  1. He’s an itinerant freelancer now whereas Lee and Haw are ENB company members. That probably makes a difference in terms of accepting gala invitations.
  2. Lee and Haw are dancing abroad tonight so they’re obviously not injured. It must be, as @FionaM suggests, that an earlier version of the poster has been used in error.
  3. Just a reminder that the evening show tomorrow (Sat 3rd Feb) is at 7.00pm.
  4. But there was a great story waiting to be told here of three British RBS contemporaries debuting together in a ballet celebrating its 50th Year. That should have been in the mind of the ROH’s media team in its interaction with the press. Instead, the opportunity was missed (again) to shine a light on the current generation of RB stars.
  5. I half suspected this very welcome programming. Given that BRB and the RB have the same governing committee, it does rather suggest that ‘political’ sensitivites (if any) lie within the overarching ROH and/or that Fille doesn’t fit with KOH’s (apparently primary) desire to modernise the RB’s rep. Anyway, WE’VE GOT IT NOW and it will sit very nicely on the BRB dancers.
  6. Magri's agent has listed the Osipova/Clarke dates for her as Mistress. Really hoping to get a repeat of the RBS-trained 'super-team' as Manon/Des Grieux/Mistress/Lescaut on Saturday. When one thinks of it, it's really 'quite something' for three winners of Young British Dancer of the Year (WB 2008; YN 2009; AROS 2011) to be headlining one show (and having debuted together).
  7. I know. I asked specifically about the MacMillan but received a portmanteau answer!
  8. I’ve had a reply. The casting for the MacMillan and Ashton programmes together with The Winter’s Tale and the remaining Swan Lakes “is awaited”. However, fingers crossed that it will all emerge soon as the RB is now back from its mid season break.
  9. The comments from others have really helped me to appreciate this piece more. I should have gone for a second viewing today! A Dramaturg could, at minimum, have provided a valuable ‘second pair of eyes’, especially in Act 2 where some pruning might have been helpful (I lost my way at this point and that has never happened before when the riveting Alina is dancing). Congratulations to Alina for this bold and innovative venture and for giving us the joy of having her on stage in London again. Just one other thought although it’s too late to say it really …. I wonder whether acworkroom was the wisest choice of name for Alina’s production company in terms of ‘public’ perception generally or, indeed, the story which was being told this time.
  10. Thank you @Blossom for giving us the Links today. Much appreciated.
  11. I wonder whether anyone else is experiencing ‘mixed feelings’ about this and other recent appointments? As just two examples, Cesar Morales and Leanne Benjamin have given me so much pleasure from their dancing over the years - both of them in multiple companies - that it’s kind of sad that they are now moving on even though we wish them the very best in their ‘new’ careers.
  12. Tonight’s show ended at 9.45pm. I think the interval lasted longer than 25 mins. Many critics in attendance so quite a few ‘official’ reviews will emerge. I personally feel the need to process what I saw before trying to write on here.
  13. The former head of Northern Ballet David Nixon has been appointed Artistic Producer of Cape Town City Ballet with immediate effect. An ‘interesting’ job title which implies a management structure somewhat different from the norm. His wife, Yoko Ichino, is joining him there.
  14. Good to see the participation of choreographers and dancers from other companies.
  15. Alina has responded to a message from me on IG: Act 1 = 45 mins; interval = 25 mins; Act 2 = 50 mins. So 2 hours in all plus applause.
  16. Please does anyone know the actual running time for La Strada? The SW website says 2 hours 35 mins, the official poster (see Shen Yun thread on here) says 1 hour 45mins.
  17. Maybe time for the vision of having ENBS and the company co-located at City Island to be realised?
  18. My wishes (which apply mainly to the RB) are: - that (most casts) get three performances in a narrative or classical run in order to be able to develop their roles, reward their efforts and provide more flexibility for their audiences; (if an up-and-coming First Soloist has to wait a little longer for a debut, so be it); - that the RB in particular demonstrates to the outside world (and I mean world) that it has BIG STARS whose artistry is at least on a level with international artists whom people seem to be more ready to laud; (this might mean diminishing the publicity currently afforded (eg) Nunez and Osipova but it’s high time that the reservoir of top talent the RB has in the 30 - 35 age range is celebrated and promoted) - that ‘new agendas’ are not so dominant as to deprive future audiences of historic jewels or skew the overall shape of a season etc.; in this connection that ‘residencies’ (choreographers etc) are re-thought to open up creative opportunities In setting down the above, I recognise the challenge each represents, but they must be met if the Company is to continue to thrive.
  19. I have twice tried to engage Shen Yun leafleteers in conversation about them and their show but the language barrier seemed insurmountable. My subsequent reading of the background online put paid to any thoughts I might have had of seeing them. Now I am just irritated by them always being in the way when one exits to the ROH or the Coli. That along with the dangerously strewn piles of rental bikes immediately outside the ROH entrance.
  20. I feel very privileged to have been in the audience for the final performance of ENB’s wonderful run which seems to have gone from strength to strength. Katja Kaniukova just was Giselle and everyone else on stage found interpretative and technical gears to match her. Bravo to the Company as a whole a total of 52 shows altogether at the Coliseum. Phew!
  21. I didn’t want to interrupt the reviews by referring to the situation with the flowers (or, rather, their absence); but, since others have……. I felt really disappointed for the dancers as being surrounded by bouquets is part of the ballet tradition, especially for debuts. But there would also have been fans who would have appreciated seeing their tributes presented and having, perhaps, a personalised photographic record from a simply wonderful night. I did wonder whether the single armful of white roses might have had something to do with the ballet’s anniversary but, alas, the departure from the norm was borne of inexcusable inefficiency. (‘Proper’ comment to follow - maybe after 3rd Feb. because there is so much to try to do justice to and I’ve booked for Giselle this afternoon!)
  22. This move is not surprising as Cesar has obviously been preparing for his transition away from performing for some time. Best wishes to him in his return ‘home’.
