I don’t expect that management fully understands that, even for a triple bill of this kind, casting is crucial where some sectors of the audience are concerned. However, I think we should go with the flow on this one, especially since it is months away and there is unlikely to be a rush for tickets. The Cast A, Cast B, Cast C idea has potential, though.

RB Nutcracker Dec/Jan 23/24

Soooo sorry to have James' situation confirmed. Many dancers at the moment seem to be beset with pesky injuries which simply will not go away. Please recover soon, James. You are one of those very special artists which the RB audience needs to have on stage as much as possible.- 697 replies

Please would someone be so kind as to report on the number of snowflakes? Fingers crossed for a flurry rather than a sprinkle. -

Casting is online for today's General Rehearsal. I can't seem to be able to cut and paste but it's the Hayward/Campbell/Tsembenhoi/Rovero/Avis cast. -
Jonathan Lo is well below one’s sight line. There are one or two conductors who raise their rostrum but it’s generally not a problem.

How to stop filming/photos during performances
capybara replied to Garnier's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
Authoritative! That’s exactly what I meant. The announcements are gabbled through as if they are of no consequence. -

The problem is though @RobR, that some audience members are being prevented from enjoying performances (for which they have paid heavily) while others carry on behaving as they fancy “in their personal space”. And current measures to address the problem aren’t working. No one has suggested banning curtain call photos (or rehearsal ones). -

The announcements at the beginning are nowhere near strident enough. Giving that message out twice would be a start. Then, much as it would be a case of cutting off our noses to spite our faces, I think that dancers should be under strict instructions NOT to post any clips taken during a live performance on their IG accounts. (What happens abroad is a different matter but, surely, an agreement to enforce this rule among the UK’s major companies would be a start.) -

A few years back who was the preferred Rose Fairy became quite a ‘thing’ on here. IIRC, Yasmine Naghdi was the ‘winner’ by a mile. It was all in good fun, of course, because choosing was well nigh impossible. -

It’s difficult to know where best to post this as there is also a general casting thread running. However ……. Isabella Gasparini has posted on IG that her Rose Fairy dates are the 7th Dec eve; 9th Dec eve; and 12th Dec (cinema relay). -
The Dante Project, Royal Ballet Autumn 2023

That's just plain ignorance. It surely doesn't matter who produced it, it has gone out on the ROH's IG account; therefore full responsibility rests with them. -

…. described as a PRINCIPLE dancer. And this is from a team where the ability to write is key. Don’t they ever check these things? -

Daichi and Viola both became Artists in 2022, although Daichi was a year ahead (having had an extra year as an AJ YD due to the pandemic). Since he was promoted to First Artist this year, his casting as Hans Peter is hardly surprising. Nice pairing. -
Ballets that have aged badly

One of the reasons this ballet doesn’t work is that the masks obscure facial expressions. -

English National Ballet casting thread 2023/24
capybara replied to alison's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
The revised casting, most of which appears related to Frola’s withdrawal 😢, was notified to Friends last week with a note to say that the news would be promulgated more widely. I expected something formal to issue imminently and this, combined with the number of changes, made me decide against doing my own list for BCF.- 191 replies
