  1. Yep, thats exactly what I was thinking, TheQuays!! i wouldve added you as a friendif i knew which SB you were, SBallerina!!! ;-)
  2. Aww how lovely, good luck!!! Angel, did your dd who is off to Hammond go to Opes summer school? Think i may have met her
  3. Wearing socks over the top, I work in mine at home (just basic barre- rises, releves etc) and that helps. I still use pliers to shove the needle through though!!! I find some pointe shoes are easier to darn than others- I did a pair of Suffolks in less than an hour, whereas my Capezio ones were really tough, and took much longer. Good luck!!!
  4. Just wondering, SBallerina, what are your initials? (so I can see who you are from the photos!) And thank you, Thequays
  5. There is a photo competition on the Bloch facebook page to win £500 worth of dancewear, in case anyone is interested. All you have to do is submit a photo in.a dance pose in Bloch dancewear. Not sure wether the closing date has passed yet, but they have put some photos up on their page- if you could vote for mine that would be fab! (Im sat in the splits in a black tutu!) Sorry if this is in the wrong forum/a bit irrelevant to "doing dance", moderators feel free to delete the thread if necessary.
  6. My little sister always refers to her calf muscles as her 'baby cows'- we were stretching together once, when she said "Stretch your cows." I of course understood what she meant, but my mum, mortified, screeched "Ellie!!!! That's horrible, you can't call your sister a cow!"
  7. My dance teacher (after a very long day of exam prep) once announced "Okay, battements developpes please"
  8. Hi, approximately how big is the piano? We are moving on September 2nd, and would love it, but there's just the small issue of collecting/storing it! x
  9. Can't think of any of my own right now, but I think it's fab when Posy Fossil (in Noel Streatfield's 'Ballet shoes') says "We did battlements again today, always battlements" to which Gum (I think!) replies "What funny words they use at your dancing!" She meant battements!
  10. Enjoy the Bolshoi, LinMM! I got my school blouses from New Look, as I am similar to your dd's: small frame and bust but long arms! Also, blouses from Asda are good- I think mine is age 11-12 (Im 16!) but it fits okay in the arms. I know its probably a cringey idea, but seeing as it is winter soon, are your dd's allowed to wear school cardigans- I was just thinking if a blouse fitted but was a bit short in the sleeves, a cardigan could conceal the sleeve problem!!!! Sorry if thats a really useless idea!
  11. Yes, I remember what you mean now :-) But my original question referred to how, after centre-barre, adage and pirouettes, everyone in the audition danced an allegro enchainement in groups of 4 or 5. (It was then after everyone had danced that the few being considered for scholarships were asked to dance again.) So, when everyone in the audition does the same enchainement; in smaller groups- is this always a petit allegro combination as opposed to an adage, for example? Hope this clarifies my question, sorry if I was unclear!
  12. Im hoping to audition in Nottingham too Dtadmin so may see you there!
  13. Hiya! Just incase anyone hadn't noticed, EYB have now published their future audition dates on their website: BELFAST Audition date: Sunday 17th November 2013 Audition Venue: On stage, Grand Opera House Ballet: Sleeping Beauty Performance dates: Friday 25th & Saturday 26th April 2014 NORWICH Audition date: Tuesday 19th November 2013 Audition Venue: Sprowston Community High School Ballet: Swan Lake Performance dates: Friday 7th & Saturday 8th March 2014 Auditions for 2014 BROMLEY Audition date: Tuesday 25th February 2014 Audition Venue: Churchill Theatre Ballet: Giselle Performance dates: Friday 15th & Saturday 16th August 2014 STOCKPORT Audition date: Tuesday 11th March 2014 Audition Venue: Plaza Theatre, on stage Ballet: Coppelia Performance dates: Friday 13th & Saturday 14th June 2014 NOTTINGHAM Audition date: Monday 17th March 2014 Audition Venue: Theatre Royal Ballet: The Nutcracker Performance dates: Friday 25th & Saturday 26th July 2014 WOLVERHAMPTON Audition date: Monday 2nd June 2014 Audition Venue: Grand Theatre Ballet: Sleeping Beauty Performance dates: Friday 19th & Saturday 20th September 2014 CRAWLEY Audition date: Tuesday 24th June 2014 Audition Venue: Hawth Theatre Ballet: Coppelia Performance dates: Friday 24th & Saturday 25th October 2014 Just a question on the subject of EYB auditions too- when I auditioned in Wolverhampton last year, although we did do a whole ballet class for the audition, 2 enchainements were shown in smaller groups. Both of these were petit allegro: one sur place, with sautes, echappes etc, and a travelling enchainement of glissades, petits jetes and assembles. These enchainements seemed really like the only opportunity to be 'noticed' as opposed to the rest of the audition where all 150 auditionees danced at the same time. So, if anyone else has auditioned at different venues, is it always the petit allegro that is shown in groups of 4 or 5 dancers at a time? Because petit allegro most definitely is one of my weaker elements, and so if the main 'decision making' is based upon that, i might decide to leave it this time with regards to auditioning!!! Thanks, hope I've made some sense!!
  14. Dancetaximum it was £175, so quite pricey but definitely worth it!
  15. Best of luck to everyone attending, hope you have an amazing week xxx
  16. Hi all! Is anyone doing the MTB Summer School next week??
  17. That video was lovely, Pastel! her pointework is particularly gorgeous :-)
  18. Aww, sorry to hear that! How old is your dd? I believe Northern Ballet are still accepting applications for their age 10-14 summer course, which is August 27-30th. So are Midland Theatre Ballet, August 5-7th. I think the deadline for MIDAS summer school has recently passed, but they may still accept an application, not sure about that one but hopefully someone else will be able to advise you further good luck! Edited for spelling
  19. Thankyou everyone that has given me a lot to think about :-) Yes Anjuli, I have read that book, and know what you mean. I trained (recreationally) in gymnastics from a very young age, so I suppose I always instinctively thought that the more flexible, the better, but understand now that turnout is more vital. I will show the photos to my teacher and see what she thinks :-)
  20. I was practicing the positions required for vocational school application photos, and noticed that on my developpe to 2nd, when my left leg is extended above shoulder height, my ribcage juts out to the right, and vice versa. Is this inevitable/ acceptable, or would it be considered a sign of bad technique? Sorry if it makes no sense!!! Edited for spelling
  21. Anyone else going to Opes? I am :-) and did your dd do MTB last year, Pas de Chat? I did so just wondering wether I know her x
  22. If it were me I'd put them in the washing mashine- it works with canvas so shouldnt hurt leather shoes! Maybe spray a bit of perfune in them too, or (sorry I know thiz idea seems very odd and random) sprinkle a little bit of dried lavender or put a lavender filled pouch in the shoes when she isnt wearing them?? Havent tried this personally but it just occured to me that it may work!
  23. Sorry to hear Gailene Stock is ill!! Anyone know why?? Christopher Powney certainly has a lot to live up to; I've never seen him dance but think he will be fab for RBS :-)
  24. When you have no 16th birthday party because your parents are skint already with summer school fees!! I didnt want a party anyway :-D
