  1. Let us know what you think of this course. My daughter was offered this during its first year but turned it down due to other comitments.
  2. I thought he had great potential. I really enjoyed his dancing. I wonder where he trains?
  3. Where did the UK students choose to go?
  4. I am sure he will be able to adapt his style to that of RB company. I think he has taken class with them on quite a few occassions before the competition so is known to the director.
  5. What a shame that the posts seem to have a negative twist about the companies having to take him. He is an excellent dancer and a worthy winner.
  6. Well I can say that it is not the Russian way to degrade students by calling them fat. How awful for the silly owner to say that it is.
  7. Julian McKay off to Royal Ballet. Proves that British companies do want Russian trained dancers. This was my little bit of news I was sitting on. Well done Julian. 17 years of age and a place in one of the best companies in the world.
  8. No you dont get this type of behaviour from parents or students at vocational schools. It would not be tollerated. Parents are only ever around to either drop/collect students, parents evening or watch shows.
  9. Pastoral care can make or break a dancer. A student needs excellent training aswell as excellent nurturing pastrol care.
  10. I have to say that my daughters experience of other Russian training in Bristol was outstanding. They were more about being positive and giving lots of praise whilst having high expectations of the student. They were very positive about other vocational schools infact they have both guest tutored at RBS and ENBS schools. Russian teaching is usually hands on but my daughters legs were never smacked at either school. Bristol I would say never pushed the body too far regarding turn out and elevation but managed to get the body to reach its potential.
  11. My daughter did some lessons here a number of years ago. I have to say that the male teacher was an excellent teacher and really does get the best out of the students my daughter made a lot of progress with him. A lot of students at this time would do Royal Ballet Associates and then come across to this school. His English is far from perfect but I could understand him perfectly. The owner is not a teacher and does say some odd things. In answer to your question about learning other methods of course you can. None of the professional companies follow any syllabus.
  12. Kids will be kids. Have to say that the food at Tring is exceptional.
  13. Elizabeth Hill in St Helens has an excellent reputation.
  14. Where do you live? Bristol Russian Ballet school is excellent. If you live nearer London then you have The Russian ballet school in Clapham again very good. They also do a specific stretching class.
  15. As to regards to Royal Ballet and Russian trained dancers I would say watch this space and that is all I will say on the subject.
  16. There is always hope for children on the reserve list. Hammond do indeed offer very generous bursaries. We turned down my dds MDS several years ago as she was better off with the schools own funding. My sister did exactly the same thing with her dd a year later. I am going back 8 years ago so the generous bursary might not be as generous any more.
  17. Hammond in Chester, Elmhurst in Birmingham. Royal Ballet School London. Young Dancers Academy London.
  18. I would wait until the final auditions are over and fingers crossed offers are made. I would then base my decisions on that. All of the vocational schools offer great training. In my opinion it is harder to get into Elmhurst than it is for the other two. That is not to say that it is better.
  19. Success is when the dancer is actually happy with what they have achieved.
  20. Darcy Bussell springs to mind. She did not enter White Lodge until year 8 and age 13. Your dd is still very young and is still developing. She clearly is talented as you have mentioned she is a ja with I presume the Royal Ballet. I know so many girls who entered vocational schools at a later date who were very sucessful. Good luck with the offer your dd already has.
  21. Another big plus about festivals is that many friendships are made amongst the dancers from all the different schools.
  22. Its been quite a few years since we did festivals including All England. I used to find that the same children were placed in the first four 90% of the time year after year. Fortunately my dd was one of them. These kids were good dancers but so were others and I felt that it was the childs reputation that grabbed the adjudicators interest which maybe caused them to look closer. As I have said above, that these dancers were good, but I did feel uncomfortable at times but if I am honest glad when my dd got her medals.
  23. Try not to take festivals too seriously. If your child has done the best she can then that is to be celebrated. Who the judges choose as medal winners are their choice on the day for various reasons, it does not always mean they are better dancers. Festivals in my opinion are a time to enjoy watching your child perform on stage. If they get a medal then great but far more important is that they enjoy the experience.
  24. My dd auditioned at Central a few years ago. Our experience was very positive. The admin staff on the desk were busy but helpful. At the final audition whilst my dd was having physio I was invited in and was given a running commentry of what she was doing. I remember it being very crowded in the hallways with there being so many parents and auditionees. The staff made space to accomodate us in the library where we were able to read some of the fab books there
