  1. It dosent matter which handed you are.Proffesional dancers should be able to dance or turn both sides. In class both sides are equally practiced.Thats not saying dancers dont prefer a certain side or are better at one side. I am left handed at everything but when i use to dance everything seemed equal to me.
  2. At end of the day you either have it or you dont regardless of how your parents are. I find it very sad that this is a worry for everyone.
  3. Im the same as afab. We dont qualify for MDS ect so we couldnt even be offered a funding audition.I think maybe we could get a scholarship. Im sure the school has to keep up a good reputation and everyone does have to audition. And yes the best students get the funding, thats the way it has always been,so they will be better than the rest. I did phone one the schools and told them that i might be coming back to the UK,they said my dd could audition any time and join straight away!I I think they assumed i was a full paying customer!!!
  4. it has been on tv in Canada before, also some other countries, but mainly showing at film festivals.I have followed it on fb for a while. They say they will sell dvds soon.
  5. Living in Turkey i started to look at the history of Tukish Ballet. There is a very nice short clip of how Ninette de Valois started ballet here. I never realized how many Turkish students that have trained at the RB!I have met 1 of her students who she took to the RB and she teaches here in Antalya, and there is more i know of in Antayla including the 1st and only twins,i think, that trained at the RB. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/world_news_today/9451489.stm Hope you enjoy xxx
  6. I still think my dd works better in her split soles.she has a high arched foot but not to much and her ancle joint is very loose with quite strong feet for her age,but i have just been thinking about pointe shoes!they have a full sole,so maybe it would be better to stick to full soled or am i thinking to much.
  7. I had the same when i was dancing years ago.It was a mixture of not eating enough or not the right food, not enough water, anemia and my blood sugar level would drop after this. This is definatly not normal but nothing to worry about. She must get check up asap so you can get to the bottom of it,and then she will be back to normal and feel great.
  8. It must be very difficult for the schools when looking at the year 7s.Because there are not many places available they must take alot into account.I would think that most 10 year olds are in proportion expecially those that have kept fit.I think it must be more on how your body is suited for ballet, turnout, feet, all the important things that make a ballet dancer. This has nothing to do with parents. When do they get to look at the parents? Wouldnt it be funny if they asked for the same audition photos from the parents.
  9. Any chance of some clips of the performance?would be so nice to see.xxx
  10. Sorry, but have to say,im the same size i was at 16 and im 38 now, never think about weight and have always eaten what i want, and after having each of my 3 kids i was back in my jeans straight away.My mum is the same and had 7 kids!I dont even know how much i weigh.
  11. works for me.Good luck in raising funds i would love to buy some of the bears, xxxxx
  12. My Russian friends told me that if you whistle or make a loud noise it means they didn't like it and it's rude!I know so many Russians and they never do this at performances.
  13. I would be a brilliant director of a school or a company! I have never looked at anyones weight and thought they were to big or to small ect.It would be purely on the way they danced.I would probably have the best dancers in the world! I have never dieted or even thought about my wieght and dont really know where my dd gets this idea from at such a young age.
  14. my dd who is only 9 already has a problem. She constantly thinks she is to fat.She is very petit and small boned but has a little pop belly. In her ballet class she is the smallest and to me looks like a typical ballet dancer. She gets very upset because she finds it so hard to pull up and create a flat stomach through out the lesson. It dosent matter what i say she still thinks she is fat.I must admit im starting to get a bit worried!
  15. your dd could always catch up on her homework on a long journey like that. And if you dont do it,what would you be doing?I think it would be the jorney home that would be hard, but then you might find others that take some of the same route as you.
  16. My dd is also a shorty!!At the moment she is tiny.If she audtioned for year 7 would this be a problem! She is 9 and only 4ft 2.
  17. My son is 13 and 8 months and only 4ft 10.Recently this has been a big talking point in my house. My younger son is also very small for his height. They are always blaming me because im only 5ft 1.Im not to worried at the momment as it seems in my family and my dds family that the boys start to shoot up around 14 .My dd is 5ft 10 and i done the test online and it says both of them will be 5ft 8/9.
  18. My dd does have a mega bendy back but has no problem with her posture in her ballet class.
  19. I also agree about gymnastics, but im sure i read somewhere that WL students do some gymnastics classes.I wounder what they do in that lesson?Does anybody know?
  20. Just wondering which other dance styles can help ballet. For example Latin, ballroom, gymnastics. My dd is starting Latin today and her brother has agreed to be her partner! He wasent to happy but she bribed him and he finally agreed to go.They are only 9 and 10.
  21. spoken with my dad and there would be room for September. He lives in a beautiful area.If anyone is interested pm me.xxx
  22. Interested parent, funny enough my dad does rent 2 rooms out but they are already taken. But i can always ask when they are leaving. He lives by the Angle tube station.
  23. That was so sweet.I also think that not many parents can be bothered to take their children to ballets or for lessons.Such a shame.
  24. I think it must be luck! my mum lives in Birmingham and my dad lives in Central London and more family near Tring! So if my dd wants and of course if she gets gets in when she is older we wont have the problem of accomodation.
  25. maybe people could sell their old/outgrown tutu on the forum somehow?
