rainbowmagic Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 My small-busted daughter needs a strapless/multiway bra to wear under her leotard/tutus but I'm having trouble finding one small enough that isn't going to cost me the earth! Any ideas?
angel Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Depends on what you mean by the earth…Calvin Klein do a very good one but it is about £40
angel Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Actually, I bought dc's in Covent Garden. Have just found one online for £23
Picturesinthefirelight Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 What does she measure around her ribcage & over bust?
rainbowmagic Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Bless her she only measures up as a 30A cup so I'm struggling to find one small enough for her.
Picturesinthefirelight Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 How old is she? 30 band is quite big for a teen, I'm only 32. And if she's a true A cup then I wouldn't have thought she needed a bra at all underneath a leotard. Does she measure 30 inches around the ribcage with the tape measure pulled quite tight or did you add inches to the measurement. Or was she fitted at somewhere like M & S? They add 4 inches to the band size which means that most people who they say are 30 A are really 26 C/D Which doesn't make your life any easier as that size is very hard to find.
rainbowmagic Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 She doesn't need one for all her leotards - however, she currently has a very pale tutu with a leotard which is quite see through, so like most 12/13 year olds she is very self-conscious when wearing it (you can see a lot through it). She measures up as 28.5A but wears a very soft 30A bra which she finds very comfortable. I need to try to find her one before the weekend so will keep looking.
Luckyshoes Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Hi my daughter has no bust but needed / wanted a strapless bra i brought the smallest size 32A which I thought would bury her , but to my surprise fitted really well and not to much gap at the top...£ 6 , might be worth a try just search under multiway bras
Picturesinthefirelight Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 My dd is 13 & wears a 28 C. (28" underbust & 31" overbust". I know what you mean about being self conscious. So far dd manages by only wearing lined leotards. I've had a search & can't find anything strapless. It's even worse if you are a 26 back. They simply don't make that size.
2dancersmum Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 (edited) With my youngest recently we searched all over the place for a multiway bra that would fit her. We found that she needed a larger size for the strapless/multiway bras than for her normal everyday ones. It was very much trial and error with trying them on. Primark came up very small and so did M&S My other DD used to just wear one of the dance bras from somewhere like dance direct under hers. Another option, used by some of the dancers at DDs studio, is to use one of the bras she normally wears, remove the straps and sew it into the leotard itself. Good luck Edited November 9, 2014 by 2dancersmum
rainbowmagic Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 I've ordered one from Tescos which is 32A so will see if fits when it arrives. It doesn't help that I work full time and won't actually have time to get to the shops before the weekend which is when she needs it for. Definitely not enough hours in the day
sarahw Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I agree that a flesh coloured body - the capezio ones come with flesh coloured and clear straps. My dd actually wore it without any straps last time as the tutu bodice held it in place.
rainbowmagic Posted November 9, 2014 Author Posted November 9, 2014 Thank you everyone. Maybe a body might be something to add to her Christmas list.
Its her Life Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 Depends how low the back of the leotard is though as even a strapless bra could show. If she doesn't actually need the bra for support, but only because it's see through, could you not sew a shelf lining into the leotard. I've done this before. Cut one out of a leotard which no longer worn (obviously in your case it would have to be a pale colour though) & sewn in to another.
spooky Posted November 9, 2014 Posted November 9, 2014 I have done as its her life suggests and sewn a shelf lining into a leotard but rather than use an old leotard I used the top part of a pair of tights - the waistband makes a good bottom edge to the shelf lining.
Huddsballetmum Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Primark have a nude multiway which has clear back and straps and is about £5 my DD is a 30b cup and the 32b fit fine. I always size up one back size with clear backed bras as they don't have as much give in them as normal ones. Primark are extremely good for bra's in general for teens, especially as they are still growing.
Picturesinthefirelight Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Really Huddsballet, I've always found Primark has a poor selection of sizes. Nothing above an A cup in a 28 & loads if unrealistic sizes like 34/36 A Maybe we have just been unlucky.
2dancersmum Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 I think you've been unlucky Pictures - my elder DD gets hers from Primark and has had no issues. It was the Primark nude multi way younger DD liked and they seemed to have every size except hers.
suzysue Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Try New Look. My dd has a nude multi way bra in 30A from there. It was a 2 pack with a black one for about £12. 1
pas de chat Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I need to get one too in a 28 A so off to the shops this Saturday! Can't believe the Christmas rush has started already!
rainbowmagic Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Well we have success. I ordered a multiway bra in a 32A from Tesco for the vast sum of £4 which arrived today. Whilst it's not a absolute perfect fit, my daughter is happy and comfortable wearing it.
