Ballet Theatre UK Christmas Carol tour
swanprincess replied to hfbrew's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
ahh, they've been rehearsing at the studio where I dance!! they took their lovely harlequin floor with them when they left this week to go on tour- i quite liked it, it was nicer to dance on than the wooden floor!!! oh well hopefully i'll go to see A Christmas Carol sometime soon! -
Is there a modern/jazz class for 6th form ballet auditions at Tring? If the auditionee has not studied modern, will this be taken into account?
-
In rehearsal yesterday at youth ballet, one of my pointe shoes repeatedly slipped off my heel, which drove me absolutely mad, as I kept having to yank it back on my foot without the teacher noticing... I have very narrow feet, and my shoes have elastics across the instep, any hints on stopping the heel from slipping?? Should I sew on a thin elastic that loops round my foot from the back of the shoe?
-
Yes, Aurora, I did find that quite odd- I probably wouldnt be allowed to attend for that reason.
-
oh i am sorry, silly me!! Just checked the Tring website again, and the dates etc for easter school are there!
-
ahh that's reasonable I guess! is that for a week?? (my non-dancing sister recently went on a school residential, so its about my turn to go away somewhere fun, hehe!!) I don't think the Easter course dates are on the webssite yet, which is why i asked.

thanks Hfbrew, I think i'll go for the Easter one, as ive just realised that the Christmas course is the week before school finishes- we dont finish until about the 22nd!!If you don't mind me asking, roughly how much does the Easter course cost?
-
Thanks for all the replies. What is the Easter course like in comparison? Due to finances, it would probably be either the Christmas course or the Easter one- although the Christmas one sounds lovely, it is quite expensive for only 2 days...

Hi, can anyone who has attended this course give me some info about it please? What standard were the classes etc? I am 15, and so is it mostly younger children who attend, or would there be other students my age? Obviously the £200 course fee is rather expensive, so I'd want the course to be challenging enough to not seem just like 'a bit of fun', if you know what I mean! Is anyone else's dd/ds thinking of applying this year? I'd love to meet some of you there, if I did decide to go!

aww your poor dd, Taxi!

Today's 'oh heck...' ; recieved the rehearsal schedule for a drama production i'm doing. Rehearsals for the next 6 months are every Monday-Thursday, with 4 consecutive Sunday rehearsals. I dance on Wednesday and Thursday, and do a youth ballet on Sundays... Oh and my soft pointes seem to have vanished off the face of the planet. grrr.

Sorry it's late but happy birthday, Anjuli!

Love Wicked & Les Mis! and am in a production of Miss Saigon early next year- probably my favourite musical because it's sooo powerful- I was getting emotional just reading the script! Id love to play Ellen, Now That Ive Seen Her is such a beautiful song to sing.

BRB SWAN LAKE - AUTUMN 2012
swanprincess replied to Jan McNulty's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Yes, I had the pleasure of chatting to Ruth last week at a youth ballet, she is really lovely, and a very fun teacher, too! -
What kind of things are assessed during the physio??
-
oh Anjuli that is beautiful- thankyou for sharing it!

For a giggle: Spellchecker vs. Fokine
swanprincess replied to toursenlair's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
ahh thats fabulous :-D courtesy of my spellchecker, my French teacher must think im utterly dreadful at spelling- it managed to slyly translate quite a few French words back to English on my homework, without me noticing... -
When I am not dancing, I particularly enjoy writing poetry, (most of which is about dance, but anyway...). A few months ago, a friend mentioned to me about the Poetry Rivals 2012 competition. So, after much deliberation, I sent off a poem, forgot all about it, and to my surprise, today recieved a letter to say that my poem was selected to be published!! I wrote it in sheer frustration at about midnight one night, after what seemed like hours of trying to get to sleep... It is midnight. I am alone. The world is silent. The world is sleeping. I am awake… A fiery dragon Bathes me in His heat. I kick off the Duvet. I am in the Arctic, Not a warm, cuddly Polarbear in sight. My heartbeat echoes Through the blackness. Beat. Beat. Beat. A relentless panther, It paces agitatedly. I. Can’t Sleep. Another sound. A tide ebbing and flowing With my pulse . The fan purrs, A spider cocoons Its helpless prey. The tiny, agile bee zips with ease, Metamorphosising Into a soft, Graceful butterfly, Her intricate wings Wafting heavily as My breathing slows. Outside my window, Fairies wings’waft, As their crowns Adorned with icicles Glitter in the moonlight. It is one-am. I am still alone. The world is anything But silent As the midnight orchestra Lulls me into dreamland… Anyone else enjoy writing poetry?

Im interested in attending the Enbs audition course- is the standard of the 'audition' class particularly high? And do you get to look around the school? Might hopefully see you there, pointytoes22!

How exciting!! My mum has forever been saying how she wishes i could do an Associate sheme in leicester rather than Birmingham or London because its so much closer- i' ll definitely apply (if it can fit in to my already packed schedule!!).
