Sue Brett
Quick question for anyone who knows the EYB Swan Lake - are the 'Mariiinsky dancers' on pointe or not? Thanks!
Anna C
Hi Sue. Can't answer specifically about Swan Lake, but historically EYB have parts (e.g. the Mirlitons in Nutcracker) where the choreography can be changed from pointe to flat or vice versa, depending upon the age and standard of the dancers. So even if the Mariinsky Dancers have been en pointe in previous venues, EYB always have the option of changing it to a soft-shoe dance. Your best bet would be to ask Dominic. amber21
Quick question for anyone who knows the EYB Swan Lake - are the 'Mariiinsky dancers' on pointe or not? Thanks! Hi when we did swan lake at Newcastle they were on pointe. . . . I suppose it may depend of age and ability of dancers as spannerandpony also saidAx
happy days
my daughter was a little Mariinsky (from junior audition) and she was on pointe. At casting they were all made to try out in pointe shoes before they were cast the part

Sue Brett
Oooh lovely, looking forward to seeing DD in it and now we know she will have to try to do something over the summer to prepare for lots of pointe work (and we will probably need to be getting another pair of shoes). The long EYB rehearsals could be a shock after the summer break! Thanks everyone!
DancingDays
Yes, a friend's DD was a Mariinsky dancer in Nottingham last year and they were en pointe
Anna C
If it's a course of intensive rehearsal - as opposed to weekends with the week's break in between - EYB are brilliant at having odd pointe-shoe amnesty days where everyone rehearses in flatties to give those en pointe a rest.
