  1. Sim, you've summed it all up so beautifully, I couldn't add anything more... What we witnessed yesterday was something really really special, and this on the 50th anniversary of Kenneth McMillan! It's been years since I've last experienced such deep emotions at an RB performance, and certainly at a R&J performance. http://www.theguardian.com/stage/gallery/2015/oct/02/royal-ballet-romeo-and-juliet-50-years-of-star-crossed-dancers-in-pictures
  2. I am still so emotional after attending today's Matinee with Naghdi/Ball. I can't remember the last time I've cried whilst watching R&J. Weren't they just absolutely breathtaking. Their Balcony pdd blew me away; the cheers when the curtains came down after Act1 said it all. They were out of this world, what a partnership. Naghdi simply made me forget she was dancing, her acting was amazing. She WAS Juliet. I really hope Mr. O'Hare will nurture their partnership, they are a Covent Garden couple to treasure. Naghdi's dancing was so liquid, so fluid, so beautiful. Ball, for such a young dancer, was very impressive. Her hand just touching Romeo...and then slowly letting go off his hand as she dies filled my eyes with tears. Oh how I wish they had another performance, I'd dearly love to watch it all over again. And all those flowers...they kept coming and coming. Well, the House was buzzing to say the least.
  3. Handsome Matthew Ball looks very cheeky in the first photo... I wonder what he was telling his Juliet...
  4. Graham Spicer certainly got them talking... and lovely photos too of the young pair. http://www.gramilano.com/2015/10/the-royal-ballets-new-star-crossed-lovers-yasmine-naghdi-and-matthew-ball/
  5. 23rd October is Hayward's debut but she has already danced R&J at a Family Matinee in September. It seems that all three dancers who'll have their debut in R&J will have had "warm-up" performances before their official debut
  6. I fully agree Aileen, that coach was working the poor chap too hard imo. The first time I saw Matthew Ball on stage I felt he looked like Polunin too, but Ball is far more handsome!
  7. I found it interesting to read how both Naghdi and Ball have credited Johan Kobborg as an influence.
  8. Yes the photo occupied a rather large portion of the page! ...and there is also Graham Spicer's interview with Ball and Naghdi. http://www.gramilano.com/2015/10/matthew-ball-the-royal-ballets-prince-in-waiting/#comments http://www.gramilano.com/2015/09/yasmine-naghdi-the-birth-of-a-ballerina/
  9. Aileen, yes the comment sounds a bit direct but the gentleman is only expressing his own feeling/thought isn't he. He only suggests, and some people are more passionate than others...
  10. Every show I have seen this week was danced with great enthusiasm by all the dancers!
  11. I am so sorry Sim, my apologies. I was totally unaware of the discussion on the previous page.
  12. Sergei Polunin is injured and not dancing SB at La Scala http://www.gramilano.com/2015/09/sergei-polunin-injured-and-will-not-dance-with-zakharova-in-sleeping-beauty/
  13. Aren't we all tired of hearing about "snobbery and elitism in ballet" when clearly so much is being done by the ROH and other organisations to be inclusive and non-elitist. Just look at last Saturday's Family R&J performance at ROH, and all the activities they organise for children and their families attending a performance for the first time, and also tomorrow's R&J School Performance! Which other company in the world puts in so much effort giving the less privileged access to Ballet, Opera and various Educational programs? Mr. Eric Underwood seems to have no concrete ideas himself and keeps singing the same old song, whilst modelling high-end luxury brands.
  14. As fine a technician Sarah Lamb is I am skipping her Juliet too and I am sticking to Cuthbertson/Bonelli, Naghdi/Ball and Hayward/Golding. Lamb (except as Manon) has never moved me. I always enjoy Cuthbertson's Juliet, and no doubt I'll enjoy Hayward/Golding and Naghdi/Ball too. I've come across a review of the General on here: https://katchkadeemtheatre.wordpress.com/2015/09/18/the-royal-ballets-romeo-and-juliet-50th-anniversary/
  15. Indeed, I don't see any problem with positive comments and it is only reasonable and fair not to comment on dancers choosing to mark their performance during a General. I echo EllenC's comment that we are in for an absolute treat on 3rd October. Anyone wishing to see the RB's two new Juliet's will be in for a real treat but the pairing of Matthew Ball and Yasmine Naghdi makes them the ideal new R&J couple. Ms. Naghdi really surpassed my highest expectation after seeing her performance in Onegin. She was simply sublime as Juliet. If this was the couple's first performance... well I can't wait to see them again on 3rd October!
  16. Very sad for all of us who have spent money on tickets to see her. Seems rather serious to me if she has to pull out for the whole of the Autumn Season.
  17. If you are going to see the Royal Ballet's R&J for the first time and want to see established Principals: Osipova is a big name ballerina but her shows are already sold out. I prefer Cuthbertson to Nunez in the role of Juliet too. Nunez is a fabulous ballerina but, as barton22 says, not so much in the dramatic acting roles. If you are a regular (but seeing R&J for the first time): Naghdi (partnered with Ball) and Hayward (partnered with Golding) are both making their debut as Juliet. The partnership Naghdi/Ball is particularly worth seeing but their show is sold out too.
  18. I assume that was back in early August, when the interview took place. Surely Mr. Golding was back in good time to rehearse
  19. Has it been announced yet which cast will be dancing the R&J General next week?
  20. http://www.redcross.org.uk/Get-involved/Events/Challenge-and-social-events/Social-events/Dance-Power-2015 Paco Pena! I've booked my ticket I wonder who will be the dancers of The Royal Ballet.
