RB casting - Spring 2016
greypuss replied to bangorballetboy's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
Liam Scarlett shares some thoughts on his new production in the San Francisco section of World Ballet Day. It's at approximately 3 hours in. Sorry I cannot provide the link. -
I was very shocked when I heard about the booing of Roberta Marquez, she was wonderful when I saw her this week in her scheduled performance. I cheered extra loud!

RB Alice casting changes
greypuss replied to John Mallinson's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
I just assumed that it may have been an injury that affects lifting, as the Mad Hatter doesn't do any partnering, rather than one which affects the legs or feet.I'm sure one of the articles about the RB trip to Brazil mentioned an injury to McRae. -
RB Alice casting changes

I tried to post these changes at lunchtime but it all went a bit pear-shaped! I agree it's very confusing, I'm surprised that McRae is still listed as the Mad hatter though, I suppose it depends on the injury. -
sorry, meant to say they are replaced by Choe and Campbell on the 12th Feb.

just noticed this, browsing the ROH site, Cojocaru and McRae are no longer listed as dancing voices of spring pdd on the opening night of the mixed bill. They are still listed for 21st.

What an interesting topic, and one i was thinking about the other night as i was watching Youtube. I think my answer would be ,it depends on what they are dancing.I have always thought that the royal ballet give their best performances in dramatic works and that,s why i like them.I accept that the technical standard of dancing may not be as high as other leading companies but their characterisation is better.

The Royal Ballet - Swan Lake, October 2012
greypuss replied to zxDaveM's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I found them by accident by clicking on the news link on the roh site which brings up your reaction to swan lake in cinemas, click on that and they are on that page. ENJOY! -
I saw this production in Nottingham yesterday. I really enjoyed the show, I always find northern ballet's productions a feast for the eyes, the costumes, sets and ligthing were superb. I saw Javier Torres/Ayana Kanda cast and I agree with Janet that they made an exellant pairing. I was sat next to some very proud relations of the three year old little girl playing Butterfly's son.

yes, they do tend to be out of the town centre but most have free parking so are great if like me you live in the country with no evening bus service.- 184 replies

Ballet in the cinema - 2012-13 season
greypuss replied to alison's topic in Ballet / Dance news & information
showcase cinemas charge £12.50 for ballet shows, at least for the royal ballet they do. Bye the way whilst booking some tickets today I noticed they are doing some encore performances of the RB live shows at the weekends I think, can`t remember the dates , this is certainly more family friendly than the mid week shows.- 184 replies

Royal Ballet, La Fille mal gardée, 2012
greypuss replied to alison's topic in Performances seen & general discussions
I,m glad you and your friend enjoyed fille, re steven`s showing off I do agree a little. I tend to think he sometimes gets caught up in the music and the moment. On wednesday night I felt he went into hyper drive ,feeding off the adrenelin no doubt ! I agree he will settle down but there seems to be so little opportunity to show what he can really do he seizes the moment.I thought steven gave a very mature performance of romeo earlier this year perfectly in character so I know he can do it.- 86 replies
