  1. Unfortunately, although it does offer a great opportunity for a younger dancer and there would seem to be some obvious candidates for debuts. I mentioned Nicol Edmunds up thread as he debuted with Claire Calvert in the last run.
  2. All the good reviews for NB are very well-deserved. This was a case of The Linbury being the perfect venue for small scale classically based works. Bravo to NB! And well done also for producing informative folded programme notes which gave all the information one needed for £2.00.
  3. Yes - it was. I converted it to WORD but some of the resulting spacing remained resolutely wonky. In the end, I decided that it would be a bonus for World Ballet Day for everyone to see the list, whatever the layout. (I did go back to the original to check that I had not lost the ‘missing’ dancers in the conversion!)
  4. It’s nice if leaving the announcement of some casts until later means that injured/“off” dancers might be scheduled for later. No complaint but I do find the doubling up of two male Principals a bit strange when First Soloists are not being used. HOWEVER - Calvert/Edmonds in June anyone? Maybe it would feel too soon to publish replacements for Nutcracker and Manon.
  5. Not wishing to diminish Harrison’s dancing in any way (I agree he looked great); but, surely, he would have been a cover and, therefore, learning/marking the role for some time. Either way, I’m glad he has his opportunity.
  6. I don’t think that we are privy to all the many issues which come into play in relation to casting.
  7. I can see the11th May matinee selling out rather quickly 😁
  8. But she’s in the 11th year of her career which started at BRB and, arguably, her first promotion in the RB (2021) was delayed by COVID. I think she’s danced the white Swan pdd in galas?
  9. Lamb is listed for three shows with Hirano. The June dates probably fall into the Summer Booking period.
  10. Not listed on the sheet I have. Perhaps a typographical error in the case of Osipova/Clarke?
  11. I should have put the word casting in the title (perhaps a Mod could do that, please?). But here is what we've been waiting for. 12. Thanks @Ondine Yes, that is what's on the website. However, I don't recall Tonga's move from being Emerging Choreographer (for 2 years) to Choreographer in Residence actually being announced. And the way in which the position was mentioned by Alexander Campbell made it sound as if it was something relatively new.
  13. Nor me but it's a £1.00 for a month. I think it's a code. But not sure how that differs from the Subscribe for Free offer which comes up automatically on the ROH website.
  14. So Joseph Tonga has now been appointed Choreographer in Residence and the interview with him was all about bringing in 'different voices'. He's a hip-hop man by trade. Has the desire of the RB to be inclusive gone too far? I thought it was a Classical Ballet Company.
  15. David Hallberg seems to be creating an RB in Australia!!! Edited to add: Well, not the current RB but one with the kind of RB rep. many of us on here would like to see
  16. Denis Rodkin is a principal of the Bolshoi Ballet. He was often first cast when the Company toured here, including Spartacus IIRC.
  17. I haven’t received the offer either @bridiem What is it about some of us which consistently puts us out of the frame? Are we on the ‘naughty step’? 😂
  18. @Henry , if you look at Luca’s Instagram account , you will see that the length of his hair varies considerably. If it is long at the moment the hair people probably wanted to stop it flopping all over the place. Matthew Ball was given curls as well. Unfortunately, the Forum has no influence whatsoever in relation to any ballet company.
  19. Agree - and I would never buy a seat there myself. But the ROH’s perception seems to be that seats in that kind of area are ‘the best’. The cynic in me is saying good luck to the family which wins the Nutcracker outing and finds that any children in the party can’t see a thing.
  20. It's always difficult on the Forum to follow extremely enthusiastic reviews; but here goes........in relation to the Oct 28th Matinee. I shall see tonight's cast on the 11th Nov. Firstly, the debuts: Calvin Richardson (I think this was his first performance in the role?) strutted and danced with great style as Espada; he fully maintained his character during his 'off action business' while never attracting attention away from the leads - unlike some increasingly annoying 'extras' who are over-participating in the action to the detriment of the whole. Leo Dixon, in his fifth role on this DQ run (only three of them named on the cast sheets) was an energetic half of the Gypsy Couple - maybe, next time, we could be treated to a show where this talented, eye-catching Soloist also essays the Don, Lorenzo and Gamache (I jest, of course). Secondly, the artist I have not seen previously in the secondary role he took this afternoon: Liam Boswell was, for me, the best, most believable of the new, young bunch of Sancho Panzas: he, in common the Laura Day who danced the role so memorably for BRB, understands that it takes more than a fat suit to help a young person move as an older one and that there is no need for exaggerated gestures and facial expressions. Thirdly plaudits to those whose portrayals, while becoming familiar, are still growing before our eyes: James Hay who is simply F-A-B-U-L-O-U-S and totally lovable as Gamache. What a star! Leticia Dias whose alluring Mercedes has developed in both interpretation and technical aplomb since her debut Last but not least, Kitri and Basilio: Mayara Magri, whose debut this was meant to be, had already danced Kitri twice with Marcelino Sambe this October. I thought she was terrific in the role: a warm and spirited character who met every challenge the role throws a ballerina's way. However, although one can't help but like him (and I do - a lot), I have the same reservations about Matthew Ball's dancing as I had when he performed with Yasmine Naghdi. Parts of his solos appeared (for want a of better word) a little 'lumpy' and, while he nailed those tricky overhead lifts to perfection, some of his 'lower level' partnering could be a little smoother and executed with a less worried expression on his face. I see that the question is being posed as to whether the fact that Magri and Ball are partners in real life made a difference. Opinions are bound to differ widely on this point. While there was the occasional fond glance during the performance and real affection at the end, the partnership between Ball and Naghdi earlier in the run worked better as a Kitri/Basilio double act for me.
  21. Around Row J of the Orchestra Stalls, I think, given that they mention stalls seats.
  22. It did list Masciari. This afternoon’s cast sheet had Leo Dixon down for Gypsy King and Lead Fandango. But, then, he appeared as the lead Ruffian, thus making the Fandango appearance impossible.
  23. Yes. I think they also test lighting levels, dancers’ make-up etc.
