books to pass on are micheala prince and misty Copeland.
  19. It has put my mind at ease that it seems that, with permission, they seem quite flexible. Sometimes I guess what it says in the rules isn't always set in stone if you are open about it and have good reason. I would only ever pick good quality intensives/ summer schools anyway. I think it would make me worry if I ever needed to approach them for auditioning for an alternative vocational school. Hopefully we will not have to even think about that!! I did notice the 'dangerous activities' section. There's no worries about my DD and roller coasters, the most dangerous ride I could ever get her on would be the teacups I'm sure! I am a little worried knowing that she has an adventure week coming up with her current school including zip wires over lakes, caving and high ropes!!!! But that's all part of the adventure of growing up and I would hate for her to ever think dancing held her back from experiences like that
