We had the same problem last year with my dd 's Drama teacher, who (even though he had never seen her dance) told her that she would not get into a dance school and if she missed one of his GCSE course rehearsals for a (final) audition he would not let her continue with the course! It is a very tough year for dancing children....we would not want to go through it again! Best of luck!

Royal Conservatoire Scotland Personal Statement

Yes, when my dd applied last year, she just filled one A4 sheet with her dance achievements and ambitions. I agree with taximom that the audition is the important part. Best of luck- 57 replies

Good luck to all students starting at Tring tomorrow! Hope you all have a great time! xx

Yes, I think it was that inexplicable 'likability' factor. We have seen it over and over at 'All England Dance' festivals! I thought it was amazing that a ballet act did this well in this sort of competition. Loved Shannon and Peter....amazing!

Which company sells soft pointes called 'Shoos'. Google just thinks that I've misspelt 'Shoes'. LOL Thanks

Ok, thanks. She may be doing A levels, anyway.

My husband rang the child benefit office about this. They told him that you can get child benefit if your child is doing a National Diploma including Trinity National diploma (The dance course at Tring Park).

I understand how you feel, Flutterby, my dd has had a couple of no's also. And it does feel very disheartening when you have travelled a long way. I also found that the amount of forms to fill in (and costly doctors certificates) that some schools require for finals is ridiculous. Most of that can wait until they offer a place. Very much agree with Kat09 that it will be difficult to secure a contract on graduation for most graduates. Glad that your dd has some offers, flutterby, as this year group is outstanding for ballet. Well done to all those with a place!- 54 replies

Can I add to my previous post that the Speirs Lock studio's are approx. 10 mins WALK from the Royal conservatoire campus. (We walked it) The accommodation was approx. 20 -25 mins walk to Speirs lock studios through the shopping area of Glasgow centre. But no tube trains or buses to contend with!- 54 replies

Oh dear! Sorry this has upset you flutterby. My dd who is NON-vocational was also offered a place after the prelim. audition. They were extremely discreet about it and called her back into when everyone the studio was leaving. We have also been very discreet about it as she felt awkward and didn't want to upset other girls auditioning. They said their reason for this was that the final auditions for RCS were late March and they didn't want to lose talented dancers to other vocational schools. I can understand this as RCS is very 'new' and cannot rely on 'reputation' to attract talented dancers as the established vocational schools can. Just wondering whether they offered in front of everyone or if you found out another way? I know another non-vocational applicant who was also offered in this way, so it wasn't just the RBS student that was offered on the day. However, I do agree with you that it's not a level playing field and my dd felt that she didn't stand a chance in some of the final auditions when applicants from vocational schools who have had 5 years training turned up en masse!! Her confidence in these auditions was very low! Good luck to your dd at the school she has chosen.- 54 replies

Hi Kat09, No sorry....only the information on line and the handout/information given at prelim. audition. I believe that this course only started in 2009, so is maybe not as well known as other schools. I would like to know more also.- 54 replies
