  1. I saw the company last summer at Aspendos theatre in Turkey. This is a ancient roman city. The theatre is open air and very big. They danced swan lake and it was beautiful. My dds violin teacher was playing that night.Fantastic when you watch and listen to the music and then look up into the night full of stars on a lovely warm evening.
  2. Does that mean that bigger than normal ballet boobs are ok for training because they can have a boob job!!
  3. This might sound strange question but what happens if a girl grows medium or biggish breasts?would this be a problem for them for a ballet proffession.I havent seen any ballet dancer with average size breasts, they all seem to be very small.Would schools class this as not the right physique?
  4. yes,you always see dancers stretching before class and doing splits, out of the studio and in coridoors!
  5. My dds ballet teacher was ill and someone came into cover for one lesson. She started with stretching and before the barre she made all the girls one by one stand facing against the wall in second, they were holding on to two handles. They had to plie as far down as they could while she held their bodies flat against the wall. The girls couldnt go all the way down to grande plie apart from my dd with ease and she was finished straight away .They looked very uncomfortable!what was the point of this?It looked like it was very bad for their knees.Im glad she wont be teaching my dd again! Has anybody else seen strange excersizes and wondered why would they do that!!
  6. At my dds dance school the older girls buy bloch pointes from Germany which have swade bits on the end already built in and on the inside there is also gel built in.Can you get them in the UK?
  7. It wasent my dds ballet teacher!!! But unfortunatly here in Turkey the teachers have very strange views about ballet training and when i state my opinion they think im a interfering parent and i dont have a clue about ballet!! Lucky though,at most the dance schools they have t.v. to watch the class and i do get to watch my dds class in the studio when i want as i work there,so i always keep a check.
  8. A ballet teacher told me yesterday that ballet dancers look better with small feet no bigger than a UK size 5, and bigger feet are more difficult to dance with!!She is Russian so maybe thats what she was taught.Does it matter if the foot is big for both reasons? She also said that she likes to start pointe at 10 so the feet dont grow big!!!! i thought that was strange!!! i did shrink my feet a size by wearing 1 size smaller as i didnt want big feet when i was young,i know its bad but i was a silly teenager but it did work!
  9. I would defiantly consider France if my dd made it into one of the schools.Afab,I would love to know more information about schools for year 7 if they take students at that age.xxx
  10. At our school there is breakfast lunch and then snack,no packed lunch allowed or sweets or tuck. The food is very healthy and the kids have no other choice.
  11. I would give up everything for my kids and give them my last penny no matter if they made it or not in whatever they wanted to do,thats just the way i am.They are not spoilt in anyway, but when it comes to training, hobbies and education i would give them the world.I am also lucky to have the time to be involved in their hobbies and homework and all my kids hate it if i cant watch or help them.
  12. Schools might be doing this but its best to be on the safe side and teach your kids yourself, after all, nobody cares for your child like you do!
  13. I think it would be very boring for her to continue with g5 for 6 months let alone 2 years if she already does it well.I think it would be much better to do a different modern class and then come back to it when the exam will happen, but thats just my opinion.
  14. Is there many that cant go on pointe because of the anatomical design?
  15. just wondering what would happen if say in the last year of GCSEs you couldnt pay any of the contribution!! would the school ask you to leave or would they try and help?
  16. So i guess they should have fun and enjoy in the younger years and then by 16+ if they dont get into any vocational school start to think about dancing for just a hobby. But saying that i started dancing when i was 16 and at 19 i got into 4 vocational scools!!But as i said in a post before i did lie about my age!! haha
  17. I have travelled and lived in different countries, it has been fantastic and i am so glad to have experienced it.It definatly changes you and makes you see the world differently.I would highly recomend it expecally for students.I would definatly consider training abroad for my dd when the time comes.
  18. Do you think that we should encourage other options along with dance.?My dd loves dance first, but also loves musical theatre, playing the violin and loves learning languages. She is still very young and can already speak 5 languages and i think that the last one would probably secure a good career, but i am really stuck as to which one to encourage the most.If you ask her she says a ballet dancer but if she is not good enough then any of the others.Im just worried as to how long we will have to wait to see if she can make it as a ballet dancer as she is also good at the others things that also need nurturing.
  19. Just wondered when is it time to be realistic about a career in dance? Is it when you dont get into any vocational school at 16?Is it when your teacher tells you?How about if your parent tells you?Its very sad really as most train for years and at what point can you tell if its not going to work out as a proffession?
  20. When girls start pointe for the first time how long should it be for in each lesson and how long before the classes increase.
  21. My dds turn now!Not dance but tomorrow she has been chosen to do a violin recital with some of the best young viloinist in Turkey.Cant wait!
  22. Just wondering roughly how many students do they accept for year 7,and do they do all the same classes together or are they at different levels? thank you.
  23. Do they give scholarships of any sort for the dance course for those that dont qualify for MDS?I know they do for the Theatre course. My dd has been out of the country for more than 2 years and dosent qualify.
  24. hope you enjoyed your evening, and congratulations for the success of your ds.xxxx
