  1. Fabulous two casts for "The Invitation" = buying an extra ticket now!
  2. Looking forward to interesting opportunities offered next Season not only to Miss Hayward but also to other outstanding soloists such as Miss Naghdi, Miss Stix Brunell and Fumi Kaneko, and for the upcoming young Matthew Ball, Reece Clark and Marcelino Sambe!
  3. http://www.spectator.co.uk/2016/04/a-new-dance-in-which-race-definitely-matters-ballet-blacks-triple-bill-reviewed/ That's what the Ballet critic Ismene Brown said so too about Miss Naghdi (in her second last paragraph), it's not only us the audience! As DaveM said, many of us who have seen her debut as Juliet just relived her amazing performance, that's all. We only got to see her in 1 Matinee and many appreciated the opportunity, including myself, to seeing her again, albeit 5 minutes on a very cramped stage, having to adjust her steps and ensuring she didn't fall into the audience
  4. I watched it again this morning and it made me realise on what a small stage they had to dance "big"...not an easy feat I can imagine. Watching Yasmine Naghdi dance so close-up I felt as if she was "dancing and speaking" through her arms, so poetic! Ball is just too gorgeous for words, those two are a ballet couple made in heaven and I honestly can't wait to see them together on the Covent Garden stage very soon. I also very much enjoyed BRB's Tyrone Singleton and Elisha Willis. It was a great idea to couple Ballet & Shakespeare.Surprised ENB didn't participate?
  5. Could not have been easy for Matthew Ball and Yasmine Naghdi to adapt their steps from dancing R&J on the Covent Garden stage to that small stage but they were brilliant and made me relive their incredibly moving debut. I really hope Mr O'Hare pairs them up again next Season. The whole show was simply amazing, British culture at its best. BRB dancers, ENO singers,...what a great publicity for Ballet and Opera, and Shakespeare of course. Oh, and well done BBC2!
  6. Wasn't that just the most brilliant show! Well done BBC2 and all artists involved. Such a prestigious line up of superb actors, RB dancers, ENO singers, and BRB. The best show I have seen on TV in ages.
  7. So there will be a 1pm live-stream showing Lauren Cuthbertson and Edward Watson in rehearsal it seems. Also this on ROH website: http://www.roh.org.uk/news/shakespeare-insights-live-streamed-from-royal-opera-house-on-23-april-2016
  8. There is a small group of outstanding Soloists at the RB I love watching but I agree with SIM, Yasmine Naghdi, and also Stix-Brunell, are the all-round stand-out Soloists who in my opinion deserve promotion to First Soloist. I also love Kaneko but I don't feel she is ready yet to go up a rank. Certainly Ball to Soloist, and some of the very young Artists to First Artists. Magri also impressed this Season
  9. Oh how wonderful. I just can't wait to see Naghdi's Juliet and Ball's Romeo again!!! Recorder will be on for sure
  10. ...and Ismene Brown in The Spectator today (in 2nd last paragraph) thinks so too! http://www.spectator.co.uk/2016/04/a-new-dance-in-which-race-definitely-matters-ballet-blacks-triple-bill-reviewed/
  11. I have never been fortunate enough to see all the great RB dancers of the past. Of the current crop of ballerinas I very much like: Sofiane Sylve and Yuan Yuan Tan who really left their mark on me when SFB danced at Sadler's Wells. At ENB: Shiori Kase, Ksenia Ovsyanick, Rojo, Cojocaru and Summerscales. At BRB: Momoko Hirata and Maureya Lebowitz I mainly watch The Royal Ballet nowadays and give me Marianela Nunez (and Vadim Muntagirov!) any time! I very much love Yasmine Naghdi and Fumi Kaneko for their beautiful classical line, clean strong technic and great stage presence (Matthew Ball and Reece Clarke are my favourite young males). I also appreciate Francesca Hayward. There are of course other female dancers I love watching but these are the stand-out RB dancers for me.
  12. Just a very brief comment from me: I went to the Matinee and Akane was dancing with Thiago Soares. This partnership didn't do it for me, they had no chemistry but Akane danced beautifully.
  13. Prince of the Pagodas: I deeply dislike it - and all those talented dancers having to act like monkeys, such a sad sight! Different Drummer Gloria Anything by Liam Scarlett, except his Asphodel Meadows. McGregor's Raven Girl and Life Fire Exercise Acosta's Carmen Wheeldon's Alice in Wonderland and Strapless
  14. I fully agree, a missed opportunity there , it would have been another highlight in the RB Season. When I saw Naghdi dance Zulme I could really see her as Giselle. I do hope next Season will bring us some more joy seeing more of her in notable roles!
  15. I watched Saturday's Matinee and the Corps ladies deserve much credit. They were truly stunning and the stars of Giselle! I am afraid Miss Salenko doesn't do it for me as a Giselle, her technic is as is expected when one is a Principal but she leaves me totally cold, I don't "feel" her when she performs, she doesn't exude any emotions, she had several stumbles and it seemed as if she wasn't able to finish certain steps. There are dancers in the Soloist/FirstSoloist rank who'd be capable of dancing Giselle with much more emotion, finesse, and with greater acting skills. Steven McRae was fabulous. I also thought Emma McGuire and Yasmine Naghdi were really good as Myrthe's Assistants, Naghdi in particular looked very authoritative and threatening. Maybe I have seen too many other good casts.
  16. Wow wow wow NAGHDI and HAYWARD!!!! What a duo, what an amazing synchronisation these two dancers have, they danced as one and I can't wait to see them again. That pas de six is simply unforgettable, Sambe and Acre were equally impressive. Heap was a superb Myrthe, tentative in the beginning but she grew into the role. Golding was better in Act 2 and I really liked him. Sarah Lamb danced beautifully too, not my favourite Giselle but all credit to her. The Corps deserves a mention too, they were wonderful. I wish all the dancers a well-deserved mid-Season break, they have given me much pleasure since the beginning of the Season.
  17. Having read all those enthusiastic posts above, I am getting myself to Birmingham too! Two Pigeons: "This is not a xenophobic point but I think it should be appreciated how many British dancers get real opportunities at BRB. This point was made in an article in the Dancing Times a couple of months ago where four male dancers, including Xander Parish, all of whom had had to find their success away from Britain were interviewed". I'd say this is also happening at the RB where British dancers such as Hay, Ball, Clarke, Naghdi, Hayward, O'Sullivan (sorry if I forgot one) are getting great opportunities to develop their career, it's no longer the "prerogative" of the foreign trained dancers joining the company! ENB still seems to relay on numerous foreign dancers, except a few.
  18. Wheeldon used four soloists (Maguire, Naghdi, Harrod and Hinkis) for his Can-Can cafe scene but gave them little or no dancing (yes, waving their skirt, basically messing around in the bar). What a waste of their talent! Wheeldon could have, as Timmie said, given them a solo or a great pd2 or pd3 to further develop the "Parisian" nightlife scene. He could have used young Corps dancers instead and use those soloists in a Pd2 or 3, giving us indeed a reason to clap our hands.
  19. Nothing to do with arrogance... but with many other issues.
  20. They were all superb, I really enjoyed the Matinee. Re. the "Corps" in Rhapsody: they are in fact all soloists and the six females and males were magnificent! I agree with Sim, Ball/Brunell were lovely in Two Pigeons but I kept wondering how the Ball/Naghdi partnership would have looked like. The company right now has several glorious young dancers and they all need to be nurtured of course. Let's hope there is more in store next Season for Ball/Naghdi to develop their partnership. More and more I find myself booking tickets to see the superb younger dancers instead of selecting a performance based on which Principal is dancing. I greatly enjoy following the career of the younger soloists and several first artists; it's rather dull at the top (with a few exceptions of course).
  21. I'd LOVE to see La Bayadere back in the RB rep. I enjoy some of their Contemporary pieces but after all it is pure Classical dancing I am most in love with and I'd certainly go see Kaneko and Naghdi as Nikiya! Somehow I can't imagine Hayward in this role (however good she is in Rhapsody and Manon), and Nunez of course!
  22. I am so thrilled Laura Morera won the category "Best Female Classical". She doesn't normally get the credit she so deserves, her performances have given me much pleasure, her Lise and Gypsy were out of this world. Delighted for Matthew Ball and William Bracewell too. Congrats to all the deserving winners.
