Marion Tait tells of the wisdom of dancers keeping their mouths closed as they thread through the seat, directly under a bird.

Elmhurst School performance running time
Marg S replied to Marg S's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Many thanks -
Can anyone who has been at Birmingham Rep tonight tell me the running time of Elmhurst school end of year performance?

Faced with this in the Nutcracker two years ago I told the offender to stop. She did! I think that if your enjoyment is being affected you are entitled to step in.

Dame Gillian Lynne on BBC breakfast
Marg S replied to Stirrups36's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I was fortunate enough to hear Dame Gillian speak to a group in Birmingham last Tuesday. It was 6 in the evening, she had been rehearsing all day + giving interviews and all whilst competing with building noise. She was funny, warm, very informative and interesting and charming enough to give me an autograph for a stage struck (especially Phantom) young man of my acquaintance. My friend and I counted ourselves so lucky to have had this special evening.- 7 replies

The Very First Ballet You Have Ever Seen...
Marg S replied to mimi66's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I was taken , age 6,by my mother, to see Swan Lake at Nottm Theatre Royal. Not sure of the company but that started a lifetime of loving ballet. Going with my mother, with friends and my own daughter once she reached 6. Now I take her daughter who,at 11, is aveteran of 5 BRB Nutcrackers! ABW in two years time it will be 70 years since that first Swan Lake. -
And very good he was in Nutcracker last Tuesday, as one of the four Winds and the Arabian Dance.. Not sure if this was his first appearance with BRB but first time that I had seen him.

Ballet in the cinema 2013-2014
Marg S replied to jmhopton's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Hello Nottsballetlover They show behind the scenes rehearsals, interviews with dancers and on one occasion (The Nutcracker) the mechanics of the Christmas tree growing. Always really interesting. One tip. We have learned to get to the cinema in plenty of time as they tend to be very well supported. I saw Don Q last Saturday .Loved it, so enjoy! Margaret (ex West Bridgford)- 104 replies

We throw flowers too! It was very emotional tonight at Birmingham Hippodrome as the audience stood to say goodbye and thankyou to Ambra Vallo and Vicky Marr ,both dancing for the final time on their home stage and retiring at the end of the season after giving years of joy to B.R.B. audiences across the UK and abroad. They both, as always, gave us fabulous performances, Ambra as Giselle and Vicky as Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis and they could have had no doubt how their audience felt. There were a lot of moist eyes. including mine and I am so glad that I was there to be part of it. Thank you both

BRB ALADDIN SPRING 2013
Marg S replied to Jan McNulty's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
How I like that ! Could not agree more and the enthusiasm runs right through the Company, those of stage as well as on. -
I would certainly agree with Janet's comment re ROH. BUT 99% of my ballet watching is with BRB and I freely admit that I am defensive about my "home " company (as discussed recently on another thread) but I am sufficiently involved to know something of the efforts that have been and are being made to obtain "non public" money. Of course the old work has to be done, it puts bums on seats. However for several years, BRB have run the Directors Appeal, from which all the money goes to fund new work. Since 2009 we have had David Bintley's E=mc2 and, more recently, Faster, both funded from this scheme Two years ago we had the new Bintley full length production Cinderella totally funded with non public money and next month we will see his new Aladdin, so far only seen in Japan. Last season we also saw Jessica Lang's new short ballet Lyric pieces . That scheme is a drop in the ocean of the efforts being made to obtain "private" money. I have heard David Bintley stress more than once the importance of new work as the life blood of the company and for me, recent examples have been vibrant. I agree with the comments about our system of taxation. And I understand the practical politics but the enormous efforts being made, out of London, should be celebrated. Rant over!

Does anyone know whether we will, eventually, have the photos and notes about the dancers as on the previous web site?
