foot problem?

hello... not really sure if this is the right place to post this but i'm gonna go ahead and do it anyway.

so lately i've had this thing with my foot where it basically seizes up a bit and i can't use it properly? for example, i was rehearsing one of my pointe dances the other day and there's a section where i come off pointe and do a step hop, and my foot basically gave way so i did a flat footed jump?

and if i kneel down and sit on my heels for more than a few seconds, when i get up i find it really difficult to dance on one foot more so than the other, let alone dance, it feels a bit like it's trapped in one position?

i'm not really sure if this makes a whole lot of sense or whether anyone knows what i'm talking about/has experienced the same thing but if so please let me know/give any advice you may have :/ if not feel free to ignore ;)

I have tenchillies itas or something like that! It causes the side of my heel to hurt, and stops me from pointing my toe properly! I find I can't go on pointe when it's bad! Maybe you have something similar! It's usually worse when I've been doing a lot of ballet

could it be ankle tenosynovitis? I don't even know if that exists but I read your description as you having the same problem with your ankle that I get in my hands - called trigger finger which is a form of tenosynovitis where the joints literally lock up.  I have no medical knowledge at all and know next to nothing about ballet so might not be helping you in the slightest but worth looking up.

I've no idea what specifically would be causing those problems sorry, but they definitely sound like symptoms to take seriously. It certainly seems like your body is sending you a message that something is amiss and I second Janet's advice of a visit to a good physio.

Hope you get it sorted out soon.

It's usually inflammation that causes the pain, but definately get it checked out by a good sports physio, as there are very similar symptoms in the most of the joints. Tenosynovitis if I remember is inflammation of the sheath that hold the tendons, as I had a problem with it a few years ago.

Always get it checked out by a good dance or sports physiotherapist or in this case a podiatrist with specialisms for sports or dance would also be helpful. If you are near London, Birmingham or Bath there are also specialist dance clinics free on the NHS via NIDMS. No-one online can diagnose an injury or condition without a full assessment.

Would encourage you to follow Dr dance's advice about the specialist dance NHS clinics in London and Birmingham. dancers need to show that these NHS facilities are needed so don't see a sports therapist but a dance specialist!!

I agree with other posters - you really need to see a specialist as soon as you can, rather than wait to see if it continues or gets any worse. It might be better to get checked out sooner rather than later, as continuing to dance with an injury is likely to do more harm than good.
